    Sonically I could only hear subtle differences when hearing isolated tracks. As I told you in discord, you and Mike influenced me to get an 8 string Goliath. So glad I did because it’s an absolute winner.

    I like fanned fret 8 strings but for 7s I honestly just like a normal 25.5 scale since I play in standard tuning and use a Floyd

    I have both straight and fanned 7’s, and honestly I don’t think I prefer one over the other. Playability’s about the same.
    If I ever venture into 8 string territory, fanned frets are gonna be a must.

      The drums are getting a bit overwhelmed for my taste, I would say experiment with a compressor on the master bus to help glue everything together. The overheads are a bit washy, they could use some EQ cuts and a roll off on the top end. The bass is a tad boomy too. Just my opinion, but the guitars sound great man!

    I think the point you made about string gauge is key. A thicker string results in more inharmonicity which results in a duller sound (you can simulate this by picking closer to the neck). The reason why tonally they sound similar is the same string gauge, but as you mention it makes playing it very awkward! Great video (and superb playing!).

    I’m hearing a stereo effect that either sounds like either two tracks or a slow, stereo chorus(possibly a doubler) in each of these isolated samples. Is that the plugin or is each guitar being double tracked?

    Thanks for this explanation......Ok so here's my situation......im looking for a 7 string guitar to okay on drop A or drop g# tuning and mainly chugging riffing nu metal riffs on the lower fat strings........the ONLY CATCH is that ive been playing right handed guitars as a left hander for almost 15 years now and thenfat strings have always been at the lower end of the guitar.......what would you recommend- a 7 string or a multi scale or baritone 6 string?

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh wow, thats a HUGE catch and won’t work for you at all. Baritones are a different thing entirely, their scale length is so long they sound much tighter to my ears. So you’re looking for a straight fret 7 string guitar if it’s a righty you’re playing left handed. The only thing I’d say is look for something with longer scale length.
      I say that, the Mayones isn’t long, but people still like the sound of it. I’d just be wary of drop G# on 25.5

    • @frankwashley
      @frankwashley 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeviClay The Osiris multiscale length compensates so the low B string doesn't have the slack that causes the slight pitch fluctuation that the Mayones had. So, I look at it as more of an extended low range tool, than a "metal only" axe. The soundtrack called for a heavy guitar sound in a couple of spots. Now, I am planning to use heavier strings & lower it down two or three half steps. I'm curious what string gauges you used on your 7-string guitars & if a slightly higher gauge would be better for tuning the thing down, while still being able to easily do bends.

    Great vid ! I am currently on the fence about getting a multiscale. I have an Ibanez JBM 27 but i don't like the tension or the frets span up on the high end. I live in the u.s. it's too bad that music stores don't have any multi-scales on the shelves to try. That said the Ormsby definitely had a deeper low punch!!

    I feel like it should be a huge difference. I have SVN and a ESP E-II M-II and the difference in those scale lengths is only 1 inch (PRS 26.5 vs ESP 25.5) and for me it's pretty dramatic. On short scale lengths it feels like my pick gets stuck often because the string is all over the place. Playing on the SVN is more comfortable, and I would go with an even higher scale length. Considering multiscales are like 27 inches they must be even more comfortable.

    That's a kick ass riff in the begining! Does this song has a name?
    I like the sluginess of the loose string on the mayones. I'm on the hunt for a 7 string... considering the new solar model with the roasted maple. It's a 25.5'' scale. maybe thats too low? I'll will probably have to go try out both fanned and regular ones. This was very helpful.

    Ormsby has a narrow band scooped in the lower mids, and this is kind of giving it a lower resonant frequency vibe, while Mayones has more even lower frequencies but with a special bite at higher mids. This is more of a character feel for me.

    Ormsby sounds accurately intonated, equal on both channels. Mayones sounds sharp and instable, could just be the performance but it almost sounds out of tune to my ear.
