That's the problem, Believer, most Theists tends to look at Atheists in terms of a religion, which is why they can't figure out where they stand. But Atheism isn't a religion, it's not an ideology, there are not scriptures. You are just not convinced that any gods exists. That is all. Whatever else an Atheist does or doesn't believe in is completely seperate.
The rough part is when they somehow think that atheism has a leader or a Jesus, which is weird. Theists spend their lives bowing down, following, boot licking and looking for guidance, and they can't understand that other people don't do that.
It's a big reason why they think quotes from atheists are somehow like scriptures or atheist doctrine we're all supposed to follow. Or how they'll claim all atheists should follow some certain philosophical thought process.

The surest sign that someone is going to say really fucking offensive is if they say "no offense, but," and then say that really fucking offensive thing immediately after. Works with any preface, like "I don't mean to be insulting, but...," "I'm not racist, but...," "I'm not homophobic, but...," and so on. I’m almost 70, I had an older brother who was born gay. I was born an atheist and I never believed. I was baptized and circumcised when I was too young to say no, I was sent to a Southern Baptist church when I was 10 or 11. I thought that the people there were insane. Screaming, crying Baptists appeared that way to me. I quit going. I’ve never bought in. When I was a teenager many of my friends were Catholic and we dropped acid once and attended Midnight Mass on Christmas. This was when they still did mass in Latin. That was when I experienced Catholic insanity. I’m a lifelong atheist and I will die an atheist.
Many Catholic churches still have Latin/traditional mass as an option. I'm an atheist, but a couple years ago I visited a friend of mine who lives in another state. She is Catholic and took me to her church for a Latin mass. I obviously didn't believe any of it, but it was a very unique experience, especially since I really like the Latin language.
My problem is with such a small study is there results are questionable. Plus it doesn't say how many of the atheists were ex believers, which would skew any result.
I've never believed in some invisible BFF and was always confused how people can believe in some invisible creature without evidence of any kind. When i was a teenager some friends asked me to go to church with them. I agreed to go and experienced a bunch of people sitting listening to some guy reading from the bible and explaining what the words meant he was reading. They also kept passing around a bucket asking for money and complaining people were not being generous enough and the bucket would come around again! Never went back or tried a different church. As I have grown older and wiser I am still confused as to why people my age still believe in this fairy tale book!
Thank you Dave for calling out believers biases directly. Believer showed his lack of compassion or empathy, a lack of understanding how those diseases work, and a lack of understanding at how it doesn’t say anything about an actual gods existence.

While supernatural belief is rampant in my country no one really actively attends church nor do they speak publicly about religion. So sad and strange that this is the situation in a secular country. I live in the UK, technically a Christian country, yet it is more likely to be the other way around here, with people hiding their religious views for fear of ridicule! I have no idea what many of my friends religious beliefs are because it’s a personal view and doesn’t matter. Many of those who attend religious ceremonies in the UK do so for cultural and social reasons rather than actually believing. Children in the UK are far more likely to ask if Thiests are actually real! Imagine one day your parents tell you that much of what you have learned in school is wrong and there is actually an invisible thing in the sky that made and controls everything, there is no evidence for this but we know because of an old book of anonymous folk tales which is better for some unknown reason than the many other ancient books of folk tales that adults around the world kill each other over. I’ve just read the paper on the study in Finland that this caller is so excited about: it’s called “Atheists Become Emotionally Aroused When Daring God to Do Terrible Things” and a pdf version is available on Researchgate. You won’t be surprised to learn that (a) the caller is just repeating what other apologists have said, and often repeated, about it, and (b) they have completely misrepresented its conclusions. The point of the study was to test the extent to which the tendency towards religiosity is genetically programmed into us through evolution, not to determine whether atheists really exist. The authors acknowledged that it was far too small a sample to draw any firm conclusions, but posited four possible explanations for what they found, not one of which was that atheists aren’t real. Their possible explanations were: 1. Atheists’ explicit beliefs may differ from implicit reactions outside of conscious awareness, that is, religiosity is genetic and present in everyone. 2. Atheists may have trouble being disrespectful about “god” because their friends and family take god seriously. 3. Appealing to god at all might have been absurd or aversive to atheists. 4. The participants in the study had grown up in a largely theistic society, and may even have been former believers themselves, so would have been exposed to significant social influences about what it was ok to say about “god” and how one should feel when saying it.

