  • They sound SOOO different!!!! What a vibe this one was - it's our second song reaction from Ateez and man, we didn't expect such a big change, especially coming from Deja Vu, and hearing that Deja Vu and Eternal Sunshine are like companion pieces! Well, it doesn't matter - we loved it, and we're going to react to more!!
Kpop producers and singer-songwriters react to ATEEZ's Eternal Sunshine (MV). Enjoy!

At this point ATEEZ lore is very expansive and intriguing, arguably one of the best in kpop. I recommend checking out BookishTheories here on yt and watching their interpretation of the atz storyline. However i can tell you the connection between Deja Vu and EtSun. At the end of deja vu we see one of the members breaking an hourglass, in atz lore the hourglass is called a cromer and is responsible for interdimensional travel as well as communicating with others in dreams depending on the phases of the moon. Ateez are travelling between dimensions to help their alternate selves rebel against the leaders of a dystopian society. In that society, all forms of art and self expression are banned since it causes emotions and emotions a bad thus it makes the world imperfect. The gov't of that world brainwashes their citizens so everyone is numb. However ateez's alternate selves called Halateez (characterized by black masks and fedoras) leads a rebellion to make the people feel again, but they are losing the battle and well they asked ateez to take their place. So now atz in deja vu are invading the enemy's bunker but they get intoxicated by a hallucinogen which is the yellow light you can see in some scenes. Therefore, in etsun they are in that hallucinated state where the sun shines while it snows and they are their carefree selves.
i think that's how the theory goes for the most part.

The reason why people tie Eternal Sunshine and Deja Vu together is that they were the two title tracks from the Fever 3 album. Most of their albums have 2 title tracks and the fans get to pick which one is the main title track. It's a cool thing that they do even though they haven't done it in their most recent comebacks.
Also the rapper with orange hair in the video is Hongjoong, and he's also the leader of the group. He and Mingi are the two rappers in Ateez and I love that they have completely differently sounds and styles because together they add so much dimension and completeness to the song.

One of my favorite things about Ateez is that put their songs on shuffle and you will rarely get two songs in a row that sound similar, and none of them miss. Ever.
Highly highly suggest reacting to Halazia next. It's their newest song and it is such a banger

    • @bridget5052

This exactly! Not only do they have songs that hype me up, but they also have songs that just like one giant big hug when I need it. It's why they are one of my all time favorites. Add all the lore into the mix and I was hooked.

  • @origaby4724

Had to laugh when you said different hair because they have the same hair colors as in Deja Vu. Just styled a bit differently. It is their makeup, clothes, and facial expressions that are different. The duality is so evident in these 2 tracks and can be seen in other tracks like Halazia (darker side) and Wave (brighter side).

Yes, the rapper you were going crazy for is Hongjoong, the leader (or as he is known to his group, Captain, as their theme is pirates). Eternal Sunshine and Deja Vu are off the same album. Ateez has this thing where they will have the fans (and their friends, family, others in the industry) vote between two songs for the title track, but they will film an MV for both, so the one that wins gets released first as the title track, and the other one gets released like a week later. They started this with their debut album Treasure EP 1: All to Zero with songs "해적왕 (Pirate King)" and "Treasure" and have continued that with subsequent albums including ZERO:FEVER Part.3 which "Deja Vu" and "Eternal Sunshine" are from. ATEEZ are so cool and you might enjoy getting to know them as people as well as getting to know their music. There is so much to uncover, I'm looking forward to watching your journey.

You should really start at the beginning (Pirates King/Treasure) to see the amazing progression of their sound- to prepare you for HALAZIA, their latest MASTERPIECE❤️❤️❤️ Subscribed for ATEEZ! Can’t wait to watch your journey!

