I love this and as a wedding photographer this would enhance my business portfolio and bring in new clients......I just love making people love themselves MORE in photos
Amazing results. Though I notice it wasn't completely hard lighting. There was some soft transitions with the shadows on the skin which I liked. What sort of modifier was used to achieve that? The only modifier I took note of during the shoot was the reflector. I guess I missed an important detail somewhere in the video.
Pye - you are one of the best photographers out there! You defiantly are my inspiration! I hope some day i will be so god photographer as you are right now!
Thanks so much Pye. I got my first engagement photoshoot to do this year and I need some tips. I'm using multiple speedlights tho and your video was very helpful. I've been lurking your vids quite some time and enjoyed all your videos. Thanks again.
So I just opened this video, 10 seconds later, I couldn´t resist to push the subscribe button, good job man! thanks for the good tutorial, cheers from Mexico!
Wow, am impressed. The knowledge there in, is still great a few years down the line. My question is, in scene 2 when taking the play shots, you did not shoot on a tripod. Must you shoot on a tripod, to get the exact same shot positioning ?
Question: In the 3rd picture (backlit), it seems as though couple had a small key light on them as well. They are far too well-lit from the front for that ambient exposure. Was a key light used? Or was their illumination because of the backlight bouncing off the rock face to the right of the frame?
On the last shot with lighthouse (flash behind subject) where did the light in front come from? I mean why isn't the subject silhouette? Did the light bounce from the rock illuminating the subject ?
I'm at a loss here... I get the theory, you combine 2 images...So the first step I understand, you expose without flash for the ambient light, but for the second shot with added light, which settings for flash do you dial in? This isn't TTL anymore? For the 2nd shot you keep you camera settings the same as the first? How do you dial in the correct values for flash? I'm using a speed light.
I was once fined $100 for shooting at that same beach location (Victoria Beach) with 2 models, 2 MUA's. I'd shot there 2 times before with models, with no problem. It's a hard area to get to, no parking really, 50 steps straight down, no bathrooms. Ha! But beautiful area! Great video! Nice effects!
In the last shoot, where you placed b2 behind the couple, did you use another flash in front, or did you raised exposure in post processing just on the couple? Also, what kind of metering did you use in that last shot? Thanks
Enjoyed the video! However, I wish you would have explained in the 3 scenarios where exactly you were metering and also, how you determined what to set the flashes at. The video then becomes a very instructional video leaving anyone excited to try something new rather than just an explanation of the type of light used. Thanks. (Maybe you could comment on where you took your light meter reading.)
i agree... but dont forget this is also a commercial for the product which they probably get for free... I too want to duplicate this but i can only do with my speed lights

Hey Pye! Question did you spray water on yoir uv filter or something to get that awesome shot at 7:19?
Did u use wide angle lens sir ?
love this!
do you think a beginner photographer can create these images with a camera like Nikon d3400? or less expensive cameras
Zhanna Shulyak yes ,but you need powerful lights and some skills in post processing...
Zhanna Shulyak the dynamic range won't be the same but you can get close results... try buying a Sony A6000.. it's cheap... yet good for pro use
Sweet. I use the flashpoint 360s and the Cheetahstand 600. Now I have a new technique to try out.

On the last shot with lighthouse (flash behind subject) where did the light in front come from? I mean why isn't the subject silhouette? Did the light bounce from the rock illuminating the subject ?

Hi Pye,
With the 3rd image, you set the camera to the ambient light but what setting did you use on the B2 behind the couple please?
+Martin Bulmer It was set at a fairly low power given the distance from the subject. Probably around 20-30% power.
Great Tutorial. I truly enjoyed it! Lots of awesome information and very creative. I appreciate it, please continue to make more.
your an amazing instructor..

In the last shoot, where you placed b2 behind the couple, did you use another flash in front, or did you raised exposure in post processing just on the couple? Also, what kind of metering did you use in that last shot? Thanks
Good question. Perhaps there was enough reflective off the rocks? Hmm.

Wish they did a segments with lights with a lower price range... how many of us can afford $2k lights?
Paul Buff Alien Bees bro! $369.00. Portable power pack, $500
Check out Adorama flashpoint xplor 600, Cheaper, more power but slower recycle time. :~)
Yeah.. bought a pretty amazing strobe for like $200. And though I have to shoot 1/1, I adjust by changing the distance and modifier.
i agree... but dont forget this is also a commercial for the product which they probably get for free... I too want to duplicate this but i can only do with my speed lights
