Please tell me people didn't take 'Night Thoughts' seriously at the time.

Remember when Lucozade was considered a healthy drink to take to patients in hospital?
Now it is considered to be toxic!

I rather fear they did. I'm a tyne tees girl ...I don't remember us having cracking closing music of the night playing like this, but I was 11 at the time so missed a lot of these epilogue type programmes. The ones I did see were always places in a library set with people of this lady's age presenting some waffle . I thought it was to help send you to sleep because they were always so boring and I wonder what the viewership actually was....maybe it was only me watching ?! Scary thought. I loved playing name that tune though. I could never figure out how they would get it!on just one note cos it could have been anything! Any other clues went over my head.

To be honest, this is rather upbeat music for a Thames closedown compared to what they'd usually play.

Tyne Tees’s epilogues always saw a clergyman reading from the Bible - only lasted for about five minutes - then the duty announcer would give a quick précis of what was to come, then play the National Anthem over a still of Her Majesty (we still had a Queen in those days), the screen would go blank, then the announcer would tell us to switch off our sets, then run their finger around a glass of water to generate that horrible noise!

@@arthurvasey those were the days! I may have still had a black and white portable with a rotary dial at the time but I may have had my colour one by then. I can also just see Judi Lines and her wine glass signing off for the evening too...

Norman still hasn't found a job. His wife changed her name to Yoko Ono and ran off with John Lennon..... funny ol' world ain't it?
