I met a guy surfing in town yesterday that lost his home and everything in Lahaina. The government has done little to nothing to help him or his family. These links you guys are sharing are what is really helping these families get back on their feet, because the government has pretty much turned their back on the whole situation. So sad. Epic podcast, really enjoyable to listen too. Yeeewww 🤙🏼
The government doesn't provide new homes or anything. That's what home insurance is supposed to be for. The government basically provides short term emergency support. Like shelters and stuff. I'm not sure what you were expecting. Government funding is basically tax payers. Do you want to pay to rebuild everyone's home by substantially increasing your taxes? My neighborhood in northern CA burned to the ground a few years back. If you don't have good insurance you might as well forget about it. By the way, if he's out surfing it doesn't sound like he's doing much to "help his family" either.

"government has pretty much turned their back on the whole situation" Seems these are quite broad statements with no data or reference. I've scanned the local papers and it is filled with stories about how gov is working to clean the area so residents can return. What seems irresponsible are the crazy conspiracies. When a town is completely destroyed it becomes a toxic dump. I just saw a story about how they are still doing intensive cleaning of the Harbor. An irresponsible local gov that did not care about the people that elected them would open up the toxic dump and allow residents to harm themselves. All of these local, state and federal operations are standard operating procedure in an extremely devastating disaster. I'm sure many mistakes were made, but I find the ease of these conspiracies depressing when the truth is right in front of us.
