I stop drinking at Starbucks Coffee during the pandemic. We saved enough money to buy a LG vacuum stick. I actually followed most of your advice in your video. We do grow some butter lettuce in our backyard and let our kids grow them. We have a family of 4 with one car though instead of two cars. No, we have no TV in our home. Just one desktop, laptops and tablets. We have no subscriptions like HBO or Hulu. We just don't have any time. We took advantage of the rewards points on our credit cards. We have no credit card debts at all.
He had a good suggestion of pet sitting win:win. There are too many pets on this planet being treated better than too many kids on this planet. It’s emotionally enriching to sponsor a child in some country that would love to be treated as good as many people treat their dogs in other countries!

Praise the LORD, I paid off my credit cards five years ago. I saved so much. I am growing vegetables and fruits on my land. I stop buying clothes and jewelry. I wear nice clean clothes such as long skirts and dresses. I don't wear jewelry at all. I do event planning and I am a license Wedfing Designer. I work for myself. My son and I cook and serve the homeless, orphans, widows and the Fartherless at a Soup Kitchen every Monday and Thursday.

I stopped shopping, paid all of my dept. store cards, my home and vehicle are paid off. I'm 57 and when I do shop it's for things that are needed. I too grow some veggies at home. I love it!
I just celebrated my 69th birthday yesterday, GOD IS GOOD I have paid off my car, credit card, and my home is paid for. I have accumulated more in my checking account ( and will begin to boost up my savings account too). My husband is a staunch believer in Dave Ramsey's Financial Planner advise of, "Saving at least six month's saving for emergencies ( e.g. government shut down). I've learned to, "sepetate needs from wants" Dave Ramsey's mantra, "Live like no one else so you can live like no one else" I was able to retire much earlier than most O and did I mention, GOD IS GOOD 😀

When I was working downtown, I’d park for free 6 blocks away every day. I never did pay for parking my entire career. I also brought my lunch each day.
Vehicle paid off! Found a cheap reliable mechanic for it, all I buy is the parts. No TV , No cable, No computer, No service, No newspapers, No magazines, No credit/debit cards ( cash only) No fancy nails( cut my own nails and file them), No children (don't worry about medical, legal, education, clothing and so forth) just two cats( because they were strays a third party paid for them to be spayed and neutered...one is 19 years old the other is 6 years old,( they're really not that expensive) use the library and senior center. I avoid public transportation, because I use my van for work( and I don't deliver pizzas or any Uber stuff) , I have also gone through personal property and sold the unwanted stuff and what doesn't sell donate to charity ( I get a receipt for taxes)) taxes are done at senior center by AARP tax representative for free ( 60 and older can have their taxes done for free).

A week after my husband and I got engaged he was laid off from his job. We know at that point that we needed to get a place to live where with just having one income would be able to pay for it. In the next 10 years I would find things I could do without. I stopped buying paper towels and shopped yard sales to get cloth napkins, cloth rags, cloth hand towels so I would always have enough to clean. We canceled our cable (15 years ago) and hopped on Netflix almost as soon as it’s online version started. I took my lunch to work 4 out of 5 days (I was a school teacher). I kept grocery shopping down to $25 a month. All this allowed my husband to stay at home after he had a ministroke at age 29. We lived off my pay check only and paid off our car in 2007, paid off the mortgage in 2011, paid off my student loan in 2013, and paid off all credit cards in 2018. This has all been a blessing because I became disabled in 2017. GOD takes care of us when we take care of others. We have never given anything to others that we expected back.
Who BUYS their pets? I've gotten every dog and cat I've ever owned by rescue only; I believe they know you saved them, and they are more grateful and loyal!
I got my dog from my brother 8 years ago and I got my cat from my sister last year. I wasn't planning on getting any pets until they had puppies and kittens

Da_ Answer Yes. Most people that list this as a savings are not wrong if you purchasing a car over 25000. But at the national average of 17000 your looking at $200 or less monthly.
I just have basic cable 50 bucks a month. Have my own router blah. Have a bunch of roku's. Subscribe to only Hulu cuz I like old shows. . Not a big movie guy so Hulu's okay. Then I have a computer and I watch other shows on the networks websites for free. Just have to wait a week for the new episode to come on. And I watch a lot of stuff on TH-cam. So my total monthly bills about 62 bucks. I'm going to install a TV antenna on my roof this summer. That should cost about two hundred bucks. And that will be all. I'll cancel Hulu at that time.
TV is a time waster. I don't own one. The flicker rate lulls people into a state of suseptability. And the subliminally posted messages! A bad business all around.

