    Unfortunately Martin Tools is no longer producing the 167G. Snap-On claimed Patent rights over the design and forced Martin to stop producing the hammer under their line. I will try and keep my eyes peeled for a new design from them that gets around this issue.

      @@andrewklie8061 great I’ll have to scoop some up. They showed me prototypes of those in 2019, glad they finally came out. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      I am so happy they came out with the 2 sided compact hammer. I just watched your video of you reviewing it. Mine should arrive today along with their heavy bumping hammer.
      Thank you so much for your videos! I have recently started to do much more fabrication and metal forming work. I really enjoy it.

      I always thought snap on was just rebranded martin with different handles, are the heads in fact different?

    I have around 100 body hammers in many styles and brands. Did you get an auction notice for a shop in North Attleboro? Keilens restoration is retiring and Todesco Auctions will be having a sale on 8/11/18. Let me know if you are interested my shop is just around the corner.

    Thanks for great video. I like the snap on handle profile best. Helps keep the hammer head clocked correctly and avoid the dreaded smiley in the job from a bad hammer blow. With practice it is possible to work unsighted with the snap on and be confident you tapping the job straight and true. It is down to personal preference but I could also very easily make a good case for having both of them!

      I agree. I like my snap on handles better but only marginally so. It's a little more tiresome to grip my martin hammers right but I manage all the same.

      I really want to get my hands on the set that Ron Covell has for sale through Trick Tools. They look like they have the winning handle like Snap-On and the price tag of Martin Tools hammers/dollies. That looks like a winning combo to me.

      HotRodHippie I agree with you. Had I not spent out on my snap on hammers I would buy the Covell set from Trick Tools. I have bought nearly all of his DVDs and his signature slapper. Ron a real inspiration and confident he not going to put his name to anything that he does not really rate? After watching him I had the burning desire to get a Yoder hammer with a thumb shrinking die set but no joy, simply none available! Ended up building my own one. It's ok but probably 40% as effective as the Yoder.

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      40% as effective is still darn good. Ron is a great guy and I trust his opinion thoroughly. I'm thinking of picking up his hammer and dolly set to have a set dedicated to aluminum only use. So I'm not mixing metals with my tools.

      HotRodHippie that sounds like a wise idea. My power hammer is based upon the dessert hybrids design but adapted and changed to suit my needs. Very similar to a Pullmax and with the right tooling, can pretty much do the same job but just not as powerfully.

    DO you have any compact body hammers? If so what brand? Have you cut down a "normal" hammer instead?

      I cut down one recently. It is my favorite now I just wish it had more weight. I was actually thinking of welding on some weight to it.

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewklie8061 that is the nice thing about the factory ones. The extra meat around the handle provides more weight. A viewer recently emailed me photos of a design where they cut a ball peen hammer into a compact body hammer. It looked great. I posted photos on Instagram and Facebook.

      @@HotRodHippie I knew I was going to loose weight but needed the compactness that day 😂. Even though it is light I still really like it.

      Boxcar's Garage you are completely correct. Martin tools makes Snap-on's hammers to Snap-On's specifications. They are pretty different in design though.

    • @Shelbytona

      HotRodHippie I know for sure Martin makes the dollies and dinging spoons. They are identical in every way including the way they are laser marked. One just says snap on and costs a bit more. I have a few of each. The hammers don’t look like they are made by Martin though.. check out hazet tools. I think they make the snap on body hammers. Identical hickory handles.

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the input and would love to get my hands on Hazet hammers.
      I've had reps from Snap On specifically tell me Martin makes their hammers though. Hazet is a German company and Snap On Hammers are made in the USA.

    Thers a reason in the higher cost of snap on and that is ballance and better steel .

    • @HotRodHippie
      @HotRodHippie  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally I prefer the balance of the Martin tools hammer better but that is a very subjective thing. As for steel, both hammers are made by Martin Tools. I'm unaware of any base material differences. Finish detail is clearly different, so heat treat and hardening is possibly different. I've tested that previously and forget what results I got but I did find a difference in Rockwell Hardness between Snap-On and Martin tools.

      They are quality tool for sure, but there is no way they can build all the tool that have in their catalogue. Snap on tools is a Marketing company. They do not make them. That charge you 2x+ the price because they go to your shop and lend you the money to have your tool.