Fun Fact: STRAY KIDS and ATEEZ are friends and highly respect each others work. Both groups worked together with BTOB on KINGDOM and it was some of the best lockdown TV, they all just complemented each other so well. Epic. We're all waiting for a new collab! At KCON in LA last year, when asked who they would like to collab with, Bang Chan answered "ATEEZ", so we live in hope!
The culture/fashion magazine i-D ("originate - don't imitate") just ran a wonderful article on ATEEZ who are currently on world tour. It had lots of little gems about the individual members and I recommend it to you as newbie ATINYs. It's titled ATEEZ ARE SHOWING THE WORLD ANOTHER SIDE OF KPOP. The author, Taylor Glasby, quotes HONGJOONG (leader, pink hair in this vid, the rapper whose tone you liked) as saying “These days, when I write lyrics or produce a song, I just start from zero...before, if we had a pirate theme, for example, I would start with that as a topic. That’s why I found it so hard.” He now works backward, getting down exactly what he wants to say before connecting it to the narrative markers. “It’s quite different but it’s more comfortable for me and the results are better than before.”
You can't go wrong with ATEEZ, but I think this explanation accounts for the massive leap in development we're seeing with them lately. They were always creating great music and performances, but lately they just seem to be stepping up another level. HALAZIA, their latest, is extraordinary (you have to watch their dance practice videos too - they're so skilled!). But like some of the others have suggested here, maybe you should go back to some of their earlier stuff first so you can see the progression and also absorb their message by osmosis as you go along.

Start at the beginning: Pirate King. The sounds of that song in headphones is 🤯🔥. All of their MVs tie into their lore and it’s a very deepset storyline. But all of their sounds are so different from their previous. Idk how they do it.

Ateez discography is just a masterpiece, every song is different and they use a lot of different genres, but each of them is a masterpiece. None of the songs are similar, but still if you hear them you know that's Ateez and this sounds just like Ateez. As for the rappers Ateez has two rappers: hongjoong, the guy with the orange hair and mingi the guy with the grey/silver hair. Hongjoong is also the leader of the group and he also is involved in producing and writing his own lyrics, one of his self produced songs is “Aurora”, which is a b-side, but a fan favourite, so I recommend checking it out. Mingi also produces and writes his own lyrics for his rap, but he hasn’t revealed his self produced songs yet. Also they both have signature lines: hongjoong always giggles before his rap and mingi says “fix on”, which is a word play out of his name, because his full name is song mingi and if you repeatedly say it you can hear “fix on” and it also means that you should fix your ears to his coming rap. And another thing you should know is Ateez often has double title tracks and they let the fans and public vote on which will be the final official title track of the album by releasing performance previews. Also I recommend to listen to their title and b-sides because their b-sides are amazing too and some of them could be a title track as their own.

  • @SlothQueenX
    @SlothQueenX ปีที่แล้ว +11

I mean, if they want to keep going on this train, I would say they should do their double title track for inception and thanxxs next, if not, going into something kind of in the middle, like turbulence or utopia, or even just going straight all the way back to their double track debut with pirate, king, and treasure to see how it started

Double title tracks Pirate kings / treasure- Say my name / Hala hala - Wave/ Illusion- Inception/Thanx , then you have the bangers Wonderland/ Fireworks /The real/ Rocky Guerilla/ Halazia, the more chill ones Answer, turbulences , then their Bsides a lot of amazing ones Promise, Utopia, Sunrise, Win, Horizon, Precious, The king, Cyberpunk , New world. Their discography is quite extensive and amazing. Enjoy your discovery journey to Ateez.

Thanks for starting the journey of getting to know ATEEZ.
I want to encourage you to watch the MV the first time with minimal comments. Between the song and your talking over it, where you frequently were over-lapping each other in your convo it is difficult for those of us who are hard of hearing to sort out what is being said/sung. If you can keep your commentary down during a first watch or write down you comments and then share them AFTER the MV, it would be most appreciated. Please try not to talk over each other. Your voices have similar registers and it becomes confusing
I learned a lot from your analysis of the choices made for this song. Thanks!
    ATEEZ is the best.

The rapper is Hongjoong-he is very versatile in how he raps. You should listen to his raps in Halazia, Answer, and The Real. Plus he’s very good at slow rap (Not too late a B side his rap is personal and so darn good-he uses his 6 months as the only trainee at KQ as inspiration).
Hongjoong also writes 100% of his raps and a lot of their other lyrics. The songs Aurora and Horizon were written and produced by him (although Edenary uses a team approach to all the songs).
Hongjoong is also the captain of Ateez.
The guy singing the high notes is Jongho. He is the maknae (just turned 22). He has a huge range and can easily belt notes that I (a female) can’t even sing. In their Kingdom version of Wonderland he hits a B5.
He hit a C6 in a high note challenge but has never sung it in a song. He has also hit a D6 just fooling around to see how high he could sing. There is video all over TH-cam of him splitting apples with his bare hands while singing with ease.
He also has several OSTs. Most recently Wind for Our Blooming Youth and Gravity for Reborn Rich.

