Peter Thank you for investing your time to help us get better. As a new Olympus user this year by far my favorite video was Olympus E-M1 MKII Firmware 3.0 - My NEW Settings!
This video help my wife an I set up our cameras to work for us. I appreciate the time you spent in that video explaining how and why you set up the camera. This allowed us to understand the settings and menus to get out settings right for us.As an aside I appreciate that you are offering the 1 hour mentoring/critiquing at a very fair price.
I do not want you to "improve" your videos. To me, they come off as genuine and that you care about us the viewers. I like the simplicity of your videos, especially with in your office and truly appreciate the effort you put in to help us become better photographers.
Thanks for all your help and may you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am looking forward to next years content.

Thank you Peter for all the good video’s. It was Rob Trek that mentioned you in one of his vlogs and I’m happy he did. As an Olympus shooter you two are my favorite TH-camrs. You do a very good job, even if the English is sometimes hard for you. Don’t worry about that, everybody understands you and most of your viewers will probably have another mother tongue and would not speak better than you. Although you do perfect reviews I miss real work. Going out for a job or an idea and tell the viewers what you take for gear, how you plan to use it, how you do use it on the job and what the results are. like the video when you came to my country (Belgium), what gear do you take, why do you choose it and how do you implement it. Keep up the good work and enjoy the Holidays!

Enjoyed 7 Great Ideas. I ordered a third Peak Design Cuff yesterday so I have one for each of my Cameras. I purchased the first one over 12 months ago and a couple of months later I received a package from Peak it contained 6 anchors with a note explaining they were not satisfied with the quality of the anchors and decided to replace for all the registered users. A good reason to register.
    Thank you Peter, Season Greetings.

I really enjoy your videos. What I would like to see more of in 2020 is PHOTO WALKS. I'm not talking about a photographer showing me his exotic trip to the North Pole or anything, I'm talking about walks in your home town or neighborhood. Mike Browne, Robin Wong, and Rob Trek all do these types of photo walks and I really enjoy them as they INSPIRE, MOTIVATE and EDUCATE me on photography. Mike Browne really excels at regional photo walks as he uses a picture in picture format to show you what he is thinking while composing a shot and then shows you the results. An added bonus is I get to see parts of the world I don't ever get to see here in the USA. Anyway, Merry Christmas and have a super 2020 Peter! Thanks for all you do and post.

Merry Christmas and thank you for all the wonderful videos. I look forward to many more in the years to come.. I am new at this digital hobby and I find your videos to be the ones I watch and rewatch most often. Now to the contest. You did a video on best settings on the 10mkiii, but never really should how to make the settings. You even commented how you were going fast. I currently have (no thanks to you) the 10MKii, MKiii and the 5 MKii which will be delivered next week. That gets me to what might be my favorite video. Olympus 14-150mm f/4.0-5.6 II Review - The BEST Travel Lens for m4/3? This is the reason for getting the 5 MKii and found a great deal, I believe, for $500 that came with that lens as it's kit lens.. That video really makes me want to expand into more videos and night photography.. Living in Oregon I wanted the weather sealing, but was not ready to spend the money on the 1 MKii or 5 Mkiii. Also this means I am not investing on the pro series lenses, but I believe I have a nice variety in the Ed series. What would i like to see next year.. Night photography videos.. Milky Way, the moon and night time landscape.. But what ever you do next year will looked forward to .. Again have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Great minds think alike!!! I have the Aputure light -- same model as you do, and love it. I have one of the gorilla tripods like yours, but now I am jealous because mine does not have arms! And I have a bunch of those same Altura lens pouches -- I got those as I was adding lenses to my G85 -- but quickly gave up after a dozen lenses (mostly vintage) grew into over 100!!! That would be a lot of pouches! I use these cloth, over-the-door shoe hanging racks to hold my lenses normally -- lets them breath and not get moisture buildup, and then when I go out to do some photography or video I just grab the lenses that I need and use the Altura pouches for those lenses.

Peter -- please take a break! Not because I don't truly enjoy watching your videos -- but take time out for yourself, for your family and your own personal pursuits! Work out a video schedule that is comfortable for you (just don't stop entirely!) -- we can handle it! I enjoy your videos as you have made them -- they are more personal and personable than many on TH-cam. I enjoy your honesty and your enthusiasm -- that doesn't require perfection in everything that you do in the video! I appreciate your attitude that these are hints, tips, techniques and items of gear that have worked well (or maybe not) for you -- and might work well for us, your viewers. You are not acting like you are the ultimate authority on photography or Olympus gear -- that is a great way to present the information in your videos. So I wouldn't have you "fix" anything in how you do your videos. I would enjoy seeing -- a) more outdoor (yes, even in the cold, snowy Finland winter) videos, b) more travel videos, c) more collaborative videos (with other photographers, artists, videographers -- in addition to Matti of course!), d) some "post-processing" videos -- what is your workflow like when you get your images into your computer, e) some videos on printing photos -- not just enlargements for the wall or desk, but photo books, gifts, etc.. I hope that all of that is not too much to ask!!! Thank you again for all that you do and I pray that you and your family and friends have a wonderful and joyful Christmas and a happy New Years!!!

