This is the best tip I've seen in 23 years of golf (I'm ashamed to say). With many intermittent lessons from different folks over the years and years of frustrated playing, no one ever saw that I was outside the ball target line on the down swing. I've been told "straight back straight forward, more rotation of the shoulders", do the "Elvis move" (the right side tilt). inside out with the down swing etc etc etc. But all of this without the importance of understanding forearm rotation , thumbs pointed behind me and the right body tilt. These tips gave me the physical references of where the club should be on the downswing and my body alignment. I never broke 100 before (again, I'm ashamed to say) but yesterday I shot an 89 (with no mulligans, no capped shots). On my 5th par my wife looked at me and said "who is this guy? Thanks CR!!!!

This is amazing. I’ve also done everything I could think of but would notice in videos of myself that my club seemed to be out in front somehow no matter what I did. Now I know why exactly like you time to test the theory always hoping I have found my breakthrough 😂 which for me an 89 would definitely be a breakthrough

Best advice I have gotten off video. The head cover with tee worked first time I tried. I found this drill worked with hybrids and irons. Thanks so much!

Nice drills Chris. I struggled for years to hit a draw and would always hit a fade until a Top club fitter suggested two things to me in a driver fitting. The first tip was aim to the right and the second tip was to "think" about the right elbow "tucking" into my right side during the downswing. For me, it works every time!

You're the best Chris. Your explanations are clear, concise, sensible and intuitive. Well done. I've looked at a lot of instructors...Hank Haney, Butch Harmon, David Leadbetter, Clay Ballard, Sean Foley, Jim MClean, Michael Breed, and others. You are in a different league than any of them...a natural teacher, with fabulous explanations, images, exercises, props and checks. Feel is not reel. You give us ways to check things which are guides so we can see if the moves and pathways are correct. I can't tell you how much I've learned at age 72. Had I watch you when I was young, I would have been a major winner. I know this sounds like bragging and self elevation, but I think it is true.
    Thanks so much!

Chris - tried these drills and focused on these swing thoughts. Practiced for a bit and got out and played 9 yesterday. Hit 5/6 fairways and with better distance than I normally do. Great video. Will recommend this video to anyone who is struggling with the big stick. Cheers and much thanks.

Very well laid out. The second drill was particularly eye-opening. Combined with the knowledge you gave that on a good swing the clubhead would never get outside the target line. That early tipping action that you demonstrated made me realize what is causing my jammed up feeling at the delivery position👌🏽 Can't wait

Tried concept #2 today. Excellent results. Even on half swings and chips. Trying to feel the thumbs point behind me on downswing is allowing me to come into the ball with a square clubface. I was way too shut at approach apparently. A whole new world. Thanks mate

AMAZING INSIGHT! Easily one of the best video explanations on “how to hit from the inside.” Especially tip #2, showing how we are supposed to deliver the club into the ball. when it’s parallel to the ground and then to impact. Ive struggled for so many years trying to understand how to deliver the club face into the ball. But now I understand how to manipulate the grip to achieve this. Thank you for explaining this, I personally feel this “hitting window” is the most misunderstood thing in the golf swing. The pump drill you show is a brilliant way to help us learn! Thank you Chris!!

Great vid as usual. My coach has put a tee peg in front of the ball out to the right to get me feel that the club passes over that after I’ve hit the ball, I don’t of course, and this has helped me from a visual perspective.

    • @dtgps
      @dtgps 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@neil, thumbs behind is good. Notice when you do that the palm of the trail hand is facing the sky. That is the real key.
Keep the palm of trail hand facing the sky as DS begins. Cures OTT and drops arms into the slot.
Another cue: pinkies higher than thumbs.
      cheers

After all these years I'm able to draw the ball with my driver this video is worth saving for constant reminder as to how to draw the ball, one other little tip I've found is to aim my feet slightly right of the target to encourage the inside on my downswing. Also as a practice swing I try to swing the club in a clockwise motion ie. Swing on the outside going back and then inside towards the ball.

On the downswing, is a swing thought to keep back to the target for as long as possible a good thing? I try to feel that and hold the shoulders from rotating. With the forearm rotation you are suggesting it always seems to me that the club gets stuck and I can't catch up.

I was pretty excited about trying the 2nd drill - forearm rotation - sure made a lot of sense. When I tried it in slow motion it sure allowed my path to come nicely from the inside. BUT my club face was WIDE OPEN as I approached impact. It seems like to get the club face square at impact would require a quick & precisely timed forearm rotation in the other direction. Am I missing something?

This ties into grip but i don’t know if it’s correct or not, but taking a strong grip then opening the face at address with forearm rotation can really assist in hitting a draw/hook. Things like that. Whether it’s correct, bandaid etc

Sorry about rabbiting again but I tried rhis out today and killing my drives, fairway woods (not 3 so much yet). The BIG surprise was my long irons as they were startling then started to think was was giving me a surge of power. Yes I was coming in more in to out and bumping my hip then it dawned I was keeping my thumbs on top of the grip pushing down with a turn as opening a door knob before my thumbs were not on top of the shaft. I don't know if this is technically correct but its like new swing.@@ChrisRyanGolf
