I think we have different interpretations of what happened at the end.
It appears to me that the sister rushed home to catch Ferris before he could get home so he would get in trouble.
Then she overheard the principal telling Ferris that he would have to spend another year in high school. Another year with the two of them at the same school was the LAST thing she wanted, so she covered for him instead.
If she wanted to cover for Ferris as a result of her chat with Charlie Sheen, she would have driven slowly to ensure he got home first after she saw him in the street.

    1. Alan Ruck was 29 when filming.
    2. Charlie Sheen didn't sleep for 48 hours prior to his scene.
    3. It's unfair the clueless people like his parents make so much money. Especially his dad.
    4. Grace the secretary pretending to be Ed Rooney during the phone call from Cameron was improvised.
    5. Not pealing out in front of Rooney would have stopped him from going after Ferris.
    6. Odds are if someone has a dogie door they have a dog.
    7. This was John Hughes' ode to his hometown of Chicago. (RIP) John Hughes.
    8. The school is the same one John Hughes used for "The Breakfast Club" and "Uncle Buck".
    9. Ferris wouldn't be my friend because I wouldn't let him walk on me.

    Addie, Great reaction!
This film is still so loved that it has been parodied in amazing ways.
    - "Matthew's Day Off" in which Matthew Broderick (Ferris) takes a day off from shooting a movie, that was a Super Bowl commercial for the 2012 Honda CR-V.
    - Alan Ruck (Cameron) plays the father of a kid about to take his car for LiftMaster...and it was shot in the same garage. A fun twist on the scene where Ferris and Cameron get the Ferrari.
    - Joe Keery (Steve from 'Stranger Things') takes Ferris's place trying to get home in time for his Domino's Pizza delivery...with the girls in bikinis, running down the street, and instead of his dad, Alan Ruck is in an Audi in the same Hockey jersey as Cameron wears driving next to him, and the trampoline stunt.
    - The best is the after-end credits scene for 'Deadpool'...which I won't spoil, it's too good.
I consider this my favorite of John Hughes's films, closely followed by 'The Breakfast Club'. I was about to be a freshman in high school when this came out. I probably saw it 3 or 4 times that summer. To this day, I still love about half of the songs on the soundtrack...especially "Oh, Yeah" by Yello. Anyway, thanks, Addie! Have a great one!

Parents are watching you all of the time to try and get things right and you can’t get away with nothing all of the responsibility is on you by the time your other siblings come around they get away with so much stuff you would’ve never gotten away with because your parents have already done it once and they’re a lot more chilled with the other kids than the first born.

His Mom’s car has a license plate that reads “MMOM” which is a reference to 1983’s Mr. Mom which Hughes wrote. His Dad’s car has a license plate that reads “VCTN” which is a reference again to 1983’s Vacation. His sister’s car has a license plate that reads “TBC” which is a reference to 1985’s The Breakfast Club.
    6. I watched MTV when they still played videos.
    7. This was John Hughes' ode to his hometown of Chicago. (RIP) John Hughes.
    8. I'm not in line to be his "friend" because I wouldn't let him walk all over and/or Bull$hit me.
    9. That same school was also used for "Uncle Buck" and "The Breakfast Club".

In the end, Jeannie got a bit of satisfaction from overhearing Ferris getting caught, and she realized at that moment, she could bail him out and benefit two ways. He'd owe her, big leverage for her. She actually had an audacious, risk taking nature similar to his (she just applied it differently), and their future dynamic would be very interesting.

As you may have detected by the soundtrack, John Hughes was really into new wave music back then. All the posters in Ferris' and Cameron's rooms were his personal collection. Cameron only has U2 Boy, but Ferris has Bryan Ferry, Simple Minds, Killing Joke, Blancmange, The Damned, Charlie Sexton, Jah Wobble/Holger Czukay/The Edge, Flesh For Lulu, Cabaret Voltaire, The Rave Ups,

I remember watching that. I remember that strangely the main character (Ferris obviously) stated that he was nothing like the Mathew Broderick movie Ferris. It seemed weird to want to distance the show from the movie. It's been ages, so I'd have to see it again to be sure my memory is right about how the character acted, but I recall that he was a lot more cocky than smoothly charming.

I'm glad it failed and is mostly forgotten. Why tarnish the legacy of a great film?! Having said that, it certainly didn't help that they waited 4 years to try and "capitalize" on its' success. I always felt the lead in Parker Lewis Can't Lose was more like Ferris than the tv Ferris.
