    There's an interesting interaction that wasn't touched on with regards to TN manipulation, granted it's only discussed in the KS manuscript for Sidereals. If the TN is subject to Doubles or rerolls, the roller no longer needs to apply them if the changed TN will no longer make them beneficial (e.g. you have double 7's but the enemy Siddie raised your TN, your double 7's are negated; on another roll, you use a charm that Rerolls 6s and an ally Siddie reduced your TN, then you won't reroll your 6s).

      That's interesting. I haven't gotten around to reading Sidereals yet.

    Between this video and the Exigent book, Ive felt more comfortable trying to make charms to fill in the gaps, I love Lunars the most but often I feel some of the charm trees end too soon. Many Faced Strangers helped for sure, but now I want to add more. The Lunar charm Bone-Mending Technique is nice, but for a later Exalt with a massive pool, it gets hard to use. You start with 7 health levels so someone on deaths door is already difficulty 7 roll, but a Stamina 5 Lunar with multiple Ox Bodys becomes a true challenge to heal. Solars just use their medicine charms and boom healign starts, but a maxed Lunar can have 21 health levels. A fully stunned Excelleny can give a Lunar with it 21 dice, but you'd need good luck for that, even using Flesh-Sculpting Art to reroll ones my test rolls often failed, so I designed this to help later.
    "Luna's Greatest Mercy"
    Intelligence 5, Essence 3
    Cost 4m
    Type Supplemental
    Keywords none
    Duration Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Bone-Mending Technique, Flesh-Sculpting Art, Night's Mercy Panacea
    Insert flavor text here
    Mechanics: Gain double 9s on rolls to use Bone-Mending Technique to speed along healing. If her treatment is based on having personally received or treated before, she adds (Lore) none-charm dice. With Intelligence 5, the Lunar may pay a five-mote surgcharge to double 8s.
    With an essence 4 repurchase, the Lunar may pay a six-mote, one-Willpower surcharge to double 7s.
    I thought of making it Essence 4 but otherwise feel its pretty good, Id love feedback. Its biggest use really is to help heavily injured exalts with a lot of ox body to avoid failing multiple rolls after spending 30+ motes and a wp to attempt to start the healing process. My ST gave me the okay and obviously he is the final arbitar of that but more feedback always feels great.

      I think this Charm can be written as a Permanent upgrade to Bone-Mending Technique, and possibly be improved in other ways. Your Charm makes it easier to overcome the difficulty on the roll, but I think it turns it into a much heavier investment than it needs to be. Most targets have seven health levels, which could give Bone-Mending Technique a difficulty ranging from 1 to 7, with an average being 4. This means that you can expect to have to meet an average difficulty 4 when using the Charm. This is easy enough to pull off without having to buy an extra Charm, and you could always use an Excellency to improve your dice pool. So, I don't think making it double 9s-7s is as valuable as it looks. Unless ...
      Example: "By adding four motes to the cost of Bone-Mending Technique, any threshold success over the difficulty is added to the patient's healing rate. If the treatment is based on a previously introduced fact, the roll has double 9s."
      I think four motes is enough for this, since it has the potential to vary in outcome, and it takes the total Charm cost to a nice even 10m, 1wp. The original Charm already has a condition that increases healing rate, which makes it boring to just add the effect of additional healing rate, so maybe that condition could add double 9s instead. If you want to add extra repurchases for double 8s and 7s, I don't think you need to increase the Charm cost further, since you already pay for the repurchases, and the Charm already costs a lot.

      I find that most combat specced exalts end up having huge health pools and bone mending technique's difficulty makes it useless to heal your allies. I like adding the double numbers portion.

    Very good work as always, it gave me some new ideas and a new perspective to my Charm/Evocation creating projects.
    Well à propos ideas, I wonder if it would have been better, if the Sidereals would have Essence based Charms, instead of Ability based Charms. In terms of your interpretation of Essence based Charms, it would fit the Sidereal theme. And I guess it wouldnt be that weird that some Sidereal Charms benefit action that would normally supported by other abilities, like damaging an Undead Creature with Medicine and so on.

    This was very helpful. I am not sure what the accessibility of Sidereals 3rd is outside of the people who already backed it, but I was trying to update some 2e Sidereal content so I could keep my game going. Learned a lot of things I could change or clarify right away, such as changing a counterattack tag to a clash tag. I can't wait for Exigents to come out! And was the outnumbered mechanic purely your own or is there a mechanic I missed in the Solar corebook? I need to read more! If there is an outnumbered bonus I totally missed it or confused it with the battle group mechanics.

    • @KnallisSillan
      @KnallisSillan 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ah, forgot to mention. while trying to improve solar charms for my group, I found it helpful for me to splice and merge charms together. Hopefully none of them are too powerful, but in so doing I did adopt a tag of my own early on simply called Toggle. It lists a permanent effect and then a paid effect you can toggle on that builds off the permanent effect. the charm bloat is too real otherwise!

    • @qwcew
      @qwcew 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Technically there isn't an outnumbered bonus, Onslaught Penalties are the closest things too them. There is also the Engage action that Battle Groups can take but that's more of a reskinned grapple action.
      God the charm bloat for Solars is insane, I'm glad that design philosophy was left behind when they moved to the other splats.
      Out of curiosity, how did you decide which charms to merge/splice? I suppose one easy method is to merge any effects that give are mainly a numerical improvement to a previous charm. You could also make similar charms be repurchases of the 'base' one but at higher Essence/Ability scores.

    • @HWJoker
      @HWJoker 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@qwcew And dont forget the action economy in Exalted, this alone gives the outnumbered person a huge disadvantage and makes it hard to not get crashed or to get out of crash after being crashed.

    • @KnallisSillan
      @KnallisSillan 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@qwcewThat is one of the things I looked for, yes. I also tried to take Charms that look too niche or weak or situational and turn them into icing on the cake effects with other charms. The biggest offenders were Charms that are clearly just place-holders on the way to stronger Charms. Lastly, any Charms that fit this description but are powerful enough to be worth buying them, I turned them into upgrade Charms instead of separate Charms. For example I merged Mind-Cleansing Prana and Clear Mind Discipline, and most Performance Charms struck me as senselessly redundant. Looks like I also collapsed Unimpeachable Discourse Method into Culture Hero Approach.

    Definining intimacies usually correlate to +-4 dice on a roll though

    • @ekorren
      @ekorren  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're thinking of how it correlates to social influence. It isn't supposed to correlate in this Charm because it is a persistent effect. It is more like a wound penalty or another crippling debilitation. A more appropriate penalty probably would have been -2 with Minor not giving any, but the Charm was mainly there to illustrate the method.

    • @tempy2440

    • @ekorren
      @ekorren  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tempy2440 I see what you mean. I checked the section you were refering to and it states that Defining Intimacies have equivalent value to four dice for the sake of effects. You should assume four dice if nothing else is specified. You still need to take into account the context of the Charm. You can relate Intimacies to other values if you specify that in the Charm text. A persistent -4 penalty would be inappropriate for this Charm, even if it is Defining.
