I was at Madison Square Garden in 1957 when George Beverly Shea sang How Great Thou Art. I was on my way to serve as a missionary in Mali Republic, West Africa, where I served with my wife for over 44 years. From the time I was saved as a senior in HS in Kansas City, MO, in 1951 through YFC I have followed the BGEA. Only heaven will tell of all who have been blessed through the Billy Graham team as they've labored for the Lord. God be praised: Robert Dean Overstreet: WatchmenOfTheKing
May God grant peace and strength to the family of George Beverly Shea who today entered the heaven he sang about for decades at the age of 104. Thank you for your faithful ministry to so many.
I went to two different Baptist churches in the bible belt, and requested of each minister to have the congregation sing this song for the benefit of everyone. They wouldn't do it. Yet, I hear the audience and a famous singer singing it on TH-cam whenever I want to hear it. God is Great!
Wow over 100 years old and still going strong for JESUS. I remember growing up in the 80s and back then I was made to sit and watch him on the Billy Graham gospel hour, but now in my 30s how I cherish those days. JESUS your awesome in all You do.
My mom just passed away 2 days ago and my prayer during her lengthy illness was that she find my God and be able to sing How great Thou Art along with Mr . Shea. Mom I pray you will R.i.p. with Jesus.
2:10 "When CHRIST shall come, with shout of acclimation, and take me home, what JOY shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow, in humble adoration, and there proclaim, my GOD how GREAT thou art!!!!!!!" -George Beverly Shea. I remember you being the guest speaker at my high school graduation 10 years ago on June 1, 2003. You sang this song and I felt my entire future burning bright in front of me. You are now with my Papaw, whom you were friends with, and I know you are both in the Heavenly Choir!
RIP Bro. George Beverly Shea... ! What a privilege for all of us to be able to hear you... ! But once again for long time.. we will hear your great voice glorifying God.. up in heaven. Miss you..! May His peace befall on us all.. at this time.
I only ever had the pleasure of hearing George Beverly Shea live once, at QPR football stadium when I was a steward. One of the greatest experience of my life.
No opera singer in the world could bring own the house like George Beverly shea. His songs cause us to worship the Lord with all our heart. Such a joyful crowd.
One may feel their voice not worthy to lift in song,, but to your your Lord it is the most beautiful sound in heaven. “ by golly, that kid might make it after all! “ Though the years may have turned the hair as white as snow, the hopes of a young boy still live.
I Remember (As A Boy) The First Time I Heard This. It Gave Me Goose-Bumps Then As It Does Today. Give Your Heart To JESUS CHRIST Today, Before Time Runs Out. Jesus Loves You, Died For You and Wants to Spend Eternity With You.
Amazing example of a failing human being using the incredible gift God gave him for HIS glory, not his own. My parents played this man's records growing up and his voice was always my fav.
Today my eyes fill with tears of joy, to know that you are now in the presence of our Lord and Savior and can sing that song TO HIM, face to face! Thank you for your service to our Savior and the beauty and inspiration you brought into our lives with your songs
Bev Shea is singing face to face with his Lord tonight. What a concert is going on in the Heavenly choir! Thank you to our God for blessing us with Bev's ministry all these years.
Watching him sing happily in his old age is a very wonderful testimony that our GOD is really great! I can't help but cry because I feel so blessed just by watching him sing of GOD's power and greatness..not only to HIS life but among all of us! To GOD be all the glory!
I met George in the 70s. My twin and I were with Cliff Barrows for a week at a church in Atlanta. Cliff Preached each night and we did 2 or 3 songs . George came in one night of the meeting and sang. Most people are not aware that Cliff is a fantastic preacher . Every one thinks he just leads the music for the Big crusades. Both George and Cliff are just down home humble fellows and working with them was a highlight of all our years in music ministry. Thanks for sharing this video !! - FLOYD
My late wife brought back The Beautiful Garden of Prayer record by George Beverly Shea back from America in 1958 and is still being played. The voice is beautiful and his recording of How Great Thought Art tops every thing I remember hearing my wife singing it in 1959 and it brought me to accept Jesus.
