      Nice vid, although it doesn't feel like the end without your theme track playing (and the [dad] jokes) 😀😁

      Thanks. Your Videos are great.
      By the way: For reloading the theme or other things simply push the "c"-key and input "theme" and you can reload your theme from everywhere or do other things (navigate, reload or restart and when you delete the ">" directly check every sensor)

    I highly suggest you use the grid card instead of the horizontal stack card, you will have to less repetitive work for each row, plus you can change the amount of columns later if needed.
    So instead of `type: horizontal-stack` you would replace that with:
    square: false
    columns: 2
    type: grid
    The cards would stay the same and just keep adding each -type and entities and not needing to keep adding more horizontal stacks.

    I’m glad you started this channel! I FINALLY recently switched away from The failing SmartThings to Hubitat, and then to HA and I LOVE IT! It’s definitely a learning curve, and I still can’t get some things to work (withings & Nest cameras) but hopefully I’ll figure it out soon! I installed it on a Dell Optiplex Micro I bought off of eBay. It’s a better and cheaper solution to using a Pi! Thank you for your service to the community and keep up the good work!! Thanks, Reed! I was just looking up how to change the appearance of the dashboard. I think your idea of doing a few items then copying and pasting the yaml to do more is just good common sense. I added a sensor yesterday and when I went to add another one I copied the whole tile and just changed the device. And that just seemed perfect to me. I'm loving using HA!

      @@reedssmarthome there’s also seems to be a level where f experience and familiarity you are expecting from watchers of this one as you are not taking the time to click through the process at a pace a beginner would need. If you’re targeting beginners, a slower pace showing all clicks to get from beginning to end would be great.

Thanks to you I didn't know the new update had caused this, introducing ha card border color you highlighted has now prevented me from pulling out my hair. Thanks a great video.

    Thanks Reed. loving this new channel. I'm hoping you can dive a bit more in depth on your configurations. The HA forums are great but there's something about a video tutorial that feels more complete, and ultimately, more helpful. For example: How are you configuring your cards to be sliders instead of toggle buttons? Your dashboard is exactly what I'm looking for and you're honestly the sole reason why I started this endeavor. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

    Great video, Reed. Would love to see a video on how you actually created your dashboard with all the subtle design nuances, like having all the lights stacked without having backgrounds behind the buttons. The dashboard you created was cool, but in your video you only showed how to use HA elements as opposed to anything Mushroom.

    • @petertraversone689
      @petertraversone689 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, how did you get your dashboard to span 3 full columns with margins on the side? Masonry mode only does 2 columns for me on my iPad or Mac App, but Panel mode doesn't give any margins which looks too cluttered and stretched.

    I’ve been setting up my HA setup for over a month. I have run into SO many road blocks that I haven’t found solved in forums or videos. A few channels really give a play by play. But so many assume all things go well. And you can’t ask questions in the smart home forums because you will get berated. Example, Synology update recently disabled USB dongles right as I set up my Conbee so then I had to read people’s solutions which involved coding. Eventually I read somewhere that if you plug it into your PC and complete a firmware update, it can work. Another example, getting Aqara devices set up on HA is labeled as “easy” but if you’re new to HA, then it isn’t. (Hint: I had to restart my server and not only hold down the button, but also press it randomly.) It think there is a hole in the market for basic play by play and adding in common mistakes or “if this happens it might be this.” I feel like a lot of stuff assumes all steps go perfectly. Might have to crowdsource problems.

    Another tip for a compact light card would be to use the grid card. Instead of a vertical stack of horizontal stacks. You can have a 2 column grid and get the same effect.

    Quick question. @ 3:53 you show kitchen lights, back door lights, dining lights... What card are you using for those dimmers, and how did you get them to fix all within the same card?
    I can only seem to add the mush light or new tile cards individually but I like how you've grouped them into what looks like a single card.

    My question is, do you have a solution for automating secondary door lock such as "swing bar lock"? I recently upgraded my lock to Nest Yale, but since we always have our swing bar locked, it breaks the meaning of the automation. not so smart after putting a smart lock, huh.

    Here’s a question: What’s the difference between Thread and Matter? Does any of it have anything to do with stuff that’s in our home things now? Will either of them work with Apple smart home things? Or make them easier, cheaper or more plentiful? I have a hodgepodge of stuff via the ADP Alarm app and Alexa. I’d like to change it all out to Apple and just use my AppleTV

    • @reedssmarthome
      @reedssmarthome  ปีที่แล้ว

      Matter will work with Thread devices. For example, Eve has some Thread sensors that work with HomeKit. Soon those will receive a firmware update and will also work with Matter.
      So yes when Thread sensors come out then it will work with Apple's hubs that are a Thread boarder router. Make sure it's not the newest less expensive Apple TV because that does not have Thread.