You don't need to buy bean seeds either. for instance, I've never bought Black bean or Bush seeds, but most bean seeds cost $1.00 to $4.00 for a small pack. A 1 LB bag of most types of bean seeds in the supermarket cost about $1.29 to $2.29. they are viable seeds to plant, and then save some of the best beans to dry and harvest for seeds for the next year's planting. I do the same for tomatoes, corn, winter wheat, sunflowers and many other plants!
As a nurse I rock - seriously, I can bring people back from the dead lol! And animals? There’s not an animal that I can’t make friends with and, yeah, I’ve got 6 large rescue dogs (think of them as a security system). But sadly, plants commit suicide when they see me. Lol. But think about good quality food as a commitment to your health. If you eat better quality food (notably fruits and vegetables), you’ll spend less time at the doctors. And yeah - we all have to have a vice. Mine are books. I read voraciously. But I also re-read my books. Many times. They are like old friends. And like I said. - you might consider animals expensive, but they perform multiple functions. They improve human health. They reduce depression. They protect your home as well as potentially laying down their own lives to save yours. They provide love - no strings attached. All things of worth cost some money. Our furry companions are one of them.
I agree with some of these ideas. Examples what I don't spend money on. 1. No TV 2. No cable 3. I drive a 2009 Kia Rio with only 128.680 miles. 4. Credit card I pay in full every month. 5. I have one window unit in bedroom window and only use while sleeping. 6. Pay property taxes on time. 7. Use free turbo tax on line. 8. Use clothes line to dry my clothes no dry. 9. Buy clothes at used clothing stores. 9. I do my own lawn. 10. I only buy the necessities at the grocery store. 11. I only eat twice a day and on my days off from work I fast for today's. 12. I fill my 2 five gallon water jogs. 13. Many other things I do to keep cost down and more in my pocket. My neighbor is amazed at my monthly utility bills. Where my neighbor pays about 350.00 to 400.00 on electric, water, wast water plus city fees. I pay only about $85. to $110. on utilities which covers the basics electric,water,waste water and city fees. My savings is growing and extra cash I hold on to in a Secret place where it isn't recorded by any agency.
I agree with most of these, and already am applying most of these in my life, and he is absolutely correct, it all adds up, I now have actual spending money and don’t stress as much about my finances, sadly, the one I can’t do is the grow my own food, I don’t have a yard in my apartment to grow anything bigger than herbs, there is one that I don’t agree with though, it’s the car, the reason why is because even though Uber and scooters and such are available, they still cost money, and....... it adds up, I would instead recommend getting a reliable inexpensive car that’s not financed and is great on gas

Restaurants are the biggest waste of money especially when you go and order a grilled cheese sandwich or macaroni and cheese for $8.00 You waste so much money by eating out often. This is a practice by many young couples with small kids.

When I move out I'm going to grow some of the veggies I use the most and a lemon tree if I can, then I can make lemonade and make and can my own lemon curd spread instead of paying 5 or 6 $s at the store every time I get to craving some....
My husband and I sold our second car a few years ago. So now we save insurance, personal property tax, tags and maintenance. We’ve had to coordinate schedules but we are mostly retired so it works for us.
The main thing no one ever mentioned is, unplug everything you are not using. Even though the machine is not being used, it is still using electricity. Also T Mobile has the hotspot. That Also helps a lot.
This is awesome I’ve discovered your channel today, and I love the Biblical principals! My hubby and I are ministers that are still trying to recover financially from bad divorces from exes that ruined our credit (prayers for miracles, please!). So we are starting over. We have three young boys that we homeschool and a ministry that is basically starting all over. We have my van that is 9 years old. Paid off, but starting to need repair. And it’s impossible for us to afford Uber because of our low income (and unfortunately have to drive it twice a week 45 miles one way to exchange the kids with the ex). So I need all the money-saving tips I can get, LOL! I can’t wait to read your article on traveling for free, because, as a ministry, we want to travel and go to places that need us to minister there. Fun video, loved the intro music and editing. I probably am spending the most on our car but that is only because car insurance is pricey. We own both vehicles.Then food would be next, still working on that part of our lives. Do you know who Darci the minimalist is? I think you guys would like her videos about food ingredients and minimalism. A thought on the pet suggestions. Being an individual that is working towards eventually being a homesteader/future farmer, I know animals can be very expensive. But just like your garden suggestion on saving on groceries, also consider animals as pets that can also bring food, such as ducks, chickens, goats, cows, etc... may be more work then you want to commit too, but the quality of food coming from those animals would be way better then what you would find in a grocery store and you'd hopefully get your pet fill as well :)
I started washing my own cars. I mow my own lawn. I cut my own hair. I reuse paper plates if they're still clean. When I dry my hands with a paper towel, it lays out to dry and reuse. I also planted walnut trees in my back yard to pay the taxes on my home

Having Lyft to come take me everywhere I go would cost way way more then paying gas and insurance on my car maybe if I was paying a rediculous high car payment or something. We don't have buses where I live. But some of these other ideas are pretty good.
amy Bayes I live about a half mile or so from the grocery store but it is on the other side of a major highway with no lights or crosswalks for miles, so I have to take transport. Uber/Lyft advertise $10-12 each way (plus tip). If I spent $25-30 to get to the grocery, I'd have to forget food altogether. There are no taxi or bus services but you can get a senior shared-ride taxi if you are over 65 or disabled. Well, until the ADA gets cut.