Richard Brian Prickett Wow, that sounds like a wonderful story. Truly, the Lord only knows how many people were lead to Christ through his songs, but every one is special! May I ask what country you are from?
RIP Bro George Beverly Shea, you have been such a blessing to me and my family as I remember my grand daddy, grand ma, and my daddy, who have all gone to heaven now, sing these very words so many times. Tell them all high as ya'll all sing together for Jesus and the Angels! This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through! God Bless you all!
Meant so much to me in my teenage years attended the Billy Graham Crusades in Wollongong NSW Australia. My Mum was a councillor and I enjoyed singing along with George Beverly Shea and the choir. He is a wonderful testament to his friend Billy Graham and his everlasting faith in Jesus Christ.
May our Heavenly Father greet George into his Kingdom and grant his family Peace, Strength and Comfort. Thank You George..... You've blessed so many...
Your voice was that of a strong lovely angel. I grew up watching and respecting both you and the Rev. Graham. Turning into an old man myself now. I will see you in heaven Mister Shea.
George Beverly Shea is 102 now and going strong! Still singing for Jesus. There is still hope for America while Saints like this are still among us. We are on the verge of the greatest WORLDWIDE REVIVAL the Earth has ever experienced. Pray for 5 BILLION SOULS FOR CHRIST!
I've got another 30 years before I get near Bev Shea in age, but will never get anywhere near his wonderful gospel ministry record. What a true & faithful servant. Amen.
When Christ came, with shout of acclamation, to call George Beverly Shea home, he bowed in humble adoration and proclaimed, 'My God, How Great Thou Art." Thank you, Mr. Shea, for many, many years of your beautiful music praising our Lord.
SANDIE...HOW LOVELY!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE!! YES, I MUST SAY THAT I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. I'M SO BLESSED TO HAVE HEARD DR. BILLY GRAHAM AND REV GORGEOUS BEVERLY SHEA WHEN I WAS A CHILD. BOTH NOW WITH OUR LORD. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE WONDERFUL TALKS BILLY MUST BE HAVING WITH JESUS AND THE SONGS THAT BEV IS SINGING WITH THE HEAVENLY ANGELS. ONE DAY WE WILL BE THERE, SANDIE, TO SIT AND LISTEN TO THESE GREAT MEN OF GOD.
Saw George perform here in Ottawa, Canada (just north of his birthplace of Winchester, Canada) in 1998, warming up those assembled to see and hear Billy Graham preach. What a man & what a singer! He certainly lived a good, long life! George Beverly Shea, R.I.P.

Love thy brother as thy self. Love those that disagree with you, love those who have more than you, love those that have less. Our Lord never drew a line that said I cannot love you. He just saved them.
"When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!" welcome home brother George, there may be tears shed tonight for our loss of you here on earth, but there is celibration in heaven. I know you heard the words we all stive to hear when we finally meet our Father face to face, "well done good and faithful servent" you were a true warrior of God.
OK......I have to share this..........in 2000, I was a pallbearer at my father-in-law's funeral, and he programmed many of these old hymns for his funeral service........well, when he programmed "How Great Thou Art" at the end of his service.........being brought up in the Baptist Church as I was, and because my Granddad, a Baptist minister for about 28 years, loved those old songs.......I raised my mighty baritone as we took that casket to the hearse, and did my BEST "George Beverly Shea", & I'm proud to have done it!!!
Just a few years ago, his wife Marie, my Mom-In-Law till 2007, passed away. I have still been in contact with some of my ex-wife's family......just not HER. Just like her husband before her, she programmed this song for the recessional, when the casket was taken out. I attended the funeral, to honor her, as she had never been unkind to me..............and once again raised my mighty baritone as she was taken to the hearse..........
RIP George! it was probably my favorite thing to ever do in church band, transitioning from Charlie Hall's "Marvelous Light" into this awesome song... this dude was a blessing for 104 years, and will continue to be for many more years because of his music!

His voice was full of something that comes only after enduring some amazing experiences in life. It's got that underlying, unspeakable joy.
May OUR LORD Bless George Beverly Shea and Keep him in Eternal Rest.RIP with The Lord.
He is still singing. It is all about the love between us and God and vice versa. GBS love for God just radiates in his voice.
