What sets Fontaines DC above so many of their contemporaries, apart from their brilliant music and the poetic Irishness of their lyrics, is their consistent evolution and experimentation as a band. Each album has a new sound. I've seen them live 6 times now, most recently at Glastonbury where they had the swagger and confidence of a really big band that knows it. Best newly formed band since the 2010's for me.

I second that! Mixed Up Everything is a band of 4 hunky brothers with Aussie alt-rock-grunge beach bum vibes (you’ll understand when you see their long beach blond hair flapping in the wind, their topless tans, and lots of amazing music played by the beach). MUE just released original songs that are an EPIC throwback to amazing 90’s bands I loved growing up and still love at 43. Their covers are also brilliant and honor the originals with their own flair.
Please cover Mixed Up Everythjng, Justin! They deserve to be featured. These brothers clearly have worked very have clearly worked very hard to get to where they’re at now if you look at their oldest TH-cam videos when they were busking at a much younger age to hone their craft. Please give them the full Justin Hawkins Rides Again Treatment! Tyvm!

Justin, I just discovered you when you reviewed Starburster as I am a huge fan of Fontaines DC.
I’m an American, and I’m sorry to say The Darkness hadn’t reached my ears until recently. My (British) beau, himself a musician (and a friend of the dad of The Darkness’s drummer) told me about you, so I’ve been devouring your interviews. We’ve been watching your interviews, disquisitions, and deconstructions, and are thoroughly enjoying them and yourself. Your erudition! Your humour! Your cheekiness! Your knowledge of musical theory, your stellar guitar playing (not to mention those 5 little octaves) are brilliant! Thoroughly enjoying you, sir, and I hope you continue your TH-cam shows, as they are thoroughly enjoyable! Cheers!

Bonjour Justin! I am a massive fan of Fontaines DC. And as an Irish Madame born in 1972 now living in the south of France....I was a huge Cure fan and Smiths fan...but more The Fall. Anyway, back to Favourite...it's not like their usual stuff. Personally I can't listen to it. Way too sentimental. But this is what makes them probably the best band in the world right now. They can write that...and then Death Kink or Starbuster....Television Mind...Hurricane Laughter. I think they wrote Favourite as a sort of personal gratitude and homage to their roots and families.

Should check out modal fabric jim-jams for extra soft shut-eye at night. Imagine a modal catsuit for the stage too, would be softer than a cherub's undercarriage. 'Favourite' by Fontaines D.C. reminds me of the guitar riff on 'Just Like Heaven' by The Cure rather than The Smiths. Grian Chatten sports a shag hairdo rather than the Morrissey quiff, has a higher-pitched voice and less poetic lyrics, so definitely not the full Morrissey. Lyrically, 'Favourite' seems to explore the traumatic challenges Chatten has faced growing older, hence the kid in the video. Growing older is inevitable, but wearing itchy jim-jams can certainly be avoided.

Actually you'd be better off talking about them than me. Just in case you missed it... PS really enjoy your stuff.Cheers.

Hi Justin! I wonder if you'd consider doing a piece on bands from the east of England? I've been to a couple of local shows recently as well as the Red Rooster festival and am happy to report that there is some serious talent in the area!

    Viera and the Silvers

    Thank you kindly, Ip

Is that the YSL ensemble from the NYC gig last year? I can’t imagine it being soft enough for sleep.
If it’s chilly, a thinnish cashmere is nice. If it’s not chilly, silk is the most comfy.
Thank you for the name of the brand of the shirt that I love. I still haven’t found it. Was it made for you or off the rack?
You’re looking rather young and healthy today (well rested?).
