I would be happy with pretty much any one of the pickups demo'd! The differences between them are pretty subtle. Thanks for putting this consolidated video of the different pickups; great job!
@@argbluesmanalmost always find pickups and electronics in fender or gibsons lacking Fat 50s, twisted tele, custom 54s are great I have the ron ellis 50/60s in a ri 60. Magnificent. These are all top choices.
Thanks for the demo. Great playing, some very tasty lines in there, a touch of Gilmouresque feel too. The Ron Ellis for me, subtle differences but it scoops the most and has tamed tops.
Firstly thanks for taking the time to put these vids together, I know it takes a lot of effort. I think the Ron Ellis have the “purist” tone if there was such a thing. They have the clarity and sustain in the neck that the others don’t have. Ron Ellis’s also have a little more scooped mids, fullness in the lows and smoother highs and a better consistency across the fretboard, from low E to high E. Also when I’ve seen and heard them in your other videos, I’ve noticed the high mids are not as harsh as other pickups, yet they still cut through nicely. I know these are just the neck positions in this video. But I’ve done a comparison between the RE and Kloppmann 62 from your other videos and the RE seem to have a little more depth to their tone, and have more musicality to me. The RE sound the closest to the real thing as well. They seem to speak to me in this recording the most too, followed closely by the kloppmann Real 62. KR62 are the next best thing though if you can’t afford the Ron Ellis pickups IMO.
Thanks for your comment man! Indeed I agree with you. I also made this video as a blind test. Same audio. On a guitar forum from Latin America. Everyone picked the same Ron Ellis pickup. Well not everyone but most voted for it. The second close contender was the Brandonwound!
No problem. Yes I do like the brandonwound pickups as well. But as you say those Rob Ellis pups seem to have something that the others don’t. I’m not surprised that the blind test worked out that way.
I was listening to all your demos and now to this comparison. First of all I want to express my gratitude to you for all the effort and meticulous care you put into these. Wonderful job! As a listener I have to say that listening to these via TH-cam and fairly good headset I was not able to discern too many differences. You could easily move one knob or the other on the amp's tonestack and fool me that it was a change of pickups. Which is to say that they all sounded marvellous to me --- perhaps the dominant factor here was the amp itself. It is tempting to ask you to add some really basic/crappy pickup to the list to emphasize some contrasting qualities, but my guess is that even then differences would be subtle. Probably you would feel the most under your fingers and in the room with speakers thumping your chest. Happy times and delicious experience. Thank you again!
Thanks for your comment! As I explain in the description of this video, the objective was exactly that: to show that all renowned pickups are good. Nowadays the internet is full of (mis)information and a lot of marketing, and people claim that certain things are "magical" or "10 times better" than those of their competitors. In terms of pickups, there is big discussion out there of people claiming that some of them are just SO MUCH better than the rest... and that, for me, is simply not true. Pickups aren't rocket science. All of the renowned winders make great pickups, and tone DOES NOT lie on the pickups, but ON US and on the sum of everything else. I am sure that most people would not be able to tell much if I didn't put the brand of the pickups. In fact I posted this video, without brands, to another site, and people liked the last one a lot... the last one being the cheapest of all. Thank you again for your comment!
This is why I never even considered changing the pups in my Amer deluxe plus Strat. The 3 color L Senors are diverse enough and if I cant get it out of my fingers now after 40 yrs of playing 27 with this guitar then just put down and do something else. Changing pups ,string gauges, or anything else as an excuse would just be a waste of money time and energy. Live with it and make it work.
Great licks and very appropriate for comparison purposes. I kept going back to the Ron Ellis pick ups, and they just sounded rounder and may be a touch more compressed. Anyway, I’d go with them for sure. Thanks 🙏
I like the Ron Ellis pickups and I think those brandonwound (never heard of them) sounds very similar… but every pickup sounds awesome… minimal differences
Agreed! There isn't a night and day difference like many people try to "sell" us! They are all great. It's a matter of pairing them with the right guitar, since they'll be different in one guitar and on another.
To me the Epic 62 had that 60’s vibe. A bit more bottom end bite and fullness. The highs were close to all the pickups. But you could make a shitty ceramic sound good through a 6000.0 head. 😂
Great playing, great tones- only complaint/critique is this: man would it kill you to play ONE CHORD? One passage with some strums of CHORDS? All lead single lines, ok, great but some rhythm would be nice.
Well, this is a backing track. It didn’t make much sense to me to play the chords on the progression. But I have implemented chords on my no talking demos of gear 👍 thanks!
i like Ron Ellis neck, scoopy…and Klein 62 (sweetest) of the bunch..kloppmann st60 sounds about the same with Klein 61..good, but not special. Kloppmann st62 sounds a bit dull…heard nothing vintage from brandonwound IMO..
@@aizat3736 it’s probably a bit to overwound for your taste. You would probably find a true vintage Strat with even more winds. They’re all different it doesn’t make anyone of them less vintage.

Strings sound different
Guitars sound different
I'll take your word for it that you have good hands but maybe you got bad ears
Kloppmann 60s are my fav… I think they have just the right amount of air & fundamental note… great job… which are your favorite….
Honestly I can live with any of them. They’re all great!!
Great licks and very appropriate for comparison purposes.

I have Klein 57s and love them. Their price is MUCH more accessible than than the Ron Ellis sets.

The gear is listed in the description. Thanks!
Which was your favourite?
I sound the same with any of them… I am happy with any of them really. But I was really surprised by the brandonwoind. Amazing set overall.
They sounds very similar... 😉
The player is very tasty and good vibes , congratulations Mister ! 👍
Thank you very much!

All of them great. I put a chinese Fleor A5 pickups in my cheap strat copy. That’s great too :) 🤷♂️

I’m a firm believer that the amp is the most important piece of gear in our rig!
klien 61 👍
You tried the Seymour Duncan scooped set yet ?
No, never tried it.
Great job...I have a Real 62 on my old strat with a maple neck/alder body...what experiences do you have with a maple neck instead of rosewood?
I’ve used Klein pickups on maple boards. And also Ron Ellis 50/60 which I liked very much with maple. And then the good old fat 50s.
@@argbluesman Thanks man...I like a lot Ron Elis 50/60 on your guitar......maybe I should try... Pozdrav!!
Excelente video. En mi humilde opinión, las diferencias son sutiles, todos los micrófonos son de gran nivel y una buena elección.👏👏👏
Totalmente de acuerdo! Son todos excelentes! 👍
Is it just me or did the Ron Ellis seem a bit looser on the low end than the others?
It could be. Yes.
Proof the tone is on fingers and amp mainly
Agreed. The amp is the most important part of the rig without a doubt in my opinion!