When it comes to cell phones, if you're willing to settle for a model that's a year old, they sell them brand new on eBay and Amazon and, you get a chance to go on TH-cam and find out how the phone performs before you buy it. HTC put out a phone about a year ago that I really wanted, but they wanted $800 for it. My phone kicked a couple of weeks ago. I went online and bought the same phone that I wanted, brand new, for $180.00. Between my husband and I? That's a savings of $1,200. We don't buy store model phones anymore. Also, I disagree. I think you need a car. It's not a good idea to to be without. This is what we did: We decided what kind of car we wanted. We did our homework. Our budget was 16k. we found a 2017 Subaru Forester, blue booked 34k. It had been rear-ended and repaired. Only 2700 miles on it. It still smelled new. They wanted 18K for it. We walked out all expenses paid for $15,700 cash. It gets 27 miles to the gallon. It has four-wheel-drive, and it's immaculate. I'm of the opinion that you need a car, but not a car payment. food of course is a big ticket item. We shop discount and big box stores. Many of them carry organic products for a good price. my best resource though is Neighbors Gardens. We had free tomatoes and zucchini and cucumbers plus our own herb garden and. Eggs from our chickens All Summer Long. The best thing to do is learn how to can. You know what's in the food and it's way cheaper than buying. If you get together with friends who also have Gardens and resources, you can trade. That way you don't have to do all the work yourself. But, if watering the garden is too much work for you, then canning is going to be a real pain. Once you get acquainted with this, it's amazing. Buy your clothes second-hand. Goodwill, renewed boutiques, anything like that. I get some of the most gorgeous things From thrift stores. If I absolutely have to have something right now, then I will go to a department store, but I haven't done it In at least a year. a while back I got a brand new Saks Fifth Avenue purse for $4. It's the best one I ever had..gorgeous! Don't go out to eat. It's just not worth it. As an alternative, we have partnered up with some friends and started what we're going to call a gourmet Club. Each of us will take a course and make something. It will improve our cooking skills, give us a night out, and grow friendship. As for pets, they have value. Dogs keep away thieves. It doesn't matter if it's a Chihuahua or a Great Dane. They hear that bark? They don't know how aggressive your pet is. It will Scare them off. Also, dogs need walking. That's $40 a month on a gym membership all by itself. Just walk the dog instead. Cats catch mice. We lost our cat a few years back and didn't replace her. Mice went through all kinds of items in the garage. It took us forever to get rid of them. Not to mention at least $500 worth of food in the pantry. Cats are worth their weight in gold. Feed your animals the same thing you eat. Pet food's not good them anyway.
Don't DO NOT feed pets people food! It's not specifically formatted for their nutritional needs and could cause deficiencies. Besides that, dogs do not need to eat cooked bones they splinter inside the dog and create gastric problems and maybe even painful DEATH. If anything, you feed them RAW bones but never ever cooked bones after we eat the meat off the bone. Pay heed!

EXCEPT the human dog food... not advisable!! "just me" is RIGHT!!! ConstantCompanion Where is your thrift store? I've found the good stuff gets grabbed by the workers for themselves, families and friends. By the time ppl who actually need it get to it, the only clothing left is all worn out. Don't forget everyone is into saving too, even those who could afford to buy retail. And then there are the ppl who buy up things from charity shops and resell it at a profit. It is all ok as far as everyone making on it, I'm just saying that most charity shops are stocked with goods that should long ago have been relegated to the dust bin.

Yeah not everyplace has decent public transportation or even Uber or Lyft out in the boonies we have to have a car. I know a ton of people that drive 50-100 miles a day to get to work
Thank you for the information. I live in the country and I own my vehicle so the only expense is maintence,fuel, insurance and year end registration and inspection. However, I am thinking about using Lift or uber to do away with repairs and all the expenses mentioned. However, I need to compare the expenses of Uber to taking care of a car. I do grow a garden and can my harvest. it is alot of work, but so worth it.

Not many military (U.S) are told this (or weren't) If you have your enlistment papers, and the cards you had/have before enlisting you send them copies of your enlistment with your next payment and a note stating "you are using the sailors and soldiers act of 1940 (double check on date with JAG!) . Once done they must by law reduce your interest rate from enlistment date to 6% many will send you a check other will apply it to balance. When i did this i had 8 years left on my RV. The next month i had the pink and a check for $12,000.00+ from them. I did all of them at once and my total refunds from interest was almost $80k with a zero balance on my cards!
luettias Little known facts! You can get interest reduced on nearly everything if you just ask for it. You can get discounted prices on even one price store items if you dicker. Internet? If the company will give you a one year deal, they can extend it again and again. Are you military, veteran, senior, student, disabled? There are ALWAYS deals but ppl don't ask or demand. We have been so programmed to not be cheap or act like a bum, or embarrass our folks bc we can afford the full price, that we throw our money away to anyone who asks us for it.

This is funny. My cost of living of ALL expenses is always easily under $500/ month. Sometimes even less. Consumers programmed by a tv are so funny. My monthy expenses, $50 phone, $50 auto insurance, $200 food and water. $50 gasoline, $150 auto repair fund. Simple as that. ALL BY MY CHOICE, including no children (a wise choice of a vasectomy at age 23) and i get to travel and wake up at the coolest locations, and see nature everyday. I've never been happier. Oh. And my entertainment... which is priceless in so many ways, and multiple times better than any Hollywood mental programming of a movie or a tv.
Most of the things mentioned in this video, I do. I not only don't have a car, I bicycle. Our town is so small, I can get nearly anywhere & home again in less than a 7mile round trip.
I am a huge fan of the library. I'm constantly reading books or listening to audiobooks for free on my phone. It also is a good alternative to watching too much TV on cable. I've been without cable for about a decade too (just Netflix) and I've grown accustomed to no commercial breaks. I have to say that eliminating a car when you have a family is pretty impractical - carrying car seats and installing them every time you go to the grocery store? Then how do you carry the groceries when you're ready to go home? Also, depending on your distance to your employment and your choice of vehicle, Lyft can be more expensive.
First, thank you. I found your video very helpful. My only related expense is credit card interest that I would much appreciate advice on, but did not find a link. Also: I’m a single mom and would love to share some ideas. My son has been an avid reader since he was 2 and rereads his favorites. I have bought all his books and mine, (often new hard backs) at the goodwill book stores for 1.99 and resold them at garage sales when he has out grown them. I once purchased the entire 11 book Rangers Apprentice series (new and hard back!) for $11.00- (each book normally costs 20-$24). Also, I own a hybrid Lexus and only fill up on Tuesdays or Weds. when gas is 10-20 cents less. And use my Pavillions points so I only spend between $20-$24 p/wk.

Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 I just worked out that to keep our car costs $170 a week! That just include the insurance rego fees, new tyres - oil, fuel and lastly, service costs. It’s crazy! Moral of my story is if you don’t really need to own a car than don’t! 😉
I bought my car 3 yrs ago for $1000 cash its a 2004 dodge grand caravan. I've spent $1000 in parts and done repairs myself or had my son help me. Im fixing to buy 4 used tires for $100 from a junk yard. I pay for liability insurance only and its $40 monthly. I work have a kid in school and music lessons and haul grandbabies around. My vehicle means freedom to me and thats priceless!!! I own my home and have a garden and keep other expenses down. There is a difference in surviving and living!!!
We live in a metropolitan city near public transportation and use both ride services L and U, plus I ride my bike (I'm 62!). We do not have a car. A young family may want to keep one car. We also don't have cable and NO credit cards, thus no credit card debt. If we can't afford it, we don't buy it, and I have a garden. I just planted 30 garlic cloves. They take 9 months to grow. You can also grow herbs in containers inside. I just dug up all my basil to overwinter inside. These are all great tips. Keep them coming. Cheerd, Patricia
I saved pennies on transportation by building a wooden car. It was great except the cops pulled me over a lot. Unfortunately it caught fire while I was driving it, guess I haven't conquered the wooden wheel bearing design yet. And my legs hurt a lot. Not from the peddling, but from braking.

The cops wouldn't allow it on the street even though it was a little town and the lady didn't go but a few blocks in any direction. Don't buy anthing you don't NEED. I heard a great tip....don't buy bulk if you don't have to. There is no place to store things. It's about the same cost if you don't buy bulk. Let the store "store" it for you. I thought this w as a great idea idea. I know 2 ppl who only buy what they need. One will not buy anything unless she gets rid of something. The ogher person will not even buy 2 deodrlorants because she does not want to store them. It works great for tbese 2. it's AMAZING what you don't have to have if you just stop and think. I'm working on both...STOPPIING and THINKING ....about A LOT of things. i use the Library ALL THE TIME. Computers free for at least 2 hrs a day... @Cherokeeman I just throw it in with the other laundry I am not spending money constantly on paper goods they're going up but I feel like I'm saving if you don't think you would then don't do it I don't use paper plates anymore either they are really expensive and going up I haven't walked down the paper aisle and I don't know how long I do get toilet paper but I'm learning how to make my own laundry detergent also. I'm retired and I'm not going to go get another job just to pay for unnecessary things when I can cut them out I can work in my own home to save money
Yep we grow berries, use library.....have car. In our area there is no public transportation so taking uber everywhere would not work, too expensive, no credit cards either

I like the idea of growing your own fruits and veggies but you can't do that if you live in a condo. Absolutely agree about cable. Waste of money. Haven't had it for years. Rosann Supino Know a lady at a senior complex in FL, made lots of spending money by making things to sell to ppl in her complex and the condos around the area. She made a killing on crocheting those poodles that go over a bottle, if you remember them? Turned out that the seniors loved things they remembered or owned back in the day. Look around. Talk to other seniors. Check out the senior centers. I used to make dolls, then discovered everybody wanted ethnic dolls and there weren't many around then, so I started doing those. Some young ppl wanted to garden but didn't know how so a neighborhood lady taught them and never again was without fresh vegetables. You probably know how to do many things. If you have a car you can ride other seniors for half what they pay Uber. Just define an area that would be profitable for you. One lady charges older ppl in her area a monthly fee to take them where they want to go. It is a small town and the ppl usually want to go to the grocery or doctor or church. As a bonus the seniors feel independent and their kids get a break from running them somewhere. Oops. Getting carried away here. Good luck. And remember, there are better and less expensive places to live, if not here then elsewhere!
I don't know if where you live they do this or not but where I live in Kentucky they do at your Public Library instead of going to rent movies are going to the Redbox you can get movies and rent them at the Library for free all brand new movies you can rent FOR FREE... it's not just old movies it's ones that are brand new that just came out that have been released to where you can buy movies instead of buying them you can go rent them.

