    I just felt the urge to comment on this video because when you said "10 degrees in 7 hours, if you don't hear from me maybe I didn't survive" it made me so sad. I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now and you're naturally positive and joyful even in your circumstances. I want to send all the best positive vibes you're way and I will pray for you. ❤

    Thank you for sharing these videos. It's hard to explain, but even though you're on the other side of the planet, that little farmhouse you're fixing up looks like it could be right here in western Pennsylvania. The only real difference is we don't have missiles hitting our cities every night for two years.

    You are fighting quite a brave fight.
    About heating: it is a pretty tiny oven, are you sure the fire gets a bit of air/oxygen? Chimney clear? To have fire, you need material, that can burn, oxygen and a certain temperature. If one of them is missing, your fire won't last long (the fire-"triangle" it is called here). For starting up your fire, try rolling old newspapers tightly together in a "roll" and press them into an opened milkcarton, a cheap way to make a "briquette" for starting a fire. The thin plastic layer in them may not be healthy in the very long run, but it won't harm you if it is only for a winter season or two. Combine your sleeping bag with one of those thin tinfoil rescue blankets, you can use for first aid purposes. They cost little and with a bit of luck, they can last some time.
    If you begin to tamper with that roof, be careful if it contains asbestos fibres. It looks like such a roof.
    I think, part of the challenge could be, that you have an "individual" mindset. The Inuit population in the Arctic saw themselves as part of a group, especially in the years before "we" (as a Dane, we "have" Greenland - was up there myself years ago and read a bit about the indigenous population) colonized them. Being on your own in the old days would often mean certain death. Old Inuit stone and peatbog huts normally had a single, long chamber (with a narrow entrance leading into it), where everyone slept on the same "shelf" at the end of the chamber. Sharing the bodyheat and the light, which could come from burning whaleblubber. Use their experiences and survival skills in a modern, adapted European "version".
    Imagine you could find e.g. 5-6 others, who are in the same situation as you. Share your villagehome, pool money for some quality firewood and food, try to live together. Sleep in the same room. Help eachother. Play boardgames, talk, do something together. Part of the "cold" could be due to being alone, on your own, togetherness with the right people is good for the mental wellbeing of all. In unusual times, you can live an unusual life - would you like to sit in a liferaft alone?
    Easiest would be to go abroad to e.g. Poland or Germany, but if it is against your principles to leave Ukraine, you have to adapt to conditions in your village (or "everyday home"). Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰🇺🇦

    • @ThinkUkraine
      @ThinkUkraine  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for this advice.♥️ It was very interesting to read about the Inuit. Honestly, I can’t imagine myself sharing a house with anyone. It was one of the reasons why I left Germany - I didn’t have My house, Mine was waiting for me in Ukraine.
      Thank you so much.🫶
      Greetings to Denmark!❤️❤️❤️

    • @aarhusnord
      @aarhusnord 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ThinkUkraine Learn from the inuit, if you have trouble overcoming the cold. Authors such as Knud Rasmussen, Peter Freuchen or Franz Boas, could be of interest, if I remember the names correctly.
      An individual, who for some reason - maybe a personal fight with another groupmember or because he felt insulted or because he wanted to be alone - got expelled from his settlement/group sometimes became a "qivittoq" (in Danish : "fjeldgænger" - one, who wanders in the mountains). A kind of loner, a "living dead", who might be able to survive out there, away from the others. Which is why he was often feared - most often he would be dead, but he could also return one day for revenge. Nobody would know. So is there a bit of female "qivittoq" in you?

    • @ThinkUkraine
      @ThinkUkraine  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @aarhusnord sometimes I call it “my sociophobia”) when I’m tired of people and talking all the time at the university

    • @aarhusnord
      @aarhusnord 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ThinkUkraine Being "sociophopic" is not necessarily what brings you through the winter. Some are able to live on their own, others are not. I would find at least one other person, who shares the same personality, male or female, whatever suits you. If you are both happy about keeping quiet most of the time, you can still benefit from company.

    Maybe a free standing wood owen of metal would bring up the temperatur inside the house more quickly, and be more effcient, than the big owen of stone. Maybe you could discuss some different opporturnities regarding heating with some who have some knowledge about it. Someone can have a owen they not use, that is not too expenice.

    I first recommend using split wood and splinter kindling in the wood burning heater. It starts faster than whole logs. The roofing trouble is fixable, but could use some temporary patch work. Maybe corrugated aluminum would be good until a permanent fix in the warmer months. Bless you dear because better days are coming 💙💛🌻

    Probably, this roof is not insulated. Or it does not have proper insulation. So the effect of heat from the inside and cold from the outside may cause cracks.
    Take a picture of the roof and show it to one of the villagers. They have experience and know whether it is possible to live under the roof until spring...

    Привіт Вита 😊 Thanks for going through all this war madness with a smile on your face ❤ Guess you survived the village frost, managed to upload new content...
    Seems your ёлка has much better chances to survive in your yard than the Kyiv apartment; although you will probably have to re-plant it again way further than the vegetable garden and the shack. Maybe next spring. Saw that you got more firewood, but you have to get even more, warming up this house needs the fireplace to be burning constantly for a day at least.

    Pryvit Vita,
    Your spirit shines brightly but it is tough time of year for sure, and challenging in Kyiv and also at village house in different way.
    When starting a fire the bunched up paper is at bottom and you put kindling, or smaller dried branches, on top. Once that is burning you put larger branches on top. Then smaller pieces of wood. Finally larger pieces of wood. Having paper burning on top of larger wood will rarely make a good fire. You won't get heat from paper only.
    Once you do this, you will see how good the fire is for heating.

