I imagine it was scrapped because of various lines referring to this being once in an Age only, which isn't true for the Liberation rites, and also people actually dying in the flame. Possibly an earlier version of the liberation rite where there the losers died.
"The fires are lit, the exiles lay their claim / some shall prevail, some perish in the flame" That's more world-building and scene-setting in two lines than other people manage in their entire game. Also gives me goosebumps every time. Can't fathom why it is absent from the final game.
Lyrics: We come to a time, when once an age The Eight Scribes gather before us The stars have aligned that the lucky few Might rise from the torment of solus The Rites begin anew The mercy of our Scribes... The fires are lit, the exiles lay their claim Some shall prevail, some perish in the flame By full moonlight, may we revoke our shame For Soliam Murr, the final of his name Who shall rise again? The final price to leave this cursed plain Who shall ascend? Whose failure shall remain? By morning rise, who shall be free again? Who shall rise again? Is it our doom to be aimless? Favor is for the true Scribe-blessed Lighten your spirit's load, confess Only the purest heart repents Repent! Our patrons watch, as righteous fires burn To seek the mercy of the nobles spurned To fly this prison, never to return Never to return...
Onyx Dragon Thank you for this shot about the lyrics, I was trying to figure them out but many pieces were missing, well done! By the way, I think it's "from the torment of Solis", as it's the name of the fall. But some of the words are still missing and I can't understand them :( Anyway, these alternate versions (even this unused one) are really impressive. But this is the only one with lyrics you can't find on the Internet... Maybe with a few more tries, we will have the full lyrics and we will be able to sing it properly! (PS: Maybe "and the/a lucky few" makes more sense? PPS: "By full moon flight" ?)
Ashley Barret definitely sounds like a new character in this, which I like. but it does feel too... threatening? The official one is much more sad, since win or lose, theres going to be some sorrow. Also it kinda sounds like the loser dies in this?
I kind of like the fire in her voice. Makes me think you'll do a little more than lose an opportunity if you fail. Just feel the edge in her voice. You can tell someones going to die at this event.
OMG! That is epic! Thanks! Its like...the sum of almost every other iteration of the song, with different elements from different triumvirate's themes.
I kinda can imagine this being sun by Mae if none of the Nightwings made it out, as they become the Scribes of the New Age. The Nightwings literally followed the footsteps of the Scribes of old. The order of assembly, the celestial landmarks the Stars have led them to during their first ascension upon the Mount Alodiel. It all checks out almost to the letter of the Book of Rites. And ultimately, they would've given up their freedom, so others may yet have theirs (if they wouldn't make it out from the Downside as I presumed). Mae and the Reader would've been the new Heralds - they walked with them , and witnessed them.
This version has way less of the holy/ritualistic hymn vibes that the final version has, it's noticeably more energetic, it sounds mroe like a typical boss theme and I can see why they moved away from it to have the song focus mroe on both the tension and the player's semi-tragedy at the fact you are literally playing towards mechanical permadeath, even if it is a good thing in the narrative.
This version of song is dark, but beautiful ^^ Also, somehow it reminds me of Sandra and Beyonders. Am I alone here? And yeah, I'm probably late. Also also, thanks for finding and posting this ^^
I get the impression that the tone of this game shifted from: "Revere the rights and feel shame for your transgressions against the Commonwealth" to "Screw the Commonwealth! Let's get as many people as we can back up there to burn the place to the ground" ha ha.
Before you judge it too hard, remember that it's an unreleased song, and that I did much of the mixing myself. So don't put too much blame on the song, just me.
It sounds like this was meant to be a song for the Rites restarting? Maybe for a scrapped NG+ type deal
Someone asked on Twitter, and apparently it was just a beta version. Updating the title for accuracy.
They need to put it in the first Liberation Rite of NG+.

i was thinking it was supposed to be used for vs. matches where neither player picked the nightwings
Also the Mandolin is missing in the background unlike in the other version.

Maybe this was a part of the beta where there wasn't Tariq yet or they just had Celeste singing for the Liberation Rites
Lyrics:
We come to a time, when once an age
The Eight Scribes gather before us
The stars have aligned that the lucky few
Might rise from the torment of solus
The Rites begin anew
The mercy of our Scribes...
The fires are lit, the exiles lay their claim
Some shall prevail, some perish in the flame
By full moonlight, may we revoke our shame
For Soliam Murr, the final of his name
Who shall rise again?
The final price to leave this cursed plain
Who shall ascend? Whose failure shall remain?
By morning rise, who shall be free again?
Who shall rise again?
Is it our doom to be aimless?
Favor is for the true Scribe-blessed
Lighten your spirit's load, confess
Only the purest heart repents
Repent!
Our patrons watch, as righteous fires burn
To seek the mercy of the nobles spurned
To fly this prison, never to return
Never to return...

Yeah, I heard the same. But the last part sounded more like "To seek the mercy of the noble scourge" to me.
I think it's solus which means to be alone or unaccompanied.
I could be wrong but I think it makes more sense.
could "spurned" actually be "spurred"?

WOW, That INTRO! I wish they’d kept that part for the first Rite, at least...?
OMG! That is epic! Thanks!

I can get behind this headcanon
Same here
I think you meant Tae.
I mean Bae.
The beginning makes it sound like a catholic hymm
I suspect that aspect was no accident, given the 'religious ritual' overtones of the Rites.
It’s definitely based on that. Sounds just like what I’d hear at Temple.

How'd you even find this?! It's so beautiful and awesome!
Game file digging
Thank you for uploading this.
THE FIRES ARE 🔥🔥 LIT 🔥🔥

Such a shame Pyre didn't get a song where only Ashley Barrett sings.
Knowing that Darren Korb has his solo...yeah xD
Amazing.
This version is dope! Weird not to hear Tariq though, and the lyrics are a little hard to hear.
And i thought my soundtrack was complete...
it will be now, me!
Hope this will be a bonus song.
Sounds like church music
The intro at least
Well it technically IS religious in a way
damn your local church playing this kind of bangers?
How did you get this track?
I wanna like it but it's a mess.
Unlike the other songs it's not clear and there's a lot of overlapping cacophony.
Before you judge it too hard, remember that it's an unreleased song, and that I did much of the mixing myself. So don't put too much blame on the song, just me.
Well it is an unused prototype
Lyrics?
How did you find this????
Game files
It sounds nice, but it doesn't sound as good as the original. I don't know. Something about it just sounds off.