A Theist friend said that in order to reject the idea of a God, I have to study and learn as much as I can about that God. I asked him how much time he spent studying Zeus.
The God of the Bible is the one true God and Jesus is the only one God the Father has ever raised from the dead. When you reverse finite nature (time/space/matter) all the way back to non-existence, you have “NOTHING” in regards to finite nature (time/space/matter). The “infinite density” of the big bang can’t exist, BECAUSE INFINITE CAN’T EXIST IN THE FINITE. And since the needy finite exists and can’t self-create, it had to be created IN IT’S BEGINNING by a non-created “non-needy” infinite G0D/prime mover/uncaused first cause. The universe is not eternal, so there MUST be something outside that is. Being that time/space/matter was created, their cause has to be outside time/space/matter and thus the creator is timeless, spaceless and immaterial. We know G0D is a person, because he created persons, an impersonal force can’t make a choice. Only a person can make a choice, and choices by G0D were made. Now we need to discuss the actual RATIONAL POSSIBLE cause for creation: The God of the Bible is the one true God and Jesus is the only one God the Father has ever raised from the dead. There can only be one infinite being: 1. An infinite being lacks nothing. 2. For 2 beings to differ, one has to lack something the other has. 3. A being that lacks something, is not infinite. 4. Therefore, there can only be one infinite being. 5. An ultimate being has no potential, because the potential is maxed out. Therefore, it’s a contradiction to say there can or should be more than one infinite being. That would erroneously state that a finite being is not maxed out potential and another one is needed to reach full potential.
6. To say this infinite being is the Christian G0D, we go into the historical evidence of Jesus and his Word. It is patently obvious there can only be one supernatural first cause/prime mover/God.
If there really was an all powerful all knowing g0d that loved me and wanted me to know he was real, then that g0d would simply do an Exodus 12:29 on NEPPY to stop him from convincing me that g0d cannot possibly exist. Ergo, the existence of NEPPY posting on this channel is 100% proof that the g0d of the bible does not exist.
@@jamespowers5951 Repeat after me: there is no such thing as god in reality. The British are on the whole less religious, I myself didn't know anyone that goes to church.
"When I look at the media I can see that they're not telling us the full picture", how would you ever see that just by looking at the media? You can only see what they present, for everything else you need outside information, if you had outside information you could just talk about that, so that is basically admitting that the only thing that you have to show your position on this is personal biases: "I think the story is wrong and there is more to it, therefore they aren't showing everything"

I don't accept that people are predisposed towards a god belief, I think that's an over reach. What I think we DO have is a tendency to anthropomorphize. In fact, I'd say that's self evident, because we anthropomorphize everything from animals to inanimate objects and assign agency where none exists (I think every human being alive has, at some point, stubbed their toe on a table and gotten mad the table! As it the table did something to you. Or begged a piece of electrical equipment to work as if it could somehow hear our pleas). And when we anthropomorphize the natural world and don't think too critically about doing so, THAT'S what leads to god beliefs.
@@nealjroberts4050 Frankly, you don't even need to go that deep. Two prehistoric humans are walking through a forest. They hear a rustling in the bush. One of those humans is predisposed to assign agency to that rustling and assume it's something that could harm them. He runs away. One of them has no such predisposition, he doesn't assign any agency to the rustling. And maybe he's fine. Or maybe the rustling is a leopard, and he's dead. There IS a selective advantage to our tendency to assume agency where none may in fact exists. We just have to be careful about applying it too broadly.

Yep that's a pretty reasonable description of the UK and other civilized countries.
"Catholic insanity" is a really metal way of describing it, lol!

Incel caller says incel thing.
Their possible explanations were:

There can only be one infinite being:

Add in the fact that most of our environment is other agencies and you can see how an instinct to assume agency can be useful or at least persist.
At the end of the day humans are animals too, it annoys me just as much when people pretend they are somehow special or unique and try to deny that humans are one of the millions of animal species that inhabit the earth.

I was going to bring it out when someone replied to my post 😆
@@seraphinaaizen6278 And that is why sticks have become the go to for humans for over a million years. (I carry a stick...if bushes rustle I do poke the bushes). Sticks are the root of civilization, not magical thingamabobs.

Thanks, now I'll probably have nightmares for weeks 😂😂😂
This caller is insane
Atheism is the default position. If you don't teach an infant about gods, will he know anything about a god? Being a non-believer is naturally the way people would be.
They're already going to hell for eternity, isn't cursing them to sickness as well, a little egregious?
LMFAO, sarcasm, right? I'm not worried about the boogeymen that live in people's heads.
It does feel somewhat excessive.
Hateful, even. But "God is love", I'm assured by the theists.
@@OceanusHelios 😀 Yes, sarcasm.
Most Christians are trinitarian and therefore believe in 3 gods.
Are atheists real?
Well i exist and I've never believed in god thingies.
Wait till he finds out an atheist cannot exist without a believer.
@@888PsyMike888O, myself wife and I had a fun conversation about this last week. I asked her, "Are our children atheists?"
We concluded that while the word's definition fits, the fact that they have no concept of theism precludes them from being atheists.
Literal lifelong atheist here. It's all mythology, dude. I'm sorry you still believe in Santa Claus, but that's on you, not me.
14:10 - that Silence is golden. KO!
For the information of any of those unfamilar with him, the troll 'Tim Wallis' is a convicted fraudster who has posted here under severel names. His demented style, however, is unmistakable, especially since he spams the same exact talking points over and over again.
The fastest way to get him to shut up and run away is to challenge him to a debate. Works every time.
Shhhh... don't tell anyone about him going to prison for committing fraud... and going to prison at a different time for committing racketeering. That would make it hard for him to keep pretending that he's a millionaire retired medical doctor.
He's also posting under "Dr James Powers", a "medical surgeon" who claimed that if your teeth are removed, you DIE, and who didn't know that a stomach can be successfully surgically removed (he thought that you would DIE because the two "pipes" no longer join up)! 🤦🤣🤣🤣
@@TheistsTapOutnot just a "medical doctor", but a "medical surgeon"!
I guess that when he told people that he was a "surgeon", they must have kept assuming that he was arborist! 😂

