The real reason why everyone likes this song so much is because it is based on raag Ahir Bhairav. It's sad we don't have more raag based music these days. Today everything is so bloody westernised.
I think this version of Albela Sajan of Bajirao Mastani is based on Raag Bhupali . While the former version of the same from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was based on Raag Ahir Bhairav :)
No this song is actually based on raag alahiya bilawal the old version in hum dil de chuke movie it was based on ahir bhairav
Sujit Banerjee raag bhupali is different because raag bhupali does not has the use of ma and ni but this song have ma and ni and all shudh swars

0:40 we have instrument used in krishna mats vrathas and bajans
At 1:05 u have volaga and tabala
