I've got a husky named Paavo, when I'm training distance, like for a half marathon or something, he'll come out with me, I'll bang out 10 miles and be absolutely gassed, and ole Paavo looks at me like "why the hell did we stop?" Such a phenomenal innovator in distance running, and a national hero in Suomi. He was a topic of conversation with my 1st generation Finnish grandfather, he'd be hooping and hollering about Nurmi during Olympic years, we loved to watch the distance runs. We were big fans of Viren and Prefontaine, and we loved watching the Kenyans catch fire in the sport. That altitude training is no joke, it's the next generation of innovation.
Already, being a bitter person, Nurmi became a more bitter after Sweden pressured the International Olympic Committee and declaring Nurmi as a professional runner and thus Nurmi considered as a professional runner, not having the qualification for the 1932 Summer Olympic Games. Nurmi watched closely, in present with the audience, while his country-man, Lehtinen won the Gold Medal for Finland in Los Angeles. After LA, Nurmi became a coach for the Finnish distance runners. In 1936, Berlin, Nurmi's runners won for example a triple-win at 10 000 meters and a double-win at 5 000 meters. In 1952 and Helsinki hosting the Summer Games, Nurmi was still so disappointed for the Olympic Committee decision 20 years earlier that he nearly refused carrying and flaming the Olympic Flame at Helsinki. It was kept as a hidden matter, and while Nurmi appeared, carrying the Olympic Torch at the Helsinki Stadium, the audience were emotionally affected crying in loud.
The old "amateur" status of athletes really screwed so many people in the early years. I know Steve Prefontaine was a trailblazer in going after the American AAU, and how they'd limit their competition, thereby hamstringing their preparation for the Olympics. He'd set up independent meets on his own, bringing a lot of the Finnish throwers and distance runners all the way to Eugene around the time of his death. He stood up for American Olympic hopefuls and their needs to be their very best.
The greatest middle distance runner ever.
Greatest long distance runner ever .
Not really, it just so happened black athletes were prejudiced from the games

Oikeesti mitä vittua!?
What is the correct translation?
@@PotemkinDogs1 Hard to say. He begins: "My view was...", but after that we'd need someone able to read lips.
