I live in Bozeman and this is very helpful to me as a beginner fly fisher in one of the best trout fisheries on earth!!! Thanks Dan, love your videos, keep it up!
Great video Dan. Always appreciate your content. Love to see you stomping around in the canyon. I haven't fished it this year but I will be this weekend
Good trick with nymphs and water loading, let the nymph rig go tight at the end of a drift and simply lob it back upstream using the water tension. Lob casting is what I call it. I've been fly fishing over 40 years, and I still use this technique a lot - not just for beginners.
Hey, thank you for your video, I really appreciate your tips! But don't you think you'll scare away fish with it if you let the string splash on the water again and again? Greetings from Bavaria
You are most welcome! In a lake that would be possible to scare the fish away...that's why I will water load right up to the point of my final cast then cast to my intended spot once I have enough line out. With river fishing, you are always casting above the fish and are letting the set-up drift down to the fish. Hope that helps!

Thanks Will - jealous! Bozeman is an amazing place to live!

Now I understand, thank you! I test it immediately on my next trip!! Thank you for answering me almost every time, you are the best!
Great tip, FFD. Now show them how to roll cast nymphs as a great way to present without a mess? 🙃
Good idea!
I quit double nymph and anything using split shot, I got tired of hooking myself.