The main connection is them both being title tracks from the same album that we'd vote between.
If we're talking about the song itself, Eternal Sunshine is a reference to the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In the movie, the main character gets his memories removed gradually and at some point wishes to keep at least one, while in the song we get "If I could leave you with one memory / What moment would you like to remember? / If I can leave one memory / It will be this moment".
You're not familiar with Ateez's whole storyline so I'll give you some very basic context: our Ateez got dragged to a dystopian parallel dimension by their darker counterparts we call Halateez (after the song Hala Hala from their first comeback) to help fight against a regime that banned all art to prevent people from feeling emotions (the worldbuilding inspired by the classics of the dystopian genre including Fahrenheit 451 and Equilibrium). What we saw in Deja Vu was Ateez (or possibly Halateez) in hiding.
One thing that the government does there is remove people's memories - they can be stored or burned, and the smoke puts people in a trance, a sort of mix of memories and dreams. If you watch some more Ateez MVs you'll notice that the city in the Eternal Sunshine vid is the same city we see in the MVs showing the dystopian universe. If you put it together with the lyrics and the reference in the song's title it suggests that the MV is set in the same universe as Deja Vu and it might be a memory or a dream, maybe of Halateez, and it shows the setting from Deja Vu (that's all dark) back when it was bright, or maybe how bright it could be if things were different.
Looking forward to your future reactions! If you'd like to follow the plot further the next MVs to check out would be Halazia (it shows an external POV that's a bit hard to place chronologically) and Guerrilla (where they finally start the rebellion against the government).

Some songs I would definitely recommend you listen to: Halazia (their latest comeback), Pirate King (debut song), Cyberpunk and Break the Wall (both from their 2022 comeback, but honestly most songs on that album deserve a listen like Sector 1, The Ring, New World). Musically speaking I would recommend Aurora as well, a song that HongJoong wrote.

Ateez tend to have this very epic, larger than life, “I want to go to war” kind of vibe with their music. Pirate King, Wonderland, Thanxx, and Guerrilla are great examples of this. They also have a very elegant and grandiose side of them with Treasure, Answer, Inception, and Halazia (their most recent song). They can also be bright and upbeat like Eternal Sunshine in Wave and Illusion. I highly recommend them thank you for watching!!

Ateez are extremely versatile in their discography-especially if you explore some B sides (Mist, Aurora, Take Me Home, Horizon, and Celebrate all have completely different vibes but are amazing).
Pirate King was their debut song and was paired with Treasure-these two songs are also pretty opposite.
Halazia is their most recent comeback and is also just an ear pleasing song in every aspect.

ATEEZ!!! I commented on one of SKZ reactions & I say again...since y'all are producers, you must check out PIRATE KING (Hangeul), SAY MY NAME, HALA HALA, HALAZIA. The musical movement, sounds, adlibs...I can't wait to see your opinions on the prodiction. Also, unlike SKZ they don't self produce. The have a specific production team, Eden-ary, that Hong Joong is a part of. He writes songs, too. Voices, dance, visual, production...the whole package & more.

Actually, What’s surprising is that they have the same hair colors and styles as in “Deja Vu” MV but the vibe is so different they even look and feel like different people! Ateez is extremely diverse and have one of the most range in discography. They are all rounders with amazing vocals, rap, dance, visuals🧡🖤🧡🖤
They even take part in production, especially rappers Hongjoong (orange hair, the leader) and Mingi (grey hair, deep voice) who write their own lyrics for the songs and are one of the top copyright credited K-pop artists!
Also the little teasers at the end do hint to future songs. The song at the end of Eternal Sunshine is “The Real” and at the end of Deja Vu is “Turbulence,” which are also double title tracks.
Ateez has one of the biggest and deepest storylines, which involves pirates “treasure-seekers” and time traveling with alternative universes.
So happy about this reaction- thanks for the analysis guys!❤❤❤

Someone's probably already said it, but the way they two are linked is exactly what you said -- they're exact opposites. They're two different versions of Ateez in alternate dimensions experiencing the opposite things.
