I remember when I first came, no one told me I needed a suit and can dress casual. Then we had a meeting and everyone looked at me and asked, "why don't you have a suit?" -_- This is a topic that many people do need to be ready for if moving to Japan.
This was actually a really fascinating video... As someone who loves traditional menswear and also Japanese culture... I have been waiting to stumble across a video like this. Recently, I have been looking to buy a suit that was entirely MADE IN JAPAN. I believe most, if not ALL of the Aoki and Aoyama suits are made in China (I could be wrong but this definitely seems to be the case). This is perfectly understandable considering the market that they serve (cheap, decent looking and on demand suits for Japanese people in Japanese society). With that said, do you know of ANY off the rack Japanese suit brands that are actually MADE IN JAPAN? Or would one mostly have to go totally "Made to Measure" or "Bespoke" to get something like this in Japan? Lastly, in the video when you mentioned your "Order Made Suit", I assume this is essentially the same type of program as a "Made to Measure" program right? Great video all around and really cool info. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Cheers!
I really like menswear as well. I have made some videos about my sneaker collection, but the truth is I have a rather large collection of dress shoes, and I own far to many coats...ties...pocket squares...tie pins... I could probably start a whole channel! Outside of bespoke, there are small businesses that make suits in Japan, out of Japanese made fabrics. But they tend to be really local and hard to find. Here is one that I know of - made in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, which has long been a town famous for fabrics. There they used to make luxury fabrics for lining the kimono of the rich during a time when laws prohibited flashy fabrics for the outer part of kimono. jokerstailor.com
I've been working here for a few years now and am considering getting some day to day suits so I don't wear down my bespoke ones from Australia. Your info on Global Ginza Style was really helpful as it's one of the places I was considering. I am a slender guy so the sizing issues may not be a problem for me and the size sounds reasonable. If you're still responding to this video would you mind telling me if the suits held up over time? I guess it's been a couple of years now. Anyway, I'm gonna check out some of your other content while I'm at it. Thanks
Thank you for the comment. The suits have held up just fine - the gray one in particular has seen a lot of wear and just by virtue of it being all natural fabric it looks great. For comparison I have an Aoki gray suit (which, granted, is 2 years older) that looks shiny at the elbows and knees in the typical fashion of synthetic materials. As long as the fit works, I don't think you can go wrong.
@@Exjapter Thanks for the reply! That's really good news. I've never really been a fan of synthetic suits but I think it sounds like the order made are not bad considering the price point. I'll go and take a look once the weather settles down a bit. Cheers man
If the chain stores like Aoki or Aoyama fit, that should be just fine for the interview. If you don't plan to be wearing a suit a lot, I wouldn't spend a lot of money. Or, if you think you will need a suit for a long time - maybe go for a quality suit that will last a lifetime. Both strategies have merits.
@ExJapTer Yeah, Aoki and Aoyama seem like good places. I’ve never got a suit before so the whole fitting process is totally knew to me, but the way you described it the process there seems like my Japanese doesn’t need to be that good. Was worried since I haven’t even bought a suit in English before. But I feel confident now thanks to your advice.

If anyone who looking for jobs in Japan gotta get a recruitment suit only for that Aoki or Aoyama Is the place to go you can get the whole recruitment suit set but idk it's worthy or not
Personally I would browse various resale shops if you want to try things on and get a better deal than department stores, but if you know your size and have an interest in any particular brands, there are a lot of trench coats and men's outerwear sold on Yahoo Auctions that often go for well under retail. (Classic brands like Burberry, Hugo Boss, etc.)
@@Greg-uq8ng After all that is it really cheaper when factoring in the flight and accommodation for 3+ days? I suppose that is a great idea for getting the right fit, but I would still wonder about the fabric and craftmanship. I am not enough of an expert to tell by feel and sight if the fabric is what they say it is and if the stitching is going to last. I am not against trying it out though, how much are we talking price wise?

Quite possibly, although I don't have that experience. How easy/difficult is it to get something decent in Thailand?
@@Exjapter it's easy they take all the measurements you choose the fabric. Pick it up 2 or 3 days later
