  • We took a train from Salisbury to London to attend Video Games in Concert performed by the Royal Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall. We booked these tickets before we realized that it's the first day of the Queen's Jubilee celebration 😅 --- despite the crowds it ended up being a really fun day!

The Proms are held at the Albert hall during summer, free concerts for people culminating with the last night of the proms, might be worth looking into. 🥂cheers.

The Proms aren't free! But some of the cheaper tickets are subsidised, so you can get a standing ticket for about £7 and the cheapest seats are about £10 for non-Royal Albert Hall venues (e.g. Cadogan Hall) and about £13 for RHA. Still incredible value for world-class performances in beautiful venues.
Of course, it's free to listen on BBC Radio 3, and they broadcast every single performance.

Hi Folks, That was quite nostalgic for me having spent many a happy hour in Watkins, Atlantis bookshops chatting with like-minded weirdo's! So glad Foyles is still going(Their old shop in Charing Cross Rd) I used to love wandering around there in book heaven knowing you could never, ever run out of books to read & finding nooks & crannies that you felt no one's been near in years! Loving your channel and nearly caught up with all your English Vlogs Cheers Jim, Surrey X

If you're here next year you may want to check out the Hay Festival (book and arts festival). Hay on Wye is in a lovely part of the country and there's the chance to hear talks by authors etc. Search for hayfestival.
And if you find yourself in Scotland (and you really, really should spend some time exploring Scotland) try Wigtown (aka Booktown) as Scotland's unofficial capital of bookshops.

Not sure how I missed this comment, I am a huge Star Trek fan. Abbie prefers Star Wars, but we all know ST is better.
What is your favorite series? Mine has always been TNG (Picard best captain IMO, with Riker as #2, and you can't beat Worf and Data.). Next would be DS9 (Quark is my all time favorite ST character), followed by Voyager (loved the dynamic between Tuvok and Tom Paris). The Original Series would be next for me. I wasn't super into it, but really liked the old ST movies "KHAAANNN". I couldn't get into the newer shows though (Enterprise, the new Picard, etc.) -- it felt like the quality went down hill for me.
Lastly, I haven't tried it myself, but some close friends really liked the ST cruise: startrekthecruise.com/. Might be worth checking out!

@@clowderlibrary Back in the day when you went to Foyles, you would find your book (if you could), queue up at a desk where someone would write out an invoice, you would take the invoice to a teller behind a secure screen to pay, they would stamp the invoice, and you would then take it back to the first desk to prove you'd paid and to collect your book. 'Eccentric' wasn't the word.

Re: the Tubes - I was in London for the Saturday and Sunday of the Jubilee long weekend and honestly, compared to an average pre-Covid workday, they were relatively quiet! I'd say 'steadily busy' as opposed to 'a crush' as it would have been anytime from about 7:30-10:00am and 3:30-6:30pm back then. I got a seat on every journey.

I havn't sat in that part of the RAH but have stood in the gallery, which is the standing area behind them, and it was slightly unpleasant for someone who's not keen on heights. It was also midsummer and uncomfortably hot due to their poor ventilation, though I believe they've since installed a new cooling system.

The flying saucers attached to the roof are to reduce the long reverberation time in the hall. The Albert Hall is in the same complex as the The Royal College of Music, The Royal School of Art, The Royal School of Mines and Imperial College, my alma mater. On a summer's day we could hear the music from the The Royal College of Music in the air.

Those seats where you were are really good seats! I've been the same side, a bit further down, I think in row A or B. The only way you'd get a better view is being in a really expensive seat on the floor - and even then you'd miss seeing the whole band/orchestra. I think you're in Section P, maybe 10 rows up? I normally try for the first couple of rows. It's cheap and hidden gem of an area.
I'm booked there again to see YES on 21st June, looks like the rail and tube strikes are going to scupper that. Owner of a broken heart indeed.