If there is one thing in this world you can get plenty of for free (or almost free) it is entertainment.
I bought a vintage camper for $800, k fixed it up and live in it. I bought an HD antenna and watch TV for free. I eat vegetarian so now I spend $40 a week on groceries and eat like a queen. I go to Atwood's and buy my dogs vaccines give them myself to save money. I bought two lunch bags a big and small, I pack food and iced tea whenever I go somewhere. It's healthier and I don't have to buy fast food. I bought a portable washing machine and folding clothes dryer, now I don't have to go to the laundromat. My biggest two are this. I thank God for everything I receive and never complain. I give away what I don't use to someone I know in need, if someone likes something I have I will usually give it to them. Hi Bob, if I may, I think you should choose a different example for Acorns or any of the other change saving sites. If people are wanting to or needing to save their change, using Starbucks as an example, may not be the best choice (unless, of course you are getting paid for that subliminal message). I stop drinking at Starbucks Coffee during the pandemic. We saved enough money to buy a LG vacuum stick. I actually followed most of your advice in your video. We do grow some butter lettuce in our backyard and let our kids grow them. We have a family of 4 with one car though instead of two cars. No, we have no TV in our home. Just one desktop, laptops and tablets. We have no subscriptions like HBO or Hulu. We just don't have any time. We took advantage of the rewards points on our credit cards. We have no credit card debts at all.
Can’t get onboard with not having pets. Pets are so emotionally enriching that they are worth far more than the money spent on them!
He had a good suggestion of pet sitting win:win. There are too many pets on this planet being treated better than too many kids on this planet. It’s emotionally enriching to sponsor a child in some country that would love to be treated as good as many people treat their dogs in other countries!

I wear nice clean clothes such as long skirts and dresses. I don't wear jewelry at all. I do event planning and I am a license Wedfing Designer. I work for myself. My son and I cook and serve the homeless, orphans, widows and the Fartherless at a Soup Kitchen every Monday and Thursday.

When I was working downtown, I’d park for free 6 blocks away every day. I never did pay for parking my entire career. I also brought my lunch each day.
Vehicle paid off! Found a cheap reliable mechanic for it, all I buy is the parts.
No TV , No cable, No computer, No service, No newspapers, No magazines, No credit/debit cards ( cash only) No fancy nails( cut my own nails and file them), No children (don't worry about medical, legal, education, clothing and so forth) just two cats( because they were strays a third party paid for them to be spayed and neutered...one is 19 years old the other is 6 years old,( they're really not that expensive) use the library and senior center. I avoid public transportation, because I use my van for work( and I don't deliver pizzas or any Uber stuff) , I have also gone through personal property and sold the unwanted stuff and what doesn't sell donate to charity ( I get a receipt for taxes)) taxes are done at senior center by AARP tax representative for free ( 60 and older can have their taxes done for free).

A week after my husband and I got engaged he was laid off from his job. We know at that point that we needed to get a place to live where with just having one income would be able to pay for it. In the next 10 years I would find things I could do without. I stopped buying paper towels and shopped yard sales to get cloth napkins, cloth rags, cloth hand towels so I would always have enough to clean. We canceled our cable (15 years ago) and hopped on Netflix almost as soon as it’s online version started. I took my lunch to work 4 out of 5 days (I was a school teacher). I kept grocery shopping down to $25 a month. All this allowed my husband to stay at home after he had a ministroke at age 29. We lived off my pay check only and paid off our car in 2007, paid off the mortgage in 2011, paid off my student loan in 2013, and paid off all credit cards in 2018. This has all been a blessing because I became disabled in 2017. GOD takes care of us when we take care of others. We have never given anything to others that we expected back.
I use my Roku tv. All I pay for is internet i use anyway. Tons of free channels to watch. Don't miss paying for satelight

Then I have a computer and I watch other shows on the networks websites for free. Just have to wait a week for the new episode to come on. And I watch a lot of stuff on TH-cam. So my total monthly bills about 62 bucks. I'm going to install a TV antenna on my roof this summer. That should cost about two hundred bucks. And that will be all. I'll cancel Hulu at that time.

You don't need to buy bean seeds either. for instance, I've never bought Black bean or Bush seeds, but most bean seeds cost $1.00 to $4.00 for a small pack. A 1 LB bag of most types of bean seeds in the supermarket cost about $1.29 to $2.29. they are viable seeds to plant, and then save some of the best beans to dry and harvest for seeds for the next year's planting. I do the same for tomatoes, corn, winter wheat, sunflowers and many other plants!
As a nurse I rock - seriously, I can bring people back from the dead lol! And animals? There’s not an animal that I can’t make friends with and, yeah, I’ve got 6 large rescue dogs (think of them as a security system). But sadly, plants commit suicide when they see me. Lol.
But think about good quality food as a commitment to your health. If you eat better quality food (notably fruits and vegetables), you’ll spend less time at the doctors.
And yeah - we all have to have a vice. Mine are books. I read voraciously. But I also re-read my books. Many times. They are like old friends.
And like I said. - you might consider animals expensive, but they perform multiple functions. They improve human health. They reduce depression. They protect your home as well as potentially laying down their own lives to save yours. They provide love - no strings attached. All things of worth cost some money. Our furry companions are one of them.
I like the step on gardening. I planted a couple of tomato plants and the did well and now I have the seeds to plant again next year at no cost.
I agree with some of these ideas. Examples what I don't spend money on.

