500 yards a long way running away from enemy fire how long must it seem going towards enemy fire those Boers could shoot as well john was a very brave man deserving of that VC thanks again sally antiques all the best
John Danaher/Danagher, is my grandfather. I am the youngest grandchild, b in 1947. My father, Hector George Danaher, was so proud of his father, as were his 7 other surviving sons, all but one of whom served in WW1. My Uncle Patrick, John’s second son, was killed in Gallipoli in 1915. My 7 older sisters and brothers and I, grew up listening to my father speak with much love, pride, and sadness of his father and mother, and and the brothers who died before him. I have pictures, but don’t know if I can post them here. I also have a letter written by Grandpa, to my father in 1917.
Thank you for sharing this with us Cecilia. We feel very humbled to have shared these heroic stories with our audience. If you would like to share these images with our followers we would be more than happy to on our Facebook page? Please email us on: contact@sallyantiques.co.uk
