    Very nice game with such an important massage. Because we don't live in the beautiful world anymore.
    Sea is polluted. Drinkable water is being used. Global warming. Ocean currents are slowing down. Energy sustainability is questionable. In the end even space is polluted.
    Not saying to be afraid but to encourage in any way young people with ideas and passion for better world. And this game is part of it 😁

    The game looks great! Quick idea I had about a game mechanic to make gameplay interesting: balancing the needs of the population vs the planet. So if it gets overpopulated, they start going to war or plague breaks out for example, which can either help the planet or damage it significantly (for e.g. Black death and Genghis khan's massacres cooled the planet and helped the environment). That would make the game a constant challenge as you'd be balancing the effects of depopulation (which are often only visible in retro spect) vs the effects on the planet (which are more predictable)

  • @deepsolar169

    Amazing Art, love the way you design, and as usual LOVE watching you talk about Unity.
    But one thing you said, that is indeed your weakness is the game ideas.
    I think you might jump ahead so much by getting in hard into random map creation whether it's 2D or 3D (I think 2D suits you best).
    Think about games people can spend hours on.. first to come in mind is Minecraft, a total masterpiece of random endless map creation, and exploration.
    Of course when working with "close to endless" maps you'll have to master game IO and the art of loading / unloading from memory.
    Would KILLLL to see your art inside a 2D exploration game.

  • @Jaryt
    @Jaryt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is really awesome! Just one small suggestion which may save you some time in the future. You should use Gradient instead of having an array of 12 different colors. With gradient you can set a few base colors and then do gradient.Evaluate(0 -> 1f); and return the color at that point in the gradient. You may already know about it, but in case you haven't seen it before, there you go :D Another one that's really awesome like that for adjusting different values is AnimationCurve. Gotta love the ability to edit values on the fly like that.

    I feel terrible because I attempted to do this Ludum dare and completely failed.
    My idea was to have a character in a household environment who would randomly think of a household task like doing the washing which would appear on screen.
    After some time these tasks would appear faster would eventually fill up the screen if the user was not fast enough. I spent 20 hours on this, working on it so hard until I came upon a terrible bug that would have meant I would need to rewrite my 150+ lines of code.
    Due to this occurring about 5 hours before the deadline I couldn’t submit my game :( and therefore had to give up after putting in so much time!

    • @SunnyApples
      @SunnyApples 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I feel so bad.
      But the only way to become great at game development is to keep doing what you did, making games and learning from them.
      People who never go through experiences like you did, will also never learn to develop games.

    • @pebblez5753
      @pebblez5753 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunny Apples yea - I’m happy I went through the experience of this as it allowed me to learn a lot of new things.
      I’m still fairly new to programming in unity but I was mainly aiming to have something that I would be able to put on my portfolio for my university application.
      It’s just a pain when you can’t finish something after spending so long on it. Yet as annoying and upsetting it was for me, I wouldn’t reverse it as it taught me a far amount into the difficulty of game creation and gave me an view into what I wish to do in the future. I’m planning to do the next ludum dare though and give it another go with a different idea :D

    Cool game and idea! Really love the concept and aesthetic of it! The only thing is that there is no incentive to add the "better" buildings except if you want the game to end faster. Maybe could have added a resources bar that progressively lowers if the player doesn't add the more powerful buildings to raise it. more people = more resources = more powerful buildings. Just a idea. Great job anyways!
