If you want a good one you gotta look hard but there is two versions of the engine for that car so it could be like 8k to 13k for a good one.

Hatch backs are a dying breed and it saddens the hell out of me to say that. People would rather have a crossover because of the perceived safety
Torp well yes, but you have to understand that Crossovers and SUVs run higher rosk of rollovers due to their height Centre of gravity which leads to more serious accidents

2008 Mazdaspeed 3 owner here. Hands down the most fun cheap car I've ever owned. Plus, you can fit a 65" TV in it.

I had a outback sport for less than 2 weeks. Apparently, a clean example with no rust in NYC is a big deal since I was getting offers almost every day to sell it. Long story short, I paid $1800 and sold it for $3200. 🤷♂️

I love the Subaru WRX wagons and the Focus ST/RS, myself. The AWD puts them right over the edge for me.

Im in Ireland ive 1 of only 3 mazda3 mps gen 1s in the country ,its 09 GT edition and its worth €10k+ all day long, my friend owns an 08 gen 1 he refused €8 k for it and the last 1 is 07 ,its for sale now at €7500,there's a handful of gen 2s here and don't fetch as much ,there's a mint 2010 mazda3 gen 2 for sale now for €8k,

In 2016 I got an ‘08 mazdaspeed 3 for 6,500 and thought I got a steal of a deal… three months after owning it, the engine blew up with a whole on the side of the block the size of a brick. Ah and the craziest part, it happened out of the blue… yeah there known for that, look it up… I got fomoco to thank for that 😒
At some point you need to include the mid to late 90s Volvo: 850 T5 or V70/S70/C70 T5 in one of your ideal lists. These cars are practical, fast , fun, cheap (less than $2000) to buy, cheapish to maintain and can be had with a 5-speed manual if you're willing to look hard enough.

Recommending a Honda Fit is the biggest heresy I ever witnessed on this channel.
I know it's been 3 years since you've said this, but a lot can change in 3 years. Give the fit another chance - it's got VTEC, it's mod friendly, and it's only 100-200 pounds heavier than a Miata. Put an air intake on it, headers, exhaust, upgrade spark plugs, redo the brakes, tune it, and highly recommend get the rear sway bar. You can get all that done for not much money too, and you got yourself a hot hatch with great gas mileage. Just imagine even 200-250 whp in a car that light, you'd have a mini rocket.
Honda fits are incredibly competitive in their stage rally class
I’ve got a 2014 Hyundai Accent hatchback ... nothing special but been very reliable and very good on gas. Fairly quick too.
Favorite hatchback under 5k would be the 2000- 2005 Mitubishi Eclipse. You can get it with a 200hp v6 too.

Mini, even when a ton of fun, it's seriously unreliable. The WRX, the Nazda 3 (you are NOT finding a Speed 3 for this price) Fiesta ST, the Fit and GTI are the best options. Add the Matrix and Soul if you don't mind their design.
3:30 it’s called a Mazdaspeed 3 not just a mazda 3 lol and having owned two of them they’re quick as FUCK. Faster than my STI hatch I owned a few years ago from a highway roll race the speed 3 easily eats WRX’s, GTI’s, and focus ST’s. Only think you’ll need to assure you don’t zoom zoom boom is upgraded fuel pump internals and a Cobb accessport v3, gat a tune from Freektune and full bolt ons. Btw you might wanna check the VVT chain before you buy one if it’s around 100k on the odometer. Just make sure you gat upgraded fuel pump internals before doing ANY performance mods on it

You guys are all forgetting about Fiat 500 ABARTH. This car is insanely fun especially for the money and is surprisingly more reliable than what people think. Even Jeremy Clarkson calls it the baby lamborghini.

it's funny bc i've actually seen that ad on craigslist many times. the car needs at least 4-5 grand to get it running and driveable again.

