    Even without the commercial success people of the future will believe that the Norse god thor literally came down from Asgard in the 1980s to form a heavy metal band on earth. This guy is immortalized no matter what

    I saw Thor on his comeback tour. What a guy. All for the fans, he worked his ass off - and the crowd loved it.

    He could of lived a quiet peaceful life in the suburbs. Maybe occasionally popped up at a comic con or something and reminisce with fans about his metal days and talk about his film rolls that is probably more popular now thanks to MST3K/Rifftrax. But not everyone is suited to live the quiet life. For anyone who felt the rush of performing on stage and traveled the world experiencing the fame, success, and women that comes with it it would be to hard to ever want to settle down in one spot for to long and try to live a normal quiet life.

    Showman shape, muscular and good looking, entertaining as hell, good at singing, plenty of crazy strongman tricks in his repertoire, a little cheesiness in his performances but, hell, those were the Eighties... anyway, it's simply a SHAME he didn't get the fame he deserved!!!!!

    I would love to see this. I first found out about Thor in a UK music mag in 2004. I don't remember him getting any MTV play or Hit Parader press in the '80s. I like his act, though. Kinda like if He-Man fronted a metal band.

  • @kainnosgoth7336
    @kainnosgoth7336 9 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Oh man, this is really sad. I hate riches to rags stories like this, this is like the metal version of "The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke. On the other hand it shows the person behind the mask and the real person off stage, and I think that lends real humanity to someone who was otherwise seen as "just another metal wannabe".
    As William Shatner once said, "In order to be a has-been, you have to have been someone in the first place." And I would just like to say to Thor, you STILL are someone! I was a fan of yours then and I'm a fan NOW thirty years later! "KNOCK EM' DOWN!"

      +Kain Nosgoth Wrestler was so tragic - I hated the end.

      Lusty Rhonda MacPhallus Yeah, me too, but you realize that this is a guy with a glorious past and no future, and no way out of his situation.
      I liked what The Wrestler said when he was having a beer with Marisa Tomei.
      He was talking about the 80's being 'the best time with the best music" and then he said "until the 90's and that pussy Kurt Cobain came around".
      Cheers erupted in the theater when he said that.

    • @lustyrhondamacphallus3896
      @lustyrhondamacphallus3896 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, amen to that. Some damn good hair metal tunes in the 80's. Ratt and Crue were my favorite of that particular genre. I'm more a traditional metal head, NWOBHM, that sort of thing.
      I don't really know anything about Thor, bar one or two songs I heard on compilation albums years ago. I love rock documentaries, but it says its riches to rags - I don't like those. No chance he'll resurrect his career in todays market. Hopfully he'll make a few quid from his film, like Anvil did, but the Anvil movie was a Spinal Tap, it was destined for success.

    • @kainnosgoth7336
      @kainnosgoth7336 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lusty Rhonda MacPhallus NWOBHM, say no more. Raven is the head of the pack in my book. Always loved those guys!
      I had a British classmate when I went to school here in America and he came back from summer vacation in England with the Rock Until You Drop album and from there he introduced me to more bands. NWOBHM was, like ANY great genre, prolific, short lived, and oozing with classic sound.

    • @lustyrhondamacphallus3896
      @lustyrhondamacphallus3896 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love Raven. I don't know if they would have cracked it or not, but when they were getting decent label support, a wall fell down on the guitarist crushing his legs - putting the band on hiatus for a couple of years. They supported Metallica in Brazil last year, so they are still gigging anyway. NWOBHM was great - Tygers Of Pan Tang were my favorites of that sound. Downloading has killed rock music now. It must be so frustrating putting an album out then watch it pop up on download sites. I miss the 80/90s, none of that reality bullshit, and there was tons of good music in circulation. I dread to think what the scene will be like in ten years, all the classic bands are getting really old now - there will be nothing out there.

    Thor was married to Cherry Bomb, Ms. Bomb worked for mens magazines like Cheri(haha) and a few others. Ms. Bomb was on some magazine covers, I think she also interviewed rock stars and that's how she hooked up with Thor. After Thor's career died out in the 80's they moved to her home state of North Carolina. They led a quiet life until Thor wanted to perform again then they divorced.

    The reason a band like The Rolling Stones have been around so long is their style of music.
    Metal - Hard rock is a young man's/woman's game. Does anyone want to see a guy in his mid 70's dressed in make up and spikes singing "Christeen 16" ???? Tony Bennett in his 90's and still crooning works. Guys in their 70's trying to scream and jump around like they are 20 for 20 year old girls does not.
    There are many styles of music but Metal isn't one that forgives aging. Jon had his run. He did what he could do in a Metal market glutted with make up and hair and gimmicks. It burnt itself out just like Disco. Too many, too many sounding the same. A smart move would be to open your gyms and produce other bands here and there. Love or hate him no one can knock the guy for at least trying to find his place and trying to be somewhat different.

    Dude, stop! You're old! Stop! I'm tired of Geezer acts recycling their glory days into these old folks home tours. And I can say that, I just turned 60. Kiss, Rolling Stones, all you guys, yeah, I still listen to the music they made when they were young but I wouldn't pay a nickel to see them live today!

    most of this movie was very sad untel he got to finland and people treated him like a rock star, i'm not sheer what it is about northern europeans and metal,the germans are the same. in america metal is not popular in any way, the most popular bands are the cookie moster sream'o bands, i'm not a fan of any of that, i love classic metal and rock.
