Malaysia's Massive River Prawn Buffet | Incredible $35 Seafood and Roast Buffet in Johor Bahru

- It would be nice to expand the travel horizons to beyond the typical destinations of Las Vegas, New York and all the other great North American cities. I booked a trip to Singapore about a year ago and with work being so busy, I had little to no planning. Let's embark on this little adventure to Asia together. First stop, Malaysia hoping to find great meals, maybe a buffet or two... (local or Vegas style) and more importantly connect with old friends and perhaps meeting and build new friendships.
The little amount of planning was evident as I mistakenly booked a hotel in Malaysia while traveling to Singapore; however that proved to be a fortuitous event as not only does the dollar stretches much further in Malaysia, but the food is incredible. And as luck would have it, a few of the locals suggested an amazing buffet. One of the largest if not the largest in the Johor Bahru area and it certainly did not disappoint. Living up to the Vegas standards and then some, it was an experience like none other. Massive River Prawns friend and cooked to perfection, the whole roasted lamb slowly cooked over charcoal, and the satay gently grilled to achieve a smokey caramel exterior around the succulent tender meat.
Those were just some of the many items offered at this incredible buffet and at $35, an incredible deal. I hope you'll join me as we embark on this little adventure in Asia.

People go to Las Vegas for their buffets. But from watching Tim's videos, the buffets in Asia and Europe are way better and cheaper

There are buffets in Malaysia. Else you can go to a mixed rice stall be it Chinese or Malay. Order from the available spread maybe over 30 choices.

Looks Delish, Tim. The white cube you thought was Taro was actually a boiled & compressed Rice Cake called "Lontong" which we typically eat with Satay.

The white cube is actually a rice cooked in a bamboo - just a Malay traditional cooking, complementing the satay / satay sauce.
I can see how that goes so nicely with the satay sauce. Very enjoyable 😋

P/s. The stuff you thought was taro may be ketupat ( ke-too-part ) which is rice cake that goes together with the satay and you did right by dipping it into the peanut satay sauce 👍🏼.
Tim: only you booked a hotel in the wrong country! All said & done, it was a great deal with breakfast at $30. The buffet was also a great deal, big selection! Interesting that there was a lot of Lebanese dishes!

Wow that turned out to b an amazing room and buffet for the price! Coca u did very good! It all looked wonderful. I think the skewered grilled meat would've been my favorite. U didn't want to eat the soft jelly like coconut after drinking the water? Coconut water is delicious!

A lot of times the desserts at these places are just standard but the desserts at this place looked so unique and interesting - particularly the oreo cake in strawberry flavor!

glad you remembered about the butter fish😁 it is tasty but.... great looking buffet but i also liked the little glimpse into the open market food stalls I would have liked to see more of it. Great video as always. Was the item you thought might be taro actually jicama/sengkuang??? it looked like jicama sounded like it tasted like jicama 😏

Tim everywhere you travel and eat the food looks sooo good. I really like seeing you enjoy your food. I do not like stiff and starchy eater's. Food is meant to be enjoyable when delicious.
We certainly enjoyed our meal that night.. had to do laundry afterwards, a bit of a messy eater here 😉

Well mayy this was for a reason
No need to plan. I book a flight in, a flight out, and the first hotel, and wing it from there. We stayed at the Renaissance in June. You do Windham, I do Marriott brands.😁 That was our breakfast restaurant every morning. It is out of the way, but Grab is very cheap. Took Grab everywhere.
It is quite amazing how far the dollar stretches. Absolutely no complaints 😃
@@TimLeeLetsGo go to KL, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton for $130/night! My wife says where else can you stay at the Ritz for $130? But a local hotel would only cost in the prime area costs $45 to $60/night. But then again it's not the Ritz. Happy wife, happy life!🤣🤣

No way! I'm staying at a wyndham Ramada resort here in side, Turkey 🇹🇷 can't really say I've had the best experience so far however with the resort 😮 terrible food and awful staff 😳 x

Unless it says beef. ITS probably Water Bufffalo . Fresh from a farmer.
However, I would perfer they display roast chickens, chicken thigh, drumstick, wings, roast duck instead putting the lamb. Practically majority people don't eat lamb, for them it's just as good for display. Awe! I have the soft spot for icing cakes with a cup of coffee
Most foreigners are ignorant of the regional history. He kept saying singaporean food and menu. Please understand, singapore is originally part of the malay peninsular. So the food in singapore are a bad reflections of Malaysian cuisine. If you get my drift.
Of course singapore wants to create something they can call their own. So they have been pinching Malaysian cuisine and calling it their own.
We in Malaysia don't care all these 'singapore' attached menu when we know they are our cuisine in the first place, we just enjoy the good food in malaysia regardless.
I won't be surprised if singapore will claim & submit to UNESCO or whatever to call the coconut juice as 'singapore' juice. Haha