3. I drive a 2009 Kia Rio with only 128.680 miles.
4. Credit card I pay in full every month.
5. I have one window unit in bedroom window and only use while sleeping.
6. Pay property taxes on time.
7. Use free turbo tax on line.
8. Use clothes line to dry my clothes no dry.
9. Buy clothes at used clothing stores.
9. I do my own lawn.
10. I only buy the necessities at the grocery store.
11. I only eat twice a day and on my days off from work I fast for today's.
12. I fill my 2 five gallon water jogs.
13. Many other things I do to keep cost down and more in my pocket.
My neighbor is amazed at my monthly utility bills. Where my neighbor pays about 350.00 to 400.00 on electric, water, wast water plus city fees. I pay only about $85. to $110. on utilities which covers the basics electric,water,waste water and city fees.
My savings is growing and extra cash I hold on to in a Secret place where it isn't recorded by any agency.

I agree with most of these, and already am applying most of these in my life, and he is absolutely correct, it all adds up, I now have actual spending money and don’t stress as much about my finances, sadly, the one I can’t do is the grow my own food, I don’t have a yard in my apartment to grow anything bigger than herbs, there is one that I don’t agree with though, it’s the car, the reason why is because even though Uber and scooters and such are available, they still cost money, and....... it adds up, I would instead recommend getting a reliable inexpensive car that’s not financed and is great on gas
We had blackberry & raspberry bushes in the past and I forgot how easy they are. Loved the fruit and froze them & used them in smoothies during winter.

My husband and I sold our second car a few years ago. So now we save insurance, personal property tax, tags and maintenance. We’ve had to coordinate schedules but we are mostly retired so it works for us.

This is awesome I’ve discovered your channel today, and I love the Biblical principals! My hubby and I are ministers that are still trying to recover financially from bad divorces from exes that ruined our credit (prayers for miracles, please!). So we are starting over. We have three young boys that we homeschool and a ministry that is basically starting all over. We have my van that is 9 years old. Paid off, but starting to need repair. And it’s impossible for us to afford Uber because of our low income (and unfortunately have to drive it twice a week 45 miles one way to exchange the kids with the ex). So I need all the money-saving tips I can get, LOL! I can’t wait to read your article on traveling for free, because, as a ministry, we want to travel and go to places that need us to minister there. Fun video, loved the intro music and editing. I probably am spending the most on our car but that is only because car insurance is pricey. We own both vehicles.Then food would be next, still working on that part of our lives. Do you know who Darci the minimalist is? I think you guys would like her videos about food ingredients and minimalism. A thought on the pet suggestions. Being an individual that is working towards eventually being a homesteader/future farmer, I know animals can be very expensive. But just like your garden suggestion on saving on groceries, also consider animals as pets that can also bring food, such as ducks, chickens, goats, cows, etc... may be more work then you want to commit too, but the quality of food coming from those animals would be way better then what you would find in a grocery store and you'd hopefully get your pet fill as well :)

I started washing my own cars. I mow my own lawn. I cut my own hair. I reuse paper plates if they're still clean. When I dry my hands with a paper towel, it lays out to dry and reuse. I also planted walnut trees in my back yard to pay the taxes on my home

Having Lyft to come take me everywhere I go would cost way way more then paying gas and insurance on my car maybe if I was paying a rediculous high car payment or something. We don't have buses where I live. But some of these other ideas are pretty good.

amy Bayes I live about a half mile or so from the grocery store but it is on the other side of a major highway with no lights or crosswalks for miles, so I have to take transport. Uber/Lyft advertise $10-12 each way (plus tip). If I spent $25-30 to get to the grocery, I'd have to forget food altogether. There are no taxi or bus services but you can get a senior shared-ride taxi if you are over 65 or disabled. Well, until the ADA gets cut.

When it comes to cell phones, if you're willing to settle for a model that's a year old, they sell them brand new on eBay and Amazon and, you get a chance to go on TH-cam and find out how the phone performs before you buy it. HTC put out a phone about a year ago that I really wanted, but they wanted $800 for it. My phone kicked a couple of weeks ago. I went online and bought the same phone that I wanted, brand new, for $180.00. Between my husband and I? That's a savings of $1,200. We don't buy store model phones anymore.
Also, I disagree. I think you need a car. It's not a good idea to to be without. This is what we did:
We decided what kind of car we wanted. We did our homework. Our budget was 16k. we found a 2017 Subaru Forester, blue booked 34k. It had been rear-ended and repaired. Only 2700 miles on it. It still smelled new. They wanted 18K for it. We walked out all expenses paid for $15,700 cash. It gets 27 miles to the gallon. It has four-wheel-drive, and it's immaculate. I'm of the opinion that you need a car, but not a car payment.
food of course is a big ticket item. We shop discount and big box stores. Many of them carry organic products for a good price. my best resource though is Neighbors Gardens. We had free tomatoes and zucchini and cucumbers plus our own herb garden and. Eggs from our chickens All Summer Long. The best thing to do is learn how to can. You know what's in the food and it's way cheaper than buying. If you get together with friends who also have Gardens and resources, you can trade. That way you don't have to do all the work yourself. But, if watering the garden is too much work for you, then canning is going to be a real pain.
Once you get acquainted with this, it's amazing. Buy your clothes second-hand. Goodwill, renewed boutiques, anything like that. I get some of the most gorgeous things From thrift stores. If I absolutely have to have something right now, then I will go to a department store, but I haven't done it In at least a year. a while back I got a brand new Saks Fifth Avenue purse for $4. It's the best one I ever had..gorgeous!
Don't go out to eat. It's just not worth it. As an alternative, we have partnered up with some friends and started what we're going to call a gourmet Club. Each of us will take a course and make something. It will improve our cooking skills, give us a night out, and grow friendship.
As for pets, they have value. Dogs keep away thieves. It doesn't matter if it's a Chihuahua or a Great Dane. They hear that bark? They don't know how aggressive your pet is. It will Scare them off. Also, dogs need walking. That's $40 a month on a gym membership all by itself. Just walk the dog instead.
Cats catch mice. We lost our cat a few years back and didn't replace her. Mice went through all kinds of items in the garage. It took us forever to get rid of them. Not to mention at least $500 worth of food in the pantry. Cats are worth their weight in gold. Feed your animals the same thing you eat. Pet food's not good them anyway.

