    Everybody in the comments are just ragging on this lady because of her stature or because she's not macho enough to interview a guy like this. But she's conducting very good interview! She doesn't interject and personally attack the interviewee like many people do on political or historical topics. She just asks the question and gives the guy time to answer. Good job Seshnee

    My grandfather fought world war II North Africa and I remember him telling me that the best soldiers he ever came across were South Africans. Later in life I had the good fortune to make friends with a Rhodesian and a couple South Africans. Good honest guys. Something about the general mindset just sort of set them apart.

    There are those who will never see the conflict as anything less than defending apartheid because to do so would make their narrow minds explode

      How else would you describe it? Removing the apartheid aspect - I'm curious, since at one time, I was looking to write a book on the "Wars of Liberation" - Thank you in advance for your answer...

    • @Ghoulza
      @Ghoulza 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@investinginamerica5582 it was a war against communism, had nothing to do with apartheid... the idea that it did came from people using that as a way to get people to fight against South Africa. remember at the time SA was just trying to defend the now Namibia from terrorist attacks made by swapo... who where armed and trained by East Germany Russia and others..... we where asked to go into Angola but the US as Russia was trying to create a puppet government there, Cuba was also moving in... so in the 1970's 75-76 we went in and also took control of Angola, it was not the objective but it was that easy..... US publicly condemned SA for being in Angola and ordered us out (this after asking us to go in..) so we left... after that it was a complicated war against swapo and PLAN who where moving deeper into Angola for protection... right until then end when UNITA asked us in again in the 1980's 87-89 as Cuba and MPLA forces had pushed them so far south they where close to being overrun, which would have handed Russia Angola.... we once agian mounted a full scale assault in and pushed Cuba and MPLA passed the lomba river and stopped them there, after that Russia told Cuba it was hopeless and they where pulling out, Cuba came to the negotiating table and we agreed with Cuba to leave Angola and let them sort it out.... swapo was disarmed after the april 89 attack and free election where held in South west africa which resulted in a swapo win....nothing about any of that was apartheid related.... it has been spun as Cuba being protectors and trying to help stamp out apartheid but that was after they where kicked out and needed a way to save face ... it's obviously more complecated than that but that is the basics.

    Jou boek is 'n baie eerlike weergawe van 'n Recce soldaat. Ek het dit werklik geniet, synde jou eerlikheid, terwyl daar soveel wanpersepsies en ongekwalifiseerde rondloop weergawes is v.d. menslike aspek om 'n Recce te wees. • @stewartw.9151
    @stewartw.9151 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Those who decry the idea today that SA was fighting Communism are either lying propagandists or have very short memories.
    I personally saw the Communist build up into Mozambique - it was very real and the troops,aircrew and offensive aircraft, tanks etc were not there for a holiday! A friend is today paraplegic after his Mirage was hit by a missile over Angola in the 1980s, fired by a Cuban Communist pilot flying a Mig.
    The first contacts between the ANC and the Politburo of the Soviet regime were in 1921 when the ANC sent a delegation to beg for support. By 1928 the Soviets did commit to 'moral and materiel suport' of the ANC in their struggle for liberation.

    • @antzontoast
      @antzontoast 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes but was communism really a threat or were we just being fed 'rooi gevaar' propaganda? Remember it was the British aristocracy as well as wealthy American industrialists like Ford, DuPont and Bush who bankrolled Hitler for various reasons, as well as the banisters. The Russians won WW2 ultimately, and ultimately they won in Africa against Colonialism but you don't see Russian being spoken anywhere in Africa. However there is a container shop in every township in Africa were Chinese is spoken?

    • @stewartw.9151
      @stewartw.9151 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      antzontoast - I am sure the Nat govt. played up and probably exaggerated the threat at every opportunity. But it was real and tangible in the form of weaponry ready for use if the Soviets and surrogates had seen a good opportunity. The fact that they did not get that opportunity does not cancel out the threat!

The MPLA invited the communists to help them against the FNLA and UNITA, and the latter invited the west which included the CIA and South Africa. South Africa was there initially to train the FNLA and UNITA forces. Your hate is based upon fear and indoctrination.
      As a matter of interest the Cuban and MPLA forces massacred 70000 FNLA civillan supporters (CIA fact book).

    4:46 He claims he didn't defend apartheid, yet he went on to murder people who opposed apartheid or fled into exile on behalf of the apartheid regime. This person is completely out of touch with reality.

      You are out of touch. Do you know that more than 7.5 million from all over Africa, sought refuge in SA, under apartheid, in pursuit of jobs, medical care, housing, safety, education---basics not available in the 53 communist, one party, military and Islam fascist dictatorships of Africa
