At his age, so many other of the more, highly recognized singers - more financially successful, had ruined their voices - smoking, or drinking, drugging - whatever. Seemed as if this was WIlly's way of saying. "Man, I do what I want - still. And I still got it. Voice never missing a beat or losing timbre - " I walked away thinking, he'd already started coming to grips, knowing he wouldn't get the breaks to make it like them - financially, but he would still be able to give his listeners the best voice out there. Willy had an exceptional voice, much better than many huge stars actually, very high range, especially for someone with a naturally deep voice like his and great timbre, he would have been even better if he had stopped, I can hear the hoarseness at the beginning of this tune. Willy could have done anything he wanted with that voice.
He is one of the all time greats. I wish I'd had the chance to hear him sing for real. So many thanks to him for all the pleasure his songs and wonderful, wonderful voice give me and so many others.
Where might Mink Deville and Willy have ended up without the drug problems? Truly a great American talent that never quite reached the promised land, but should have. Saw them in '78 with Rockpile and Elvis Costello. Willy stole the show.

I have read where others have say that my Celtic cousin Willy was one of the most underrated talents of the last 50 years of popular music, I can not disagree more with those fine people, they are completely wrong. So, I was listening to The Rolling Stones, whom I venerate. And I found "You Better Move On". Not a song I recalled. "Huh," thinks I, "This sounds like Willy DeVille." And sure enough: You Tube shows me this. I love them both. But WILLY omg.
So grateful i saw him in concert here in Milan Italy! I saw him 3 times...the first one he was alone under heavy rain in front an audience of 20 people...but he was great! A real gitanos in the night...i will never forget his voice, i will never forget him....i miss you Willy❤