Don't DO NOT feed pets people food! It's not specifically formatted for their nutritional needs and could cause deficiencies. Besides that, dogs do not need to eat cooked bones they splinter inside the dog and create gastric problems and maybe even painful DEATH. If anything, you feed them RAW bones but never ever cooked bones after we eat the meat off the bone. Pay heed!

ConstantCompanion Where is your thrift store? I've found the good stuff gets grabbed by the workers for themselves, families and friends. By the time ppl who actually need it get to it, the only clothing left is all worn out. Don't forget everyone is into saving too, even those who could afford to buy retail. And then there are the ppl who buy up things from charity shops and resell it at a profit. It is all ok as far as everyone making on it, I'm just saying that most charity shops are stocked with goods that should long ago have been relegated to the dust bin.

Yeah not everyplace has decent public transportation or even Uber or Lyft out in the boonies we have to have a car. I know a ton of people that drive 50-100 miles a day to get to work

Thank you for the information. I live in the country and I own my vehicle so the only expense is maintence,fuel, insurance and year end registration and inspection. However, I am thinking about using Lift or uber to do away with repairs and all the expenses mentioned. However, I need to compare the expenses of Uber to taking care of a car. I do grow a garden and can my harvest. it is alot of work, but so worth it.

If you have your enlistment papers, and the cards you had/have before enlisting you send them copies of your enlistment with your next payment and a note stating "you are using the sailors and soldiers act of 1940 (double check on date with JAG!) . Once done they must by law reduce your interest rate from enlistment date to 6% many will send you a check other will apply it to balance.
When i did this i had 8 years left on my RV. The next month i had the pink and a check for $12,000.00+ from them. I did all of them at once and my total refunds from interest was almost $80k with a zero balance on my cards!

If the company will give you a one year deal, they can extend it again and again. Are you military, veteran, senior, student, disabled? There are ALWAYS deals but ppl don't ask or demand. We have been so programmed to not be cheap or act like a bum, or embarrass our folks bc we can afford the full price, that we throw our money away to anyone who asks us for it.

This is funny. My cost of living of ALL expenses is always easily under $500/ month. Sometimes even less.

My monthy expenses, $50 phone, $50 auto insurance, $200 food and water. $50 gasoline,
$150 auto repair fund. Simple as that. ALL BY MY CHOICE, including no children (a wise choice of a vasectomy at age 23) and i get to travel and wake up at the coolest locations, and see nature everyday. I've never been happier.
Oh. And my entertainment... which is priceless in so many ways, and multiple times better than any Hollywood mental programming of a movie or a tv.

I am a huge fan of the library. I'm constantly reading books or listening to audiobooks for free on my phone. It also is a good alternative to watching too much TV on cable. I've been without cable for about a decade too (just Netflix) and I've grown accustomed to no commercial breaks. I have to say that eliminating a car when you have a family is pretty impractical - carrying car seats and installing them every time you go to the grocery store? Then how do you carry the groceries when you're ready to go home? Also, depending on your distance to your employment and your choice of vehicle, Lyft can be more expensive.
You can save money if you harvest rain water to water your vegetable garden. That's what we do.
In some states it's against the law to collect rain water. It's crazy but true:-((

My son has been an avid reader since he was 2 and rereads his favorites. I have bought all his books and mine, (often new hard backs) at the goodwill book stores for 1.99 and resold them at garage sales when he has out grown them. I once purchased the entire 11 book Rangers Apprentice series (new and hard back!) for $11.00- (each book normally costs 20-$24).
Also, I own a hybrid Lexus and only fill up on Tuesdays or Weds. when gas is 10-20 cents less. And use my Pavillions points so I only spend between $20-$24 p/wk.
I go to the largest dollar store in town and save around $300/MO. They have name brands too
Some people are afraid to shop at dollar tree,I don't want to buy in bulk I get 30 items for $30!

I bought my car 3 yrs ago for $1000 cash its a 2004 dodge grand caravan. I've spent $1000 in parts and done repairs myself or had my son help me. Im fixing to buy 4 used tires for $100 from a junk yard. I pay for liability insurance only and its $40 monthly. I work have a kid in school and music lessons and haul grandbabies around. My vehicle means freedom to me and thats priceless!!! I own my home and have a garden and keep other expenses down. There is a difference in surviving and living!!!

both ride services L and U, plus I ride my bike (I'm 62!). We do not have a car. A young family may want to keep one car. We also don't have cable and NO credit cards, thus no credit card debt. If we can't afford it, we don't buy it, and I have a garden. I just planted 30 garlic cloves. They take 9 months to grow. You can also grow herbs in containers inside. I saved pennies on transportation by building a wooden car. It was great except the cops pulled me over a lot. Unfortunately it caught fire while I was driving it, guess I haven't conquered the wooden wheel bearing design yet. And my legs hurt a lot. Not from the peddling, but from braking.