    Hey Peter!
Favorite video: Travel Photography Tips - 6 Tips (Hard to choose - but this one had a direct positive impact on a trip this year!)
How to improve: More video from in the field. Reasons: (1) Love watching you work a scene. Very interesting to watch your workflow in the field. (2) Very much appreciate your explanations of how you approach a given challenge. The Live ND / ND filter on the M1x video is an excellent example. (3) I live in the US and work for a Finnish company (KONE) but have not been to Helsinki. Nice to see the area where my colleagues live, work and play!
    Finally -
    - Thank you for a wonderful year of great coaching, tutoring and encouragement.
    - Thank you for a great year-end shopping list. ;-) I can confirm the usefulness of the Joby. I took one hiking this year and quite literally dozens of different things became stable camera platforms!

Thank you for all your videos this year. My favorite video was the Oly 12-40 vs Lumix 12-60.
I like your tips and shooting advice videos, you have a great perspective and you focus on photography, not gear.
For 2020, I would love to see more specific tutorial type videos. More on composition, because I think many of us hobbyists struggle there. Then tips on specific shoots-landscapes, sports, street would be my top. Like where you actually go to a local soccer game or something and take shots, explain your settings and show the photos. And show both the good and the bad! That helps us all learn.
    Thanks again!

Happy Holidays Peter, Like your reviews when you a new Olympus camera comes out Pro and Cons. I like to see some video on using different type filters in front of the lenses and if there can be any issues using them on auto focus and exposer, what I have in mine since I have some of Cokin system filters that I use with my film cameras but have yet to try on my Olympus Digital. Some of the ones I am curious about is the soft focus, star, multi image, white clear fade center spot, graded netural density, sepia. I know there are art filters built in the OM-D cameras but this would take it upto the next level. The one video of yours 2019 that was a distraction for me was when you were outside and cars were going by in the background and the sound quality was not that great, can't remember what the video subject matter was about.

I am retired and photography is a hobby for me, and not a source of income. If I get close to anything that could bring in income, it would be event photography. (But it doesn't!) Also travel photography. And I am in the USA.
I liked the videos you did with Matti.
I would like to see more on flash, although I will probably use flash on the camera or hand hold it off the camera. (I don't use flash very much.) Olympus flash but mainly cheaper, non-olympus flash.
Something about other lenses for Olympus. I'm thinking of 3rd party like Sigma, Tamron etc. (Don't think there are many.) You and Matti did fine with a Panasonic comparison!
You show us some wonderful photos. I might like more on what you are trying to do in the photo -- along composition lines. (eg I shot from a low angle to emphasize the lines leading to...; I placed the subject at this part of the photo to emphasize..., etc.) I'm only thinking of a sentence or two. Not paragraphs.
Not too keen on the TH-cam videos that go on of 90minutes or so, but you don't do that very often. Prefer 10-20 minutes.
While I like your twice a week videos, I would be fine with once a week -- if things in January are still a bit hectic for you. Get back to twice a week in February. Just a thought!
Comment on the LaCie drives. I have one, and it is fine. But when I'm traveling I would prefer something smaller. I use an SSD drive which is smaller, as well as thumb/flash drives. I don't think about reformatting the camera cards until I get back home, where I can put the photos on different backup media that is usually bigger.
I had some other ideas, but they seem to have slipped my mind. Guess it goes with retirement!
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I wonder if those lights would be okay for portraits in when you don’t have a flash?

    • @skamradt67
      @skamradt67 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Maybe as a fill light to lift some shadows. Otherwise, use it off camera and try to get it close to the subject. It will be a little on the hard side since its so small. Lights suffer from the inverse square law where the further the light is away from the subject, the less impact it will have, and these little lights just don't have the power to go that far. These little lights are great for product photography as you can see what your shot will be, unlike flash. Also, flash will freeze motion, these little lights will not, so breaking one out when the subject is moving may be subject to some blur. Keep in mind that just because your camera with flash is limited to 1/250th doesn't mean that 1/250th is your flash exposure speed, its actually much faster than that.

