  • No other university choir in the country has the reputation of the Jubilee Singers at Fisk University in Nashville. Their success comes not only from a commitment to vocal perfection in every performance, but also from the richness of their heritage.
Creative License follows the history of this amazing vocal group, from its post-Civil War days when the singers entertained both presidents and queens, through decades of segregation and racism, to its powerful present day performances of moving, timeless songs.
Since Dr. Paul Kwami has been director, the Jubilee Singers have been honored with Dove and Grammy Awards and even inducted in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. To learn more about this incredible group of performers, tune in to their website at www.fiskjubilee...

I am a proud Fisk Jubilee Singer, class of 1972. How fortunate I was to attend Fisk University and be selected to be in this historic musical ensemble. I am indeed BLESSED.

I currently teach English in China. I'm using this video in a special class that will be all about the Fisk Jubilee Singers. I'm also teaching a kind of online group of over 900 students about them. The Jubilee Singers are continuing to break barriers they may not even be aware of. A lot of Chinese people misunderstand African Americans and Black people in general. There is a lot of racism here. The good news is that there is also a lot of curiosity and open mindedness. They really want to understand what they see from western media, which we all know is very biased and white-washed. I see it as part of my duty as a native Nashvillian and as a conscientious person of privilege to spread the word about the amazing Black people who are my neighbors, friends, teachers, doctors, leaders, and loved ones... several of whom I know are Fisk graduates. All my love to Fisk!!!!

I first heard the Fisk Jubilee Singers when I was twelve years old. It was at the graduation when my sister received her degree. I later attended Fisk and graduated in 1956. My roommate was a Jubilee singer! Thank you for this rendition!