Forrest is just going through an awkward phase. 😂😂😂
No doubt. It reminded me of the first time I thought a plump lady was hot.
It always amazes me how twisted peoples minds are, no wonder religions focus on destroying other religions, it makes people into what they believe before being humans.
Raised as athiest and can say i'm defnitely not a believer in their imaginary friend nor am I an "Edgy" teenager
Wow, he doesn’t even realize that he’s a terrible person. How embarrassing !!!
If you're just going to assume the person you're talking to is a liar (even if you think they're just lying to themselves,) then why even bother? For the record, I may not be an expert on much, but I've been with me 24/7 for almost 59 years now, and I'm quite certain I've never believed in a god,, or had some inner sense of one. If someone wants to contradict that claim, be my guest, but all you'd be doing is wasting your time, and telling me you have no idea what you're talking about.
It's the posters who deliberately come on in order to rant about their assumptions that atheists and nonbelievers are liars.
Are theists real and are they truthful about that? It can go both ways theists.
This is a good point. I often wonder if anyone actually believes in a god or if they are just afraid of the negative social consequences of being an atheist.
A lot of Theists only pretend to believe because of peer pressure.
I'm a theist. Certain other theists call me a lying atheist because I tend to criticise their unsubstantiated assertions.
@@nealjroberts4050you're on your way
@@nealjroberts4050yes I've seen you criticise other theists in the comment sections, while I don't share your belief you come across as fairly genuine amd honest.
I sympathise with the caller to a degree about being unsure of the mindset of others. It is completely absurd to me to know that billions of adult human beings believe in mythological nonsense. It genuinely befuddles me.
So I could see why someone who does believe would find someone who doesn’t to be strange.
That vile propaganda about hiv being an exclusively lgbt disease however, that’s a sign that you left your right wing echo chamber door open.
It is not true that if you are raised in a secular society that you will be more inclined to have faith.
My ex was raised in Norway, in a town so secular that the one church had long since closed and he had never even met someone had, at some point, been a believer until he met me, when he was 17. Not only was not inclined to have faith as the concept was baffling to him.
He genuinely did not believe people in the West could actually have faith in god. I had to explain it to him and it still did not make much- if any- headway.
Now, he is just a case but his peers were all atheists.
are you still a Believer?
@@wwlib5390 No. Nor was I at the time.
But I was raised Catholic. Never cared for it for one bit but I was a misotheist as a child. Haven’t believed in god since the 5th grade.
There was no way my ex would have dated a believer, too.
@Nocturnalux oh, I misunderstood - I appreciate your honesty. Being raised Catholic or in any other faith is not an automatic "I'm a believer." Not all those who attend church are. For me, I attended church but it wasn't until I was 30 that I actually understood John 3 16 - and became a Believer - that was 40 some years ago. Never looked back. Thanks again for your honesty.
@@Nocturnalux Don't entertain this filthy troll.
I live in Washington. Grew up here since I was 4. Somewhat Close to Portland area. A lot of people are republicans and very conservative or religious. Like the rest of the US. Only concentrated small areas are actually pagan or atheist. Sometimes Wiccan. ESP when I grew up. Now it’s like 62% are religious-so religious communities are still the majority of people. I haven’t met anyone proclaiming to be atheist before. Self-proclaimed atheist individuals are pretty rare.
Yep, even if I had proof one of the gods existed, doesn't mean I have to worship him/her/them ...
Yes. Feel free to enjoy your TEMPORARY free will that expires at your last gasp on earth, as you then go to hell for eternity - wishing 100+ trillion times that you had never been born. No, I'm totally fictional. Like their gawd. And I'm writing this from behind the Universe out of space and time. 😀🤦
Not only is it reprehensible for this supposed god to curse people for who they love, but if you think about it, this god would have created people the way they are! So he would be cursing people for something that is his own fault!
I live in the Bible Belt, and I've given up trying to convince people that their cherry-picking Bible beliefs are mistaken. Now my tactic is telling them that, if their God exists, and he's omnipotent, and he doesn't make mistakes, he must have made people the way they are for some reason. It all must be part of a plan, and the Bible does tell them they should not judge others and they should treat others with love, no matter what. It's god's job to judge them, not their's. So they should just live and let live.
“Children may be starving to death but at least they’re not lonely! Some people aren’t even getting married and that’s way worse!”
why would they say they are athiests then? worried they will go to hell if they aren't atheists?
I can't think of a single reason, especially not in the US when so many of your citizens never really forgot the puritanical ways!! 😂
Logic fail.
@@OceanusHelios Logic dearth. "I'm going to argue stuff based entirely on my own limited experiences and completely treat people who have been talking about atheism for DECADES like children and then act shocked when they get offended".