    Brigitte L Jones. Wishing you, your family and pets the best possible and a very safe Christmas season. I am so impressed by your strength, physically, psychologically and spiritually. You show the realistic suffering brought about by difficulties in conditions, the extreme cold, bomb shelter needing further repairs and a Christmas tree that expired quickly, yet still maintain some sense of humour. On the bright side you are learning a lot from your initial practical problems that will be useful when things get better in the future. Whatever obstacles this war brings, Ukrainians like you who endure and love Ukraine will again thrive, as its the people and attitude that give the country its real character and strength for the future.(I donated 2cups of coffee for Xmas as pets are costly.Wish I could do more, but not that wealthy.)

Just some practical tips, maybe use waterproof gloves, wear a warm hat always when outdoors, wear long thermal underwear or pantyhose under your jeans - even at night- keeps you much warmer. I learnt this.I have endured sometimes moments like this, admittedly for shorter times, power cuts, temps like yours and rented an old house without your good temper or patience even while ex husband calmly dealt with what could be fixed and when.We started off being poorer having our first child unprepared, catching up financially later on.

    No. Life isn't fair at all but not for anyone. I really hear what you say about a cold and lonely winter. Mine has been like that but watching your videos adds a lot of joy to my day. It's great to see that you live what is painted on the door, there--Never Give Up! The dog is not Russian, though. I am pretty sure it just wants some love and attention, like the rest of us.

      There is a grill in the oven where you place the wood to burn. The grill surface needs to be free from all debris (blockage). So air can pass through the grill towards the wood so it will burn properly.
      I hope that was clean. Underneath the grill, there is another compartment with a door too. In there the ashes will accumulate and need to be free for air passage

    Hi Vita, I hope your tree will survive the harsh winter. I think attending to the roof is very important as there will be more snow in the coming weeks and the load on the roof and the wall under it will get more stressed. I think I saw a church in your village, how about going to the church and ask if they know someone who can help with roof? Usually, the churches know a lot more people and if no one is there, leave a message with your number so they can call back. Also, if you have a local hardware / building supplies store around, usually they know a lot of companies and people. If the store's information desk is not helpful, just go to the store aisle where they have bricks, roofing material and ask for help, once the help arrives asks him or her if they know someone who can work on a roof. In the mean type, just get some help to put a plastic tarp over the roof so the water and ice does less damage, you have to tie down the tarp with ropes so the wind does not take your tarp away. Also, since you are a war widow, does the military have any resources for helping?
    I am really sorry you are going through this but, believe me better days may be ahead, as they say, if life throws you a lemon, make a lemonade! Easier said than done. I like your positive attitude because usually that is 50% of progress 😊 Slava Ukraini

    Vita The house looks great. I know the feeling....living in upstate New York, we lost power for 2 months on side of mountain due to Hurricane Sandy. We were the last to get power back on....two months of temperature with high's around 10-20 degrees in day, and below zero at night. Wind chills were -15 - I had to use a kerosene heater in the house and gas stove for heat. Then the last week of the power outage we got hit by a blizzard LOL - Im up at 4am going to work in 25 inches of snow. I had to park my truck a half mile down the mountain cause of ice and snow and road too steep. The only thing different I did not have loser Russians shooting missiles at me.
    There has to be something up with the stove does it have a blower or fan on it? . Is wood dry enough?

      @nole8923 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ThinkUkraine That’s GREAT news. I thought that was a possibility. In the summer I would recommend installing a gas water heater. Also look into installing a gas fireplace or even a gas furnace to heat the house.
      As for your gas stove, it’s likely the problem is either the gas starter or pilot light element needs to be replaced. If you turn on the gas to your stove and can hear or smell gas then it’s likely that’s all it is. The gas starter or the pilot light element which looks like the tip of a sparkler. A thin cylindrical rod. Fairly easy to replace.

There’s some guys like me who watch your videos who might help you troubleshoot it. Better yet do a livestream so we can guide you through troubleshooting it. It could be that the gas line to your gas stove is blocked, removed, or turned off somewhere. There is a good chance the problem can be fixed. Just let us know when you do a live stream.

    ... and still:
    You made hope - and deserve to get made hope in return.
    Air raid alarm + "Kyiv the capital of freedom" could actually get iconic.
    A ceremony, as a way to overcome that trauma by this carved-in sound and it's circumstances.
    Imagine soon celebrations of freedom get started with air raid alarms and then followed by roaring parties.
    What an arrogation to think on your behalf of such.
    No one else could come up with such a beautiful and powerful patriotic resilient Christmas tree planting ceremony.
    But you wouldn't be you were this not much more,
    part of your incredible impressive messages.
    It just must be a reference to that biblical little apple tree ...
    ...
    ...
    🥲🥲🥲
    Hmmm...
    Life just cannot any longer be unfair.
    Impossible.
    You'll guide a way out!
    We just have to support it.
    Your report from a year ago you with your team being the only ones on the wet sterile empty streets of Dortmund, locked out from Christmas refuge in any living room, left one with tears, not at least for the kids - and with a very distressing feeling whether it could be nasty comments of politicians lately that let you choose an even colder shelter from terror.
    One of the many hopes in all that:
    Babushka lady had no camera phone to record her story.
    Now it's lost.
    With her.
    Your's is out - contributing to get life finally fair.
    Hopefully.
    Please take care!
    For you, freedom and that tree in freedom.
    Again...
    ... they just messed with the wrong ones.

    Not at all!