Merry christmas to you and your family!
I can assure you, the best video is your video about white balance. Why? Because this is the last video I watched,
Much of this was not new for me, I know the scientific background, but you explained, how to apply this in practice for photography, how to deal with mixed light sources and so on, and even demonstrated this. At christmas, the we have many mixed and hopefully beautyful lightsources, so this is currently the best for me.
Of course if I watch another of your videos, then this is the best!
I am not native english spoken and sometime have problems to understand native speakers and must turn on the captions. So I can assure you, your english is very understandable, there are absolutely no problems to understand every word without reading the captions, and your style to explain stuff is clear.
So just keep on this direction, and as a professional dont forget about fun and recreation and you must have this also for yourself, to transfer this to others.

Merry Christmas Peter! Have a great holiday!
Things I'd like to see on your channel, mmm, everyone really likes your composition video and I think that could be expanded on by explaining how different aspect ratios can change the look/feel of your images. For example 16:9 and 3:2 can be great for wider landscapes but 3:2 vertically can be a bit harder to fill than say 4:3 for some subjects. Perhaps shooting the same scene in different aspect ratios and explaining why they work or don't for certain subjects.
I also like photowalks. I live in New Zealand so Finland is an unknown and exciting place to me. Maybe you could interview other photographers or collaborate with them in some way? Maybe you could do photo meetups with beginner photographers local to you and film those?
Things to improve, I've looked back over your previous years of videos and your video work is so much better now. Your face is well lit and I'm not sure what you could improve. Maybe slow down a little and let some of your images remain onscreen a little longer when you're explaining something?
What do I love, I like some gear reviews for new cameras and lenses so I have something to help me choose what I want to buy but I'm not really that into the gear. I hate the gear war thing going on and the constant sniping at m43 users everywhere. I don't think that can be stopped by tit for tat videos extolling the virtues of m43 after another youtuber has sniped at m43. I think the best way to move forward is to use the gear and enjoy using it. Post lots of videos using the gear but concentrating more on how you compose your images and how you make use of the light than gear centric posts. Those are the sorts of videos I love, videos about photography not videos about brands. I think you'll bring in even more subscribers that way. People that don't necessarily shoot m43.
Your travel photography tips video is my favorite :)

For 2020 I think you should focus on how Olympus improves your photography. In reviews highlight things that are specifically helpful, in more generalized videos hone in on how Olympus helps you with those concepts. I think these things would be huge boons for photographers in general. I landed in the Olympus camp based on price of the the kit I originally bought, but I’ve fallen in love with photography as an art form since. I look forward to your growth in 2020 and hope you have a great new year.

    Greetings from South Africa
Liebe Peter I am what is known to be a Springbok German... "German ancestry stuck in Africa!"
I don't really belong on this channel as I make videos, I'm used to not belonging...
I joined this channel because I needed advice on lenses for the bmcc 4k system, I enjoyed the content so much that I decided to stick around.
Never thought I could learn so much from a photographer.
In your videos you do a "jump cut" a lot... Maybe a second camera closer or farther could assist the, even the same angle is fine... It will help with retakes.
The most fun video was the comparison with the Apple I phone, the one I learned the most from was the M Zuiko 12-100 lens revue I bought this for my BMCC 4K.
I have seen that video many times before I bought. I am buying the OM-D E-M5 MK III as soon as it is commercially available. I got rid of all the Sony & Canon gear thanks to you.
2020 is gonna be a great year. So seasons greetings to you and the family and looking forward to new content in the new year.
Have a good rest and visit Africa sometime for a great adventure.
    All the best H.

    Hi Peter
    Hohoho Merry Xmas!
I liked the vlog that you did about the history of Olympus cameras as well as the one on 22/09/19.
I recommend that you take a subject and investigate it using Olympus Gear both contemporary as well as legacy; you might learn things about Olympus that you never knew.
My suggestion for the first one is Macro Photography of which Olympus established a lead in during the 35mm era and it has yet to be surpassed.
My first real camera was an OM1 I bought when I came to London in ’87. I have always and only used Olympus equipment.
Who knows, you may encourage folk who may not be as affluent as your normal demographic...

One thing to offer to photographers is moments. Allow them to shoot new images on different situation that they are used to.
Invite them to your place to see another landscape or city, share some time, etc...
Quality time is inexpensive (except for overpriced coffee or beer moments) but also quite rare.

