I play alot of Chili Peppers, so this didn't help me, but it would have years ago and I think it was a great straight forward lesson, just the way I like it.
I'm not a guitarist, I'm a bassist in an rhcp cover band, and my guitarist just needs to see this because you give some really good advice, and you're right. I would love to see you do a video about his solo's a lot of bending and strumming between 2 strings right? Its really cool, Thanks anyways :)
Those are called unison bends. Without the wah pedal, it's pretty common in stuff like heavy rock and punk. At any rate, it's a great technique to learn and fairly simple once you've got the hang of it.
Thanks for takin time to make these videos.. Just look over the haters. Lol!! Don't understand why some people have to put negative shit in here. Keep the videos comin!!! :)
Like viz is saying below, I'd like to learn that. I've been doing something similar to that technique for a year or so, but I don't think I'm getting it quite right, haha. Anyway, lovely lesson. Perfect for an intermediate Frusciante fanatic like me! Thanks mate :)
...and lets be creative, innovative. i understand its important to have your idols, those who you wish you could play like they did/do. but lets use this to create new sounds
I agree with @Sebrewer32 . I'm pretty sure frusciante prefers playing the simple shapes. also i've read he's more into minimalism and avant garde more recently. but for the blood sugar frusciante i think strumming was a good point, and soloing would be another one. but chord progressions you've played dont sound like rhcp at all. i dont think this is something special about him.
@vizcacha5 someone really should because i got the idea for it but im having a hard time nailing it. im messing around trying to get a nice wah sound with fast leads. help/advice would be great
@dekkuhr thankyou everyone for your replies. I'll try to post a video sometime for common frusciante progressions and hendrix type hammer-on/pull off tricks that he uses.
an easy tip is; take the lowest string out of bar chords. watch some live videos he's incredibly lazy in his chords. and also adopt a funky strumming pattern with muting in-between notes.
You don't know what your talking about half the time in this. You make it sound like John uses C-shaped barre chords a lot of the time. He hardly ever uses them! The only time I can think of is in the intro of Under The Bridge. I think you think they are C-shapes when they are actually E-shaped barre chords where he uses his thumb on the low E string. But I study him a lot, when he's playing live or on records and I don't know of anytime where he uses C-shapes

how to play like john frusciante: dont try and play like john frusciante
You're a good soul man. Learning to play guitar now. Thanks for making this video.
Best lesson I've seen on TH-cam.

I think the lesson isn't about the tone, but techniques, which are pretty well explained
Quick and dirty. Good for a starting point. Thx!
Thank you so much! Helps a lot!
You got skill! :)

Good stuff mate. Keep it up.

This is a very good lesson. Could you do an ASAP video for Omar Rodriguez Lopez?
nice one man
I like your playing man
the point isnt to play over chords and shapes that frusciante plays, but rather to play with his feel^^
D and C shaped bar chords are so hard.
nice video dude...
just use the intervals for whatever chord you want
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW TO PLAY LOOK ON

if john fruscinate saw this...............
Are the c shape bar chords a fifth or sixth string root

You got the feel for it; ... use your thumb on your bassnotes for much more frusci flexibilty and buy a marshall!
It takes years to play his style... But I get what you are doing...
just look for a dani california solo lesson thats how i learned how to do it
Oh i thought he would sell his soul to the devil to be that good.
You called an A shape bar chord a d shape but nice lesson homie
I don't really see how this resembles John Frusciante's style
As someone who's listened to probably thousands of hours of RHCP, it does. I heard many different chilis songs in what he was playing.
soon i will become the female john frusciante. SOON
1:15
Just kinda....wingin it, arent ya?? How bout some pinky pull offs?

you're not even close
This is pop, not Frusciante's playing
That's just funk... No ?
I feel its a starting point towards the style of John Frusciante. Doesnt sound just like him. John can do that lol. good vid though
YOU ARE AWESOME. :D But get a better guitar and some pedals :P

Sebastien Brewer looks like you need to do some more research, mate..
mm its not like john frusciante its similar but its someting missing on there, you need to put more funk style and blues its like not jf style!
dont think this sounds frusciante like at all tbh
You seem like one of those dudes who knows heaps of theory but aren't good at practical.
