Nice smallie and white bass, great job!!! I have noticed in all of your videos that when you fish a paddle tail swim bait you normally don't retrieve it with a straight retrieve but you fish it more like a jerk bait, twitch left, jig up, twitch right and repeat, I need to give that a try. I usually straight retrieve with pauses and I do get bites (mostly dinks) but I have also seen another You Tuber use this same retrieve with baits I normally wouldn't think to fish that way with good results for bass fishing. It must be the erratic action, looking like a fleeing or dying bait fish that draws the bigger ones in.

And yes!! I started heavily twitching on my retrieve with paddle tails maybe 2 years ago? I was fishing rip-rap and was basically trying to stay out of the rocks and noticed a massive response from bigger and more fish so I started doing it more and more in open water too. I’m becoming convinced of it’s effectiveness as I’ve been fishing the same area and same bait with other great anglers and they won’t get bit as often or by as aggressive of a fish. Like you mentioned I think the erratic motion triggers a response in the more aggressive fish similar to the fleeing baitfish! I will occasionally use the same method with tubes but a bit slower and marabou jigs too and it seems to work. Thanks for watching my friend, I hope you’re doing well and getting some decent fish on!