Hi, thanks for videos. Great work.
I would like to see more videos about shooting videos wiht olympus. Simple setup for making videos for youtube and so on.
Also I would like to see videos about high res. mode and live composition.
I think you have a lot of good info in your videos. For hobbyphotographer sometimes too much. Maybe sometimes "simple, quick tip video" for example video settings. Video where you tell "Do it like this and you get started easy" could be great, then more detailed info in other video.
    Merry Chrismas!

First of all Peter I would like to thank you for your content this year, it does appear as though you need a break, as we all do, so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours.
There are a few aspects of your channel that stand out. Your honesty and integrity together with your personality really engage the viewer. Do not change that.
I guess my only suggestion is to show the Olympus in action and the results more often. Perhaps even a video about how you post process an image. It seems that the m43 system is under constant attack from the full frame brigade and showing a professional using this system to get professional results can only help. This may result in less reguler content as I assume there is a juggling act between number of videos and remuneration.
For me the favourite video was one where I knew I could trust your opinion and that was "10 Things Olympus Should Do". There is a lot of content on TH-cam regarding photography and you would change systems and software daily if you believed it all. I guess what I like to see is the gear I have being used to produce good quality images and to also alert me to what the negatives are and the likelihood of them being addressed by the manufacturer.
All the best for the channel in the coming year and I sincerely hope that all your endeavours bear fruit.

Peter, Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the best in 2020. I have a question about your Gorillapod. How much weight can that handle. Always thought those were an interesting design but wondered if it would be stable enough. Have you used the GorillaPod for the Olympus high res mode and does it provide sufficient stability?
As for suggestions in 2020. Like to see photo walk type videos where you describe your creative process and make the shot.

It can hold about 3kg (6.6 lb). I have not tried with highres shot, but if mounted to a hand rail or a pole then vibration it is not a problem. Merry Christmas.

Best video? Perhaps the one about the fake rumors about the future of Olympus.
An advice? Maybe a shooting session that you would comment on, like the one about composition.
BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT: STAY WITH US AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas love and good luck for your New Year Videos. Always worth remembering the products of Photography when thinking of gifts. Why not help a young struggling Photographer and buy a print or a calendar then you can enjoy that all year. Print up some of your own images as gifts for friends. Also, instead of just buying instruction books why not buy an Art book by one of the masters like Eliot Erwit, Cartier-Bresson, Bailley or Martin Parr; instead of just producing dull rule of third rubbish, have a look at some iconic images that will extend your vision and show you fresh ideas to energise your work. Above all have fun in 2020 ;-)

My only critique is that when you do your vlogs do them using some kind cheat sheet or something that would help you remember the key words you are struggling to remember. My advise is that review other cameras I love Nikon but any other brand would be great too. And happy Xmas

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, the list of some words is a good idea. Lets see what I can do about the other camera brands. Those are not so easy to get hold of.

For Christmas I am looking forward to a nice crispy roast duck with delicious dumplings, red cabbage as a side dish and a cold cola. How could your videos get better? Get a cat to support your work. Or no, better take two of them. One black and one red. The fur faces will definitely be helpful. Thanks for your interesting videos. Have a Merry Christmas and a good start in 2020. 🎍🎍🎍

I’m a bit late with my comment. First of all, I wish you a very happy new year. Sure, after all those excellent videos last year you deserve a break. Your Olympus gear videos have been very useful but I would like to see a shift more towards skills. Your photos focus very often on street photography (one reason why I love your videos) but obviously there is more out there (no pun intended). - Could you cover a wider variety of photography genres and skills? Maybe you could call in with another photographer who has such expertise? - I look forward to your new videos in 2020.

Thank you. Good points. Actually my goal is excatly that. I am trying to make more content about photography and skills.
I have already made arrangements to travel to Lappland in Finland and will do some bird photography with Jari Peltomäki. He is an Olympus Visionary and a bird photographer.

I need a 40-150 2.8 lens. I’m hoping Santa manages to get it down the chimney without breaking the lens hood. 😂
I see Theoria Apophasis is claiming Olympus is closing in 8 months. Where does he get his sources. Hearsay, fake news and click bait is all this is.
My favourite videos were OM-D setting tips. Would love to see more videos on using flash. It’s a vast subject so plenty if content to be had in lots of aspects of Photography. Have a great Christmas.

Hello Peter, I have ac question about developing RAW files. When I shoot the image, the RAW-file has about 15 MB. After processing the picture, the file only has around 1/3 of it. Could you please tell me why after developing the file of aroud 15 MB, it then only has around 5 MB. What am I doing wrong. I have an OLY OMD 10 Mark 2. Thanks.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are not doing anything wrong. Most likely you export them as jpgs and it is compressed and it is smaller in size (in MB).