The cops wouldn't allow it on the street even though it was a little town and the lady didn't go but a few blocks in any direction. I heard a great tip....don't buy bulk if you don't have to. There is no place to store things. It's about the same cost if you don't buy bulk. Let the store "store" it for you. I thought this w as a great idea idea. I know 2 ppl who only buy what they need. One will not buy anything unless she gets rid of something. The ogher person will not even buy 2 deodrlorants because she does not want to store them. It works great for tbese 2. it's AMAZING what you don't have to have if you just stop and think. I'm working on both...STOPPIING and THINKING ....about A LOT of things. i use the Library ALL THE TIME.

@Cherokeeman I just throw it in with the other laundry I am not spending money constantly on paper goods they're going up but I feel like I'm saving if you don't think you would then don't do it I don't use paper plates anymore either they are really expensive and going up I haven't walked down the paper aisle and I don't know how long I do get toilet paper but I'm learning how to make my own laundry detergent also. I'm retired and I'm not going to go get another job just to pay for unnecessary things when I can cut them out I can work in my own home to save money

I like the idea of growing your own fruits and veggies but you can't do that if you live in a condo. Absolutely agree about cable. Waste of money. Haven't had it for years. Rosann Supino Know a lady at a senior complex in FL, made lots of spending money by making things to sell to ppl in her complex and the condos around the area. She made a killing on crocheting those poodles that go over a bottle, if you remember them? Turned out that the seniors loved things they remembered or owned back in the day. Look around. Talk to other seniors. Check out the senior centers. I used to make dolls, then discovered everybody wanted ethnic dolls and there weren't many around then, so I started doing those. Some young ppl wanted to garden but didn't know how so a neighborhood lady taught them and never again was without fresh vegetables. You probably know how to do many things. If you have a car you can ride other seniors for half what they pay Uber. Just define an area that would be profitable for you. One lady charges older ppl in her area a monthly fee to take them where they want to go. It is a small town and the ppl usually want to go to the grocery or doctor or church. As a bonus the seniors feel independent and their kids get a break from running them somewhere. Oops. Getting carried away here. Good luck. And remember, there are better and less expensive places to live, if not here then elsewhere!

I don't know if where you live they do this or not but where I live in Kentucky they do at your Public Library instead of going to rent movies are going to the Redbox you can get movies and rent them at the Library for free all brand new movies you can rent FOR FREE... it's not just old movies it's ones that are brand new that just came out that have been released to where you can buy movies instead of buying them you can go rent them.

In Houston, there are free shows at the outdoor theater in Hermann Park where you can see the top entertainers from singers to dance divas,to comedians to Shakespeare, etc all for free. If there is one thing in this world you can get plenty of for free (or almost free) it is entertainment.
I bought a vintage camper for $800, k fixed it up and live in it. I bought an HD antenna and watch TV for free. I eat vegetarian so now I spend $40 a week on groceries and eat like a queen. I go to Atwood's and buy my dogs vaccines give them myself to save money. I bought two lunch bags a big and small, I pack food and iced tea whenever I go somewhere. It's healthier and I don't have to buy fast food. I bought a portable washing machine and folding clothes dryer, now I don't have to go to the laundromat. My biggest two are this. I thank God for everything I receive and never complain. I give away what I don't use to someone I know in need, if someone likes something I have I will usually give it to them. Staying humble, grateful and generous seems to create things to come your way. When Jesus multiplied the loaves we learned when we share God provides sufficient.

12. Cut all veggies & meat on the Himalayan salt block for kill germ 🦠 no need wash block.

14. Use Binchotan charcoal for water filter. Sunny day dry them, for lifetime use. Also I’m the refrigerator for remove smells
15. Long hair, no cut. Once a week mayonnaise hair Treatments.
16. Grape seed oil facial massage. It won’t hurt eyes. As well as for cooking.
17. Solar outdoor lights by window. When I enter the room lights comes on. Long enough to finding things.
18. Glowing tapes on the steps, entrance & around switches. Also I use glowing stones indoor & outdoor.

20. Facial: use e.l.f. Products & pond moisture cream.
21. Use Cedar oil, cedar coat-hunger for bugs free

I am at 4:15. Just wanted to mention I suffer from anxiety so God forbid I drink coffee, whether it's at work, or even fill up a cup for free at home. So in total I should be spending 0 dollars on coffee annually. The silver lining of it all.

Yes! You shouldn't have to pay for food if you can grow it yourself. I did a video about saving money by growing your own produce aisle. You can pay $0.99 a pound for squash or you can pay $0.99 for a pack of seeds and eat all season long. Aye, nothing wrong with being a backyard farmer, lol. Great video!
Hi Bob, if I may, I think you should choose a different example for Acorns or any of the other change saving sites. If people are wanting to or needing to save their change, using Starbucks as an example, may not be the best choice (unless, of course you are getting paid for that subliminal message). However, spending $9.45 on a coffee at Starbucks, completely contradicts saving change. Just a thought.
