Her voice was always mature. This album was her debut recording at the age of 21, but her career started when she was 16. As a young boy, I used to watch American Bandstand. I remember the host Dick Clark interviewing her. I was so impressed by her singing, that I can remember that episode in great detail over six decades later.
Listen to WBGO out of Newark and you may hear Etta James sing this song, and only Etta James because she owns this song. If autotune Beyonce did cover this song I can't understand why you would ever want to listen to it again after hearing a real voice like Etta's sing it.
You really can't go wrong with any choice of song from Etta James. Suggested possible reaction to Etta James "All I Could Do Was Cry (live) and Etta James version of " A Misty Blue" both Fire
This started out as a big band song with a more upbeat tempo. You can see it in the film called “Orchestra Wives” by Glen Miller. A lot of credit for the success of the Etta James version should go to Riley Hampton who did a fantastic job of arranging the song for Etta James’ style of music.
I often wonder just How Many Wedding Receptions that this song was used for the new couples 1st dance . I Really Loved how this was used in the movie "Pleasantville" as the towns B&W world was slowly changing into BRIGHT with Light , Color , with the then young stars , Tobey Maguire , Reese Witherspoon & Paul Walker .
Someone you should check out, Joshua Ledet, he was an American Idol contestant a few years back. My favorite song he did was It’s A Man’s World, but everything he did was amazing, I know you will love his singing.
Beautiful voice, for sure! You might be interested in checking out a great cover of this by Austin Brown (from the a capella group, Home Free!). It's on his channel and he sings it in the same key as Etta! 😳🎶❤ He does am amazing job!
This is great by Etta but you spoke of many covers of this classic. Including Celine Dion, Beyonce and many others BUT for the very latest cover of this classic, go to the recent live concert by the incredible Lucy Thomas who knocks this out of the park.
Lou Rawls also covered this song beautifully. I think I heard his version before I heard the original by Etta James. There’s something about his deep voice that really showcases the song in my opinion. Not to take anything away from her, I just enjoy his version also.
Now go to Austin Brown’s, of Home Free, channel and hear him sing this song in the same key as Etta! Why? Because he can! He’s fantastic and will amaze you! Please check it out and react to it! Thanks!
read an article or watch a movie about her life; dude, talkin bout a conflicted life. she was a mess for sure but there was no greater talent as far as bluesy adult contemporary music!

One of my favorite songs ever!
So glad you picked this. Her version is a classic and you are correct in saying it is HER song.
She's the best. NO ONE CAN BEAT HER on this original. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Timeless. ♥♥♥
Just sweet perfection! Thank you for reacting.
She is such a legend. ❤❤❤❤❤
Barack and Michelle dancing to this was more than special...it was like a fairytale come true 🎉🎉
For those of us who grew up on AM radio it’s nostalgic.
I have her Best of in my cd player. I also really like her Sunday Morning Kind of Love,
❤️❤️❤️
Thank God you finally found this. It's my favorite of her songs. I love love love this song.

Cyndi Lauper sang this song in an episode of Bones, when Bones and Booth get married!!! She did a great job!!🎵🎼🎶🎙🎧🎹🎤🎸🥁🥁🔥🔥🔥
Queen of the Blues
Her version is the only one I know, & she sings it beautifully.

A fun 1960’s song is Secret Agent Man.
The OG of this song
In the great movie “Cadillac Records” , Beyoncé portrays Etta James and sings a very moving version of this song towards the end of the film

Lucy Thomas really did this one justice. Glad you found the original!
