      Ah, its both harder and easier to find near mint condition volvos now. 10+ years ago it was easy to find endless rusted out ones for almost free, and a few old man owned in decent condition but no one restored or cared for them. Now theres more and more restored ones and more hidden barnfinds coming out thanks to higher value so its way easier to find a mint one today but you have to pay 50 - 120 000

      @@neuroleptika All agreed, its both easier and harder. With "this nice" I meant like a barn find of the sort Michael did find. 145 (station wagon), 2 owners, sitting for the last 10 years, everything original on the car, not completely banged up etc. Like a dream for a restorer! Already restored or customized ones are still quite easy to find if you got the cash.

    • @neuroleptika
      @neuroleptika 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OrangeZingoSWE yep thats true. But if you just want a decent or mint 240, even the most expensive will often cost you less than to restore yourself so I think rn prices are in a sweet spot, you get basically a brand new 240 for half or less of a new low end car

    My old man had a 92 240 5 speed in fjord blue, ipd exhaust, mild cam, installed 2 janky turbo setups then got a nice one, suspension upgrades all around, and a clutch upgrade. But the thing looked completely stock. It made 275hp at the wheels in final form and he sold it for 3k 4 years ago with 400k on it to a good home. The skinny little tires were so kick ass for burnouts in the high school parking lot.

    Oh my goodness I bought this same exact 1969 Volvo Wagon from the original owners in 1985. Same color. Manual transmission. Super comfortable. I probably have a picture of it somewhere. I loved it. Drove my new baby around in it. It broke down and I let it sit for a year and then gave it to a friend. I don't know what even happened to it, but I could track down the old friend and ask

    This low mileage rust free Volvo station wagon is a real gem. It looks incredibly good. Extremely rare to find in a condition like this.
    2) I really hope that I missed something or have you seriously changed only the brake caliper and pads on one side? If so it's definitely a big, big no go!!! It's extremely important to absolutely always do brake renewals on both sides of the axle. If not, you will have uneven breaking and that's definitely a big safety issue.
    Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards luck and health to all of you.

    These are beautiful, well-designed cars and this example is in such clean original condition. Probably my favourite vehicle on this channel - I'd love to see more of her but in true Volvo fashion she will probably give you very little cause to tinker, so just enjoy driving what is still an incredibly usable everyday classic.
    Here in the UK the 140 series was prone to rotting out, and so if you want one now you need deep pockets or else to be very handy with the welder. Even the later 240s (which I have in 1982, DL sedan form) were no match for our horrendous weather.
    The dual circuit brakes can be a pain to set up but they were a revolutionary safety feature when Volvo introduced them in the 60s and designed to make a total brake failure almost impossible. Good call on the roof rack, I think they add a nice retro surf wagon look to these cars.
    My partner and I have six kids so if i had one of these, I'd probably source and fit the optional third row rear-facing seats that stow away into the trunk floor and make a really practical family bus :)
