I think Charlie benefits from the fact that he can do literally anything in a scene and i wouldn't register it as out of character. When i watched 2:26 I genuinely interpreted it as him distracting himself because he does sometimes express discomfort when Dennis goes full sociopath. And hell, he could start laughing in the middle of a scene that he shouldn't and I would probably think he wasn't paying attention and got lost in weird thoughts. Just going full 'he doesn't get us, man'

A good tell I've noticed when Rob breaks character(or is right on the verge of breaking) is that he'll kinda squint, sometimes squeeze his forehead and look straight up into the sky.

Reminds me of “FETISH STUFF” cobble up all the bloopers and you get the final scene shot in 3 second intervals of ppl managing to temporarily not break lol
Wow Danny breaking character is always so subtle that I missed it. I thought he never broke, but with these clips when I'm looking for it I can see it. And it's amazing how he slightly breaks character and then gets back into it all within like 1 second.
My favourite one is where Charlie is explaining to Dennis about Nightcrawlers. You can see from behind that Charlie has the biggest grin on his face during that scene.

There was one that wasn’t in this compilation where he’s crying about their brother Donnie that they devoured in the womb. You can see him crack a smile.
I love how each of them sort of have their own unique ways of breaking character. Charlie looks away, Rob shows his teeth, Danny either tries to change his expression or just goes along with it, Kaitlin just tries to play it off as Dee and Glenn sort of just shows it most time
I interpret these scenes as the characters' humanity and souls are leaking out for fractions of a second, but then they quickly retreat back inside their horribly rotten shell and husk.
I've seen every sunny episode a million times and im surprised I almost never see the obvious character breaks, probably bc theyre something else really funny in the scene

I feel like Mac brings one the most important roles to the absurdity, where he's A REGULAR guy trying to fit in with crazies and can't figure out why he isn't, even when he has his own level of nutty. AND Dee show's a crazy TRYING to be normal and annoyed by her surroundings
there's a great one in the art episode where Charlie is laughing at Cricket while he's dressed like Richard Greico, and he's full on laughing in the foreground but Cricket is chewing up the scenery so you don't notice
I never notice these aren't intentional. The only ones that consistently stand out to me are Rob's because his laugh his so charismatic and that's not how Mac is usually depicted. But even then I usually just see it as a glimmer of humanity in Mac.
