BIGGEST Learning MISTAKES That Hold Beginner Programmers Back
If you’re getting annoyed at the slow rate of your progress with learning to code, then even just making one of the mistakes I am about to talk about in this video could be massively slowing down how fast you learn and obliterating your progress of actually becoming good at programing.
And how do I know that? Well because I made EVERY SINGLE one of them, and when I stopped doing them, things changed…a lot.
I will warn you, some of these will not be easy to hit - learning to code is not easy - this is a difficult, and abstract skill that takes a lot of effort to master.
but they are the things I just wish someone had shaken me and screamed in my face “TUOMAS, STOP DOING THESE THINGS” so I might have actually paid attention.
So in this video, I am going to be hopping in a time machine to take you back to these mistakes...

    Quick Summary :
Mistakes when learning to code :
1 - Learn by heart (learn programming is more about understand core principles common to many programming languages)
2 - Learn everything at once (focus on what you need for your project / or future work and stick to it instead of looking for the "new shinny famous language")
3 - Expect to learn code by doing something else than writing lines of code …
4 - Watching without applying (better to learn by building stuff and applying theory/ new knowledge to your project)

I'm sure there's some flaws to my approach but what got me going to school for web development was the projects that I wanted to be able to build. Throughout school, following all of the online classes, instead of recoding the apps that the instructor was making I was coding parts of the apps I wanted to build as they went over the different concepts. This led to the course taking more time and me having to do a lot of independent research just to complete the project but I think that's where the learning really happens.

Your message rings very true to me, and not just regarding programming.
I’ve been interested in computer graphics and ray tracing since the eighties, but haven’t done anything meaningful about it for decades.
So, for the last couple of years I’ve been looking into Blender. And man, have I been watching tutorials. I’ve watched so many tutorials I think I could say that that has become a hobby in itself. And just like you said in the video, you don’t actually learn if you don’t apply your skill in actual projects.

The july 2020 part was very close to home. I was studying like, 8 hours a day and I MEAN IT, really coding and taking notes and shit. Then i got to make a bairesdev test and I absolutely TANKED IT. The despair that came into me was overwhelming but... then it hit me and i think it will happen to the end of my life: you are learning and you will go on learning. If you dont know by now, time will be on your side to get this knowledge. Great video

It’s funny because the reason why I ended up failing my first computer science class was because I knew that I needed to apply what I was learning to actual code of my own, but by doing that, I was taking using up all my time on stuff other than coursework 😂it’s all good though, I’ve come a long way

As of this moment i am doing MOOC introduction to programming in Helsinki university and it's really good, it gives you challenges when your learning code that help you learn the things that just were taught to you but the best part is that if you are a highschool/collage student and you go to uni and you have passed the course in the MOOC, you can actually get that course as
5 ECTS credit so you don't have to do introduction to programming at your uni.

I think, to apply the third point, one doesn't have to get any 'important-market surprise-life changer' project. Just do anything that's attractive for you, or even stupid. If you want to learn C++, make an uneven programming language for fun or rebuild a videogame... plants vs zombies 2? Everything is not perfect, but when you've put in practice your new knowledge in something that's better than "nothing", you can start focusing on whats valuable. So make something random but that stills may challenge you.

Personal Advice: Don't try to force yourself to make something make sense. Coding is like a language, and it will come naturally to you if you were to just observe, whether that's over and over again, slowly, or in another way through different examples. Don't think why, think how.

    • @jackweaver5840
      @jackweaver5840 ปีที่แล้ว

@@zaybmalik8149 it depends on what background you have, if you are a developer and you want to get into automation development and testing, you need to learn testing fundementals and hoe to automate testing sense you already know how to code, if your completely new and you want to break into the testing and automation world you can start by learning the application lifecycle and dive into testing fundementals and learn manual testing and learn different kinds of tests and how to think like a tester and to think of use cases and scenarios to test the application, and after that you can learn a programming language like Java to get a good grsap of OOP fundementals and then learn an automation framework such as selenium, after you have a good base, you can switch to another programming language and a more modren testing framework, the difference between manual QA and automation is that manual QA manually tests the software without touching code, tests inputs and outputs and focus on edge cases and user experience and find bugs, automation testing is writing code test scripts for the computer to test the software, automation development is developing the logic and code so you can write tests based on that framework, overall automation is part of the testing world because you develop code to test the application and it is a bridge between testing and development and little devops (CI CD) I hope i gave you a high level picture.

Hello brother thank you for everything you really have an extra content you helped me a lot of course some things I figured out already but I followed you because you have too good content and you really worth you are full of knowledge and information thank you for sharing your knowledge with us here today is already 6 months how I learn programming myself of course I have moments when I get lost but I come back for myself my plan and goal I made a mistake 2 times in I'm learning programming and this is the 3rd time I've come back of course that's the worst feeling when I'm one has to go back to the beginning many times as I said my mistake before this word general programming is not just to learn the technique how to do it and that my opinion is that programming is more somehow and part of the psyche of course people have to be aware that it is difficult and that one has to be persistent to the end in everything here I am already 6 months active every day I made a break 5 or 6 It's only this year, but I don't want to do it myself, but when you have to do something, it's Let's get back to the story people never give up on your goals otherwise I don't know if you have something on the channel about freelancers that would mean a lot to me if you don't have to make that video sorry for too long a message but I had to write this much of course there is more to talk about but there's something I just wanted to say I finished one course and now I'm watching something on TH-cam in general my opinion is that on the Internet we have There is a lot of education for free without people even realizing what they can do with such an arsenal of knowledge. especially in this industry we are talking about it is hard give yourself time I do not say I have to learn a lot more but I think that 6 months of continuous learning I have invested well in myself and if I feel bad that I had to have small breaks but all in all good i'm coming back just push people and you

We can’t memorise all the algorithms we might need. And there’s new ones all the time.

We no worry about coding. We just upgrade our skills everything will come automatically. While learning anything or any new skills, take pen and paper note all points. Because upcoming days it will be very helpful for us. We can't able to remember everything!😇

I stady coding by myself. They gave me excersises and I use chat gpt. But there is a problem. I cant solve any excersise without chat gpt. When chat gpt write a code for particular excersise i ask him explaine the code. Thats all. If chat gpt hadn't work I wouldn't have solve anything. And it seems to me that there is no sense in that way of stadying. There arent any corses. Only excersise. I feel like I Improve my english instead of learning to code 😁

Do you think is it ok by learning something new in Java for example . To watch and implement some code from TH-cam tutorials . After understanding the concept try do it by yourself with your own example .
Tell me your opinion , I do this every time and i find it really helpful . Any methods you use that helps you the most ?

Bro I stopped coding with my online bootcamp cause I couldn't memorize everything, and as I only have 30min with my mentor so nobody can explain me how to get my work done I have to look on Google or somewhere else. Bro I'm gonna learn I to code myself but AI is helping me with the codes and explanation is that a bad way of learning ??

I learned the fundamentals of programming and i know how to apply those concepts but the my biggest problem is being lazy to do projects. Always wasting my time without even focusing on my goal. I have some projects in my mind i build an android app. After all that i became lazy and not even learning or creating a new app, anybody have any idea to overcome laziness😢😢 😢😢

    • @InternetMadeCoder

Try doing it for 30 minutes a day. But also set a goal. Also outside things in your life you must stay focused and work on those as well. As you get older your brain isn’t as young and you start to become stuck in your ways