The Tech Loop i'm pretty sure it needed some major and transmission work and suspension work. mods were already done to the engine tho
The r53 Mini Cooper s is one of the greatest sounding and driving cars I’ve ever been in and you can pick one up in the U.K. for 2k if your lucky and with a few mods such as an induction kit bigger intercooler and a reduced pully you can push decent hp

The non hatch version of the Mazda 3 is very underrated and can price to be better than the hatch
My '03 Acura RSX Type-S. Not only is it 200HP (well when new...) it also gets great mileage when driven easy (my wife). Cost me well under $5000. Oh yeah, I can also get a dozen 8' 2x4s in it.
beware of the mazda speed 3s, check for rear quarter panel rust. If you live in a cold climate, the car was probably driven on salt infested roads. All it takes is one winter for the speed 3s to rust out, so be careful. I owned one, and I almost bought one that was winter driven until I checked for the rust.
I went to craigslist and i live where the car was posted and cant find that car anywhere. I live near Fontana speedway been looking for this car for a while but theres not one listed in that area under 15,000 - just saying

I got a 2009 mazdaspeed 3 and I love it. It is faster than I expected. It has a few mods. My wife's minivan gets better mileage. It feels like a mid 13 second car at worst.
The S in the ford fiesta is just for the body kit. Front bumper rear bumper spoiler wheels. Window tint. Exactly the same as zetec model with a different body kit..
This video didn't age well. All of these cars are sitting around 8-10k now.

Call me a purest but I like the Ford Fiesta. I like the price, it won't attract too much attention and with Ford you always know what your getting.
The shape his lights make when they reflect off of his eyes look cool. Like a halo in each eye.
I don't really understand why people hate on Brad so much, if he is happy here, I'm good, and to me it looks like he is a happy guy. I get it, he is the more frantic and animated guy of the hosts on this show, but just leave the man alone.
The Honda Fit was actually smaller then the Volkswagen Golf but quite a fun car for a goof around sometimes for Mazda it's just not enough power but yet the goofy grin design of it does makes it look kinda nice as for Subaru Impreza it's just the appreciation towards it just with the hassle of the EJ engine flaws
A great but hard one to find is the Volvo c30. Those are based off the old Eurospec focus rs with the same turbo five cylinder motor.

As a fellow mazdaspeed3 gen2 owner I say don’t buy it unless you are willing to spend 5k in replacing the worn out engines they have that 5/10 times fail and then the suspension always needs work
The 02-04 FORD SVT Focus. 170HP 145TQ and a 0-60 of 7.5 seconds and amazing handling only available in a 6 speed Getrag manual transmission

You aren't going to find one that is actually under 5k that isn't going to need a bunch of specialty out of production parts. As an SVTF owner, you don't want that car unless you are willing to scavenge for parts, or doing a lot of conversions.
Missed a huge one, the Volvo c30 can easily be had for under 5k and way better than half those on this list

R53 mini Cooper is your best bet. Buy one for 4k , put 2k into it and have a MONSTER in disguise..and btw, they're reliable n easy to work on ONLY the r53 nooooooot the r56 though

Everyone's sleeping on the xD. Yaris platform with a corolla engine and its considerably better looking than a yaris imo while being "swapped" with the bigger engine and brakes already. Pair that with a manual transmission and Toyota reliability, not too mention the novelty of owning an already died out brand, and it's the perfect daily go kart with some character.

Civic mate - more reliable, less problems to go wrong, cheap repairs, good part availability, should have good MPG too. Subaru are known for rally and blown head gaskets.

There are many things I disagree with in this video. #1 the Subaru is definitely not reliable and probably never will be. #2 the Mazda is generally going to cost about 10k or more so good luck with that. And #3 the fiesta s is probably the worst choice out of ford's line up. A better choice would have been the early 2000s focus svt as they had a 0 to 60 of 7.13 roughly and a quarter mile of 15.38 at 90.2
Turbos are prone to overheat, period. Some not as much as others, but they all do.

06 eclipse gt the motor is reliable but some of the inside parts are crap door handles braking off headliner falling down part of the dash coming up whin it's hot outside cd player.
The subie is no 🧢, best bang for your $ but don’t expect a rocket obviously. Im at 182k and still pulling strong. They’ll last till 300 if you dont beat it. And the ej253’s are a dime a dozen

I owned a 2002 subaru outback sport impreza it was loads of of fun . It was not a fast car but it always felt quick and peppy. I could drive it 85mph and only be around 3000 rpm 100 to 105 mph 4200 rpm. . It some how felt faster than it was. Plus living in Ohio I never had to worry in in any snow conditions even with all seasons tires on it. I miss that car so much 😢. Downside it comes with the 2.5i so now adding turbo because it will destroy the engine 😢
