40 years ago I almost bought one of those that was complete but derelict for years outside. I am really glad I didn’t as it was WAY to big a project for me. I am always happy to see one saved!👍🏼👍🏼
Fantastic! Have #2 running with a few minor issues... #1? As soon as you hit the mags and the engine kicked back, First thing that ran thru my head was it's advanced to far in the timing
Bill, when we had the ''light blade'' Hartzell's, we were checking the feathering at 1,200 rpm per Hartzell's instructions. When SMB's fleet got all the heavy blades installed, we still just checked the feathering at 1,200 rpm. No need to check feathering at any higher than 1,200 rpm on those props. Take the feathering buttons off and store them in case someone in the next century wants to put Ham Std's back on but I'd leave the Hartzell's on myself. Save 100 lbs plus no AD.
@@HangaRatz Right. When Beech did the Hartzell installation on the production line, the early E models usually got an addendum to the model number of '' -9700''. Since N13JC doesn't have this, it's obvious the prop installation was a field mod. Why the useless buttons and related hardware to the Ham Std's were still there is kind of a mystery to me. Thank you for all your hard work on JC and the rest of the team too. Monumental work so far.
I used to fly the Beech 18 for a company named Aero Taxi @KRFD it was a fun aircraft to fly. The 18 I flew did not have a tail wheel, it had the nose wheel verson
A C-45, commercial Beechcraft Model B-18 is NOT a bomber. It is a small transport aircraft that was used by the Air force, Navy and Marine Corps. The airplane they showed in the video is a Beechcraft Super B-18 and newer than the original Beechcraft B-18.
*Back in the mid-70s, there was a derelict B-18 laying in the grass, adjacent to the seaward runway at MCAS Iwakuni.* *Sure hated seeing that ol' bird rotting away when we taxied by in our C-117D's.* *SEMPER FI!*
Yah I sound like a dork but those that dont know & haven't been following won't understand..wuth such an EPIC rebirth you play for a clean start "Murphy" pokes his uninvited head in ..when ever HE wants. All in all... Handshakes & Hugs for a Job well done folks ❤
It's always been amazing to me that airplane guys, who must control Mixture, Manifold pressure, as well as timing and dual ignition systems, do not know or cannot seem to "hear" what the engines are asking for or trying to tell you when starting. That first engine the timing is too far advanced, and not enough fuel. Second engine was much closer, so it started.
back in 1975 i was flying one of those across the Gobi desert delivering it to company in China for the Inda government. halfway across the desert we lost all the electronics! i had to sit the old bird down on the sand. with no radio we were stuck! in about 2 hours a caravan of Kazakhs desert dwellers happened along. we were saved! the chief took one look at the old bird and was quiet taken with it! i speak some Mongolian, he told us that he would be glad to take us back to civilization if I would give him the old bird! well, I had no choice but to agree. so he sent for a team of camels to come pull the plane to his lair. on the trip across the desert on camel back I noticed the chiefs young daughter, she was a striking beauty! the chief noticed I had taken a liking to her. he felt bad about taking the plane so he told me that he was going to throw in the daughter on the trade! there was no way I could refuse because that would have been an insult! so I took a wife that day in the hot sand. when we got back to America, I got a job with an airline and my wife Altansarnai got pregnant. we soon had a girl; but the kid came out black! i am white! then she got pregnant again, this time she had twins, but something was funny, the twin girls looked a lot like my old flight engineer who was Chinese!! I had noticed he kept in close contact! mostly with Altansarnai! then she got pregnant again! but this time the kid looked black again! and a lot like my co-pilot on the airline I was working for! so I started to drink heavily! then I wrecked the DC 10 I was flying on the runway into a parked 747, I was hog drunk out of my mind! I was fired. so, I took a job at a small airport cleaning out hangers, it was a sad thing. I lost my home and had to move into an old c54 parked on and old abandoned runway at the airport that I work at. the wife's dad gave us a camel and a few goats for food. the girls all got married and then all of them with their no-good husbands moved into our plane home with us! I became so depressed that I am a full time drunk! as I type this, I am looking for a rope to throw over one of the propellers of the c54 and end it all! I HAVE HAD IT!
They weren't. "Hollywood Bomber" is the name this old Beech has acquired during the restoration process, due to one of the previous owners and all the stars he flew on this plane.
#1 acts like a engine trying to start with the timing off just a little bit but I am no radial enine expert by any means the starter sounds funny also.....just a thought.
Sweet music..🇺🇸🇺🇸 Mag timing at worst… The real value of this is everyone working together as true blue brothers and 2nd Trump election…BLESS US ALL…If we ever meet in person….I’ll fill yer tanks complimentary of US Dept of Defense….Major General Bryan Maxwell. USMC ( C-JCOS / HMX-1 )…Retired…🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I think I know who may have flubbed that…🤦
Good to see an old TA-75 tow tractor (apparently now diesel) still in use.
Congratulations Bill & Team! Great to see #2 running! #1 will come soon, I have no doubts! Y'all have hit a great milestone!
Thanks!

Part of the 9700# upgrade are the Hartzells….

Thanks! It's been a long road!
After 10 years, 1 out of 2 engine starts is FABULOUS! 👏👏♥♥♥♥ Congratulations 🙂
We're getting there, slow and steady...!
Fire truck sitting there kinda shakes my faith! 985's are so easy to start!
Belts and braces!
Congratulations, what a huge step!
Thank you!
Congrats, Bill. #2 sounded great. #1 will get there. Looking forward to seeing that. Also Looking forward to seeing ours run.
It's a slow process, but we're getting there!
Fuel tanks from hell! No Shite! As I said before, Mike is a gem! This is exciting.
getting closer...
Congrats! You'll have the second running in no time!
We are getting there!
I would have tried starting # 1 on just one mag then the other to find out which mag was out of time!
I dont know about Aircraft Engines, but on car engines, when they kick back like thar, it means the timings too advanced.
Way way too much….
No it’s because he rushes the checks and doesn’t try with any throttle on or choke if you like.
A totally perfect position for a test run. Directly heading to the sun, so that the guys hardly can read the gauges and find the switches......😮😊
Our guy on the crew was supposed to coordinate the sun and the wind. He's fired!...

Not enough fuel!
Good grief.. I slammed on the binders when I hear Bamboo Bomber start-up Im glued..now ❤😂❤😂
Bamboo Bomber? You’re killin’ me Smalls!…
I think every plane needs a pre oiler!
Heck yeah!
Looks like a timing issue with No.1
Oh yeah...
We were there late Friday and totally missed it. =(
Possibly Dec 14 for another try...
Don't add power as it might go on it's nose ! Without the wings on it is VERY nose heavy !
We had sandbags on the tail!
Trimming is off a bit on #1. Trying to backfire.

That is a great story!
I didn’t know these were ever used as bombers.
They weren't. "Hollywood Bomber" is the name this old Beech has acquired during the restoration process, due to one of the previous owners and all the stars he flew on this plane.
Bomber trainers in some variants
Bomber ? I guess I missed something
No prop pulling?
We pulled the props through before we moved it.

You just blew an intake gasket on # 2 eng
mag timing
Timing
Yupper!
😂😂
darn sure not a Bamboo bomber it is a beech 18.
Yupper!

Too much timing on No. 1
