I have the Cork case and love it. Cork is durable and the direction the cork is cut and placed should make it last a long time. Cork is supposed to be soft and not hard so you had the wrong expectations and to someone who knew what to expect from a cork case it’s the perfect feel.
@@Maneetpaul I felt the same in the beginning but then it grew on me. It would’ve definitely been cool if they matched the plastic case color with the Cork color and made it beige/nude.
@@nathanfoung2347 I had a fabric case on my 10th gen PW and it was really good and decided to do something different this time around. The light Cork is awesome even with the color of the shell.
Have you not noticed that the right side is also sharp, and, as a consequence, there's nowhere to rest one's thumb comfortably? I own the fabric case and the case that comes with the Paperwhite for kids and they both have that problem.
cool review!!!! simple and straight to the point but also meaty!!!! maaaan the cork case looks so beautiful from the front! i personally got the pink/lavender fabric case because it's more on brand for me, but i agree with the black plastic part on the cork case throwing off the premium feel. great video!!!
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! The black plastic really ruins the vibe, but it's still a great case. It's been growing on me over the past few months, haha.
I agree, the plastic shell is terrible. Amazon used to make high quality covers with soft touch materials, it’s a shame that they decided to cut costs and put out an inferior product.
Having bought the Kids PPW edition, was great to have a black fabric case free. Sweet Black Friday deal, as well. Don't know why anyone would buy the 'standard' edition. But I've just taken delivery of a Moko clear gel-case, like the mobile phone ones - only £9. It's just easier to hold one-handed and fine for use around the house. If I took my Kindle on travels (not happening that often now!), I'd put it back in the fabric cover.
I have had the leather version for around 3 years now. Daily use around 3 hours a day. Still looks new. Not the most comfortable thing but it is worth the trade off to me. Not a big deal after you get used to it and learn how to hold it comfortably.
@williehutch03 it has been wet from time to time. I have never dumped it in a pool but it's had things spill on it or I've had it start raining outside while I was reading but I came back in pretty quick.
It's much more comfortable to use the clear shell cases ( back silicone cover only) and stick a pop socket on it. For storage, a custom made sleeve from Etsy. Cases make them heavier and bulky. Hard to hold.
For my basic Kindle, I bought the Van Gogh Starry Nights cover. I liked it so much I'd put my Kindle on the desk or the table even when not using it just so I could look at the cover. When I get my Kobo Libra (soon as I see a sale) I hope I can get a nice third-party cover for that as well.
@@LuminousOriens I do like it very much. It hasn't, so far, shown any signs wear. Although I've only had it a few weeks, and, I'm careful with it, there's no indication of the few problems (mainly cracking) from the negative reviews.
@@LuminousOriens I had a feeling people were, for the most part, just being too rough. I treat my readers, and most everything, with care; as I would a physical novel. My leather cover on my Kindle looks a good as when I bought it, and it's six or sever years old now.
The problem I have found with the cases with a hard plastic shell, is that it wears off the rubbery coating if you are taking it out of the case a bit.
I don't own a Kindle, but for my Kobos, Nooks and tablets, I use the Fintie Slimshell cases. They are very similar to the cases you showed, but the plastic shell wraps around much further. They are also cheaper.
I had the Finite one for my Kindle oasis for the longest time! It's a great case. It started to wear down after using it for a year, though. I have a video about this: th-cam.com/video/ZG3v3fZP8gQ/w-d-xo.html
Hi, can you recommend the lightest and thinnest Kindle PW SE cover? This my very first kindle just bought 2 days ago but I dont like the added weight and thickness on most on the case I bought
Thank you for taking the time to review this product. I personally don't like this Cork case. It doesn't justify the price tag. have you tried Klever Case? I have the Faux Leather for my Kindle Paperwhite and I love it. I'm curious about your take on it. Thanks again.
I wish Amazon would make a leather case the same as they did for my Paperwhite 7th Generation, it looks and feels more premium than the current offering and has a nice soft silicone shell. Because of this and the less glare on the screen I still prefer it to the 11th Generation Paperwhite
Good breadth in your review as always, and well presented. How much does the added weight impact the holding of the Kindle? Esp. with the new kindles being heavier. And do you fold the front of the case back over while reading ?
