I played my first game last night. I have never played Terraforming Mars or any game of this type before. It was a bit confusing to fully understand what I was supposed to do while reading the rule book but I attempted my first game after reading it. I thought I was making a lot of mistakes at first but after watching this video, I actually did much better than I thought. Not bad for my first attempt at something this different. I couldn’t finish my game last night but I will play it again tonight. Basically, do what the phases tell you to do and manage your production. At the end of the day, it is actually pretty straight-forward. The biggest challenge is probably making sure you don’t miscount MC’s or miss a cards action/ability/production. Your video was very clear and it helped affirm the rules I studied last night. It took my 3 separate watches to finish the video but I did. Thanks!

Haha 😂 I do that with a ton of videos. But thanks for sticking with it. You are right, at the end of the day this is a pretty straightforward game, which I love that the complexity is in the strategy! I just took it on vacation with me and taught it to my wife. Took her a game but she got it pretty well. Thanks for watching and the kind words. Hope you continue to enjoy it!!

Thanks my friend. There have been a lot of changes and life interruptions going on. Not all bad! I have several videos filmed but no time to edit. Adulting sucks is my answer!! The good news is that I’ve been able to brainstorm and evaluate what worked during the first “season” and know where I want to focus going forward on the channel! Stay tuned though hope to be back with Season 2 shortly. Thanks for asking and thanks for the concern. Means a lot! Hope you are well my friend.

Thanks for the playthrough! Much like TfM I find the solo lacking a bit of tension. At the end of the game the best method is to get a high income and then dump it all to increase the environment requirements. I need to watch some playthroughs of multi-player to see how that compares to TfM, in feel. I love the shorter length, but not convinced yet that Ill get it. Now when I see it in a store sitting on a shelf calling my name, I might not be able to resist though lol.

Hahah seeing it in a store is what happens to me. I purposely didn’t back it. I do like it better multiplayer. You are exactly right about the credit strategy. Solo is a ton more ridged in pathways. But I feel (and it’s gut not statistical evidence) that getting credit production is tougher in this game than regular TM. I could see doing 3 turns of production the last round to grab credits but if I was playing on a harder difficulty I’m not sure I would have produced enough. It really comes down to (like regular TM) that card draw. In this version I feel like you can’t dig as easily as in TM because of your research card having to sit out the round after you play it. Idk. I will say it has more tension than regular TM to me but enough…?! Idk. I’m glad I picked it up. Will it be a top 10 game contender for me this year? 🤷‍♀️ a lot of steel competition. I dread making that list later on 🤣! Thanks as always! ✌️

Great video! I am still not 100% sold n this game, I really love the original game and even though the solo is not exciting, I still find it satisfying when I can so it (about half the time). I also found an AI system that helps and includes the awards and milestones. Thank you again for your content and I look forward to what’s next!

Hey man, no problem. Thanks for saying that kindness. My philosophy is to goo for what you love my friend. I hadn’t seen an Ai system. You have me piqued. I do love mixing in some expansions with the original. I can see this not replacing TM proper for many, and that is fantastic. No problem with that at all. What makes me really happy is that it is another entry that’s accessible to all sorts of players and in mass market Target for a reasonable price. I know TM was an entry point into the hobby and into solo for many. Glad to have another worthy candidate out in the wild! If you get a chance please link the Ai you like. Thanks always my friend. ✌️

I have played this solo 6 times (twice on each difficuty level), and only lost once. I use the same strategy each time, and it's 100% with low and middle difficulty, and so far has been 50/50 with the hardest. It's kinda depressing in solo mode. Like original TM, the solo experience doesn't cut the mustard, and is a somewhat different game from the multiplayer experience. Not as much as original TM solo is from original TM solo, but there's still a gulf in the experience.

      Thanks for watching and commenting.
Tbh I can’t disagree with you. It is a different experience than multiplayer and at its heart it’s a beat your own score which I don’t typically like….unless the puzzle is engaging. This won’t end up on a top 10 for me def. But I’ve pretty much relegated it to multiplayer and travel. I find when I’m rusty and rushing I am really just fighting against myself and the combos are still rewarding. I am not the type of person who loved TM OG solo. It’s good but not great so rarely gets played solo. But I know many who love that and this solo and it’s their cup ‘o tea if you will.
So yeah it comes down to taste I think with this one. I personally think it shines best in 2-3p. As for the gulf. Im actually coming around to games being different games solo vs multiplayer. As long as the solo is good on its own. But it depends on the game and how often I get it to a group time.
Thanks again for your thoughts. Love having these conversations and viewpoints. Best!

Thanks for the playthrough. It was nice to watch, even though you "cheated" and rose the heat for 3 in the first rounds action turn...😅

Oh wow. I missed that both times. You are spot on. I am not sure why my brain was thinking that cube was a 10 instead of a 5. That makes me feel better about shorting myself TRs later in the game. I’ll make a note. Thanks for watching, the kind words and keeping me in line! 😜😂

Super cool video! I'd definitely love seeing some more. As someone not owning this game neither the original TM, it's nice to have the little comparison between the two games at the end. One question though, is there something you think the original game does better? I see only enthusiasm about this game which makes me want to buy it over the original one so just want ti make sure I'm not missing anything :) cheers!

Thanks Benjamin. That’s a great question. I’ve had some people over on FB say they like the original more. Part of it is this doesn’t do enough different to warrant making a new purchase. They draw of TM proper at the moment is more stuff I think. There is a board tile placing element in the base but most people will agree the draw in both of these is the engine building combos-licious card play. There is just more variety in the big brother version especially with expansions that add new elements. Also different boards and side mechanisms with the expansions. But at the heart the base game of TM and of AE are the same imho. If I were advising a person interested in the games which one I would prob. Lean towards AE. Most of that has to do with the price and slightly (and I mean slight with both of these) easier teach and shorter play time. But that’s just my initial thoughts at them moment and it really is down to your gaming tastes. I’ll think more on that😄! Thanks my friend as always.

@@MeMyselfDice great thanks! I guess I'll investigate a bit more then but shorter playtime is actually good for me lol. Though the argument of having all the expansions available for the original game is quite nice. Thanks for taking the time to read the comments and answer them :)

@@oukeouke how did you decide? I studied a lot of reviews and found out that prelude expansion is a big boost for the original tm. Shortens the game and makes it even more interesting