I got a beautiful blue leather case from Oberon. Omg is it fricking beautiful. It still uses bungees which I’m not mad in love with but my gosh is it a beauty
I had the fabric case but sent it back due to the sharp plastic edges. Still hoping for the premium leather cover but I suppose it’s the same sharp edged plastic.
I got the new paperwhite during a sale. I got the “kids” kindle with the standard black case and the corner of the case doesn’t bother me, maybe because I came from reading on and holding up an iPad 9.7” (with case). Loving my kindle so far, it is so much better than carrying around my iPad and I can even read while walking the dog. I would never consider using a device like this without a case, while I like the basic free case well enough I will likely get a third party case with a kickstand for desk and tabletop reading. The one thing I don’t like is that there is not a setting to see how many pages left in a chapter. It can tell you how long you have left but I measure time by pages left not actual time (call me crazy but it works with hard copies why not digital?). Wish they would add that update to all kindle softwares
All of these cases hold the Kindle in the same way that my Robot Dreams cover does. I like that it is a bit rubbery rather than hard plastic, which lets it bend without breaking, which lets me remove the Kindle without chipping the case.
Holding a kindle without a case isn't comfortable. I like the extra bulk they provide for holding onto. As for what kind of case I really don't know why you would pay more than $30 for one. The fabric one works perfectly fine. Haven't had any problems with the plastic edges but I'm finding myself pressing the power button far more than I ever did on the 2018 one as the smaller bezel makes me hold it from the bottom.
I agree. Without a case holding the kindle named is awkward. I I just ordered the leather case and hope it is water resistant because I like to read in the pool and and bathtub.
The cost of the Kindle case, alone, isn't extravagant, its the combination if needing to budget. I had to choose between a new paperwhite and kobo clara. I saved nearly $100 by choosing the clara with a functional ten buck case and not having to brood over, buying a $30+ case, removing ads, or upgrading to signature. Thanks, by the way, your channel is how I knew the Clara was a viable option.
The same cheap cases exist for Kindles. I have a Clara as well and really like it. Just wanted to point out that the 'official' Amazon cases aren't the only ones. Kobo also offers overpriced 'official' cases. The Clara case is ugly and $30!
@@jseger9000 Thanks! I didn't see the cheap cases for the 11th gen when I first started looking (aside from those floppy ones). I agree about the overpriced Kobo sleepcovers. oh man, i'm so glad i watched this! thank you for the review! as expensive as the cork is, i was considering it. i have the fabric one which i love, except i got the black & it tends to camouflage itself in the environment i'm in. lol. i should've gone for the blue so it's more visible. i wish amazon had a coffee colored one. i found a coffee fabric one from a 3rd party with no reviews, so not gonna bother with that.
I recently have to change my Kindle Keyboard for a paperwhite 11 and of course I buy it with the official case. But the case was very disappointing. Muy old k3 case was fabulous, it feels like a real book, this one... Well 1st surprise was the plastic edge. I don't like it. Second, the top and bottom edges seems very unprotected to me. My old case guarded better that zones. I thought new cases are more like mobile cases, all edges and zones protected. But no, top and bottom seems cutted. And the screen part also seems to me very narrow, my previous one was kind of chubby and i feel that my screen was 100% protected. The new one seems to be efficient but a the same time kinda fragile. I expected better quality and protection from kindle official case. I don't know if in the near future i'll change it for a non official one that proctects all the edges.
5:53 have you never opened a bottle of wine?! it is the soft cap/stopper of the bottle, made from the bark of the Cork Oak tree. Very soft... but impermeable, hence the use in wine bottles...

In Brasil we have the WB cover; it uses a soft and flexible plastic to put the kindle in. But only in fake leather or plastic, no fabric. I'm not sure where is it from.
I bought a PU leather case for mine (£27). It doesn't have that hard plastic back that you clip the kindle into. The back is the same as the front and the inside has a soft leather frame that you slide the kindle into. I really do think that the official Amazon cases are poor value for money and this video highlights that. I've always bought 3rd party cases for my devices and never regretted it.
The leather ones from Amazon aren’t that good imo. The colour peels away / fades and looks quite dated pretty quickly. Think my next case will be a fabric one. The cork one interests me, but dunno if I’ll get sick of how it looks after a while.
