Yeah I'm trying to get the Dimebag Darrell too I'm planning on buying an Jackson King V in army green with a Floyd Rose and a Randall RG80 to play some riffs from Pantera Cowboys From Hell and Metallica ...And Justice For All.
i dont exactly have a dime tone, but i got close with a 6 band eq, metal zone pedal for boost and 462 sonic maximizer, i got a really sick metal tone, jamming a Bill Lawrence l500xl a dimebucker, and a Legendary gatekeeper in my bridges, dude even my stock bridge pickup in my Harley Benton sounds killer with that setup
Nah, you'd want to get a century 200 or something, but try the boss katana, you can get the software to sound pretty damn close, but just make sure to scoop the mids with some sort of eq and then turn the gain ALL the way up and possibly look for a guitar with either dimebuckers or sh-13/sh-15
the gain sounds a bit grainy, but there's definitely a great power/price ratio here. if the gain weren't to taste, a player could always use the amp's cleans, then drive it a bit with a pedal. great demo!
The RG80 is a metal amp. It's plug and play. The clean and dirty channel's share the same eq. The reverb is decent at lower settings. Headphone jack sounds great. I'm still trying my pedal chain out with it. My Boss Metal Zone and DOD 7 band eq work well with the amp. You have to make some serious adjustments. Still working on that. All by itself it sounds great.
Im looking at either the RG80 or RG1003. Have you tried the OD on the fx return line? If so your take on it? Either one I gets its going line out to a 4x12 cab.
Im a classic rock guy who apprrciates their ruggedness and dependability. Just curious, is this product not very suitable for such? Havent owned a Randall in 20 years
Randall is an American made amp. I own a older model RG80 and it takes pedals very well.. It is a rugged amp, I used mine for a number of years, and it keeps on going
Wha'ts the reverb like? I'm a surf, reverb junkie and I'm thinking about this as a backup and practice amp. Could always run pedals, but i prefer natural verb.
+Blake Wright the reverb, sounds like a little amp reverb. If its all you got then I guess it'll do. But personally I've heard better. I would use this amp as a basic straight up amp,the on board extras aren't really anything to write home about. The amp its self is a good little work horse as long as you are playing the right genre of music for it. Hope this helps
Come on did you have to cut your soloing to the backing track? You're a tasteful player, and really got some great blues in ya! I also feel the Ritchie Blackmore strongly
Turn the treble down, please. That "Bass boost" is boosting some mids, more than lows. A treble boost? This isn't a Vox. You can obviously get more than acceptable clean & dirty sounds with this amp. I've also heard a good distortion pedal sounds very good on the clean channel. I'd like to hear something like a BE Deluxe or SLO pedal through the loop. But through a cab? Plenty of volume & for solid state? Randall does their thing.
Erick Moreno I own one and it is perfect for that. Plenty loud. I prefer using an overdrive pedal over the 2nd channel, but it is a well built and rugged amp.
i own one. very nice bright light gain in clean channel. small an light for 80 watts and cheap. not great for classic rock overdrive. distortion is metal more and with no separate tone controls for the metal channel its hard to use i think. i use pedals with clean metal and its decent for price and watta
That's the downfall of so many modern solid state amps. "Here's your clean clean channel, and here's you full-bore high gain channel". All possible tones in between are excluded. Modern Marshall MGs are the same. Better off with something like a Peavey or an 80s/90s Fender single channel solid state. Mine goes from clean to high gain and anywhere in between just by dialing the preamp and gain control.
I think rhythm guitar should have a ice full baddy but bright sound so it not muddy but not to bright for rhythm if you listen to Paul Gilbert he's a very bright player and cuts through the bass lines and rhythm guitar now it also depends on your band if you have a very loud and prominate bass player that's her very well then you don't need as much bass to fill up your sound so it's not thin but if you have Avery scared and not heard bass player then one kick him out and find a better bass player but your need more bass to fill up your sound to keep it full same thing with you play a G chord it sound full because there bright and low end frequency and many octaves now you probably gonna laugh at half the stuff I said cause I am only a 13 your boy who learned so stuff from his dad and tried to self teach him self so sorry if I wasted your time but you asked for my opinion so I would keep a nice full bright but not to bright with some bass to keep a full sound but not to muddy for rhythm or lead but for lead I would keep the bass where it is and dial in so more treble and gain for saturation and full sound but yet again dependent the band and if you even have one
Sorry, not good demo of this amps potential. No bass boost??? I own this amp, bass boost definitely adds bass. This is good amp, it will do country, it will do jazz, the treble boost give you perfect crystal cleans, does rock ok, but get a reverb pedal cause it's reverb sucks. The scooped metal sound is beyond impressive though. If you are looking for a metal amp, this is it. Hit the scoop, hit the bass boost, drop the mids, treb up, bass up, gain all the way, smart gate, will play the heaviest of metal no problem. Bass kicks you in the chest.
I have this and it sounds like shit trying to play anything in b tuning. I can dial it in and almost get that bite. Use a boost pedal or distortion pedal and it wont even work with them and sounds like fart. Even trying to use it in the effects loop and bypassing the pre amp it sucks.. this is a horrible amp. Also the headphones sound like shit in the amp
never mind mate live and learn. They aren't the most versatile of amps so if you were looking for an amp to cover you for more than just old school metal then as you have found out its not the amp for you. did you buy it from a shop?
My best advice ever is find a good old fashioned bricks and mortar shop where you can go and try the gear out. Tone is always going to be something that is unique to the individual. And when you find a good shop and get to know the guys that work there, they will look after you. Where are you from?
Peavey bandit 112 vs randall rg80? Qual melhor ?
1983 I bought an rg 80. I'm still using it. I'm thinking these won't be as good but who knows.
The "ground lift" is for British voltage in the UK
Would this be good for a dime tone? I know the rg1003 is but I can’t find any cheap enough
Yeah I'm trying to get the Dimebag Darrell too I'm planning on buying an Jackson King V in army green with a Floyd Rose and a Randall RG80 to play some riffs from Pantera Cowboys From Hell and Metallica ...And Justice For All.
For Dime tone, no

thanks for the comment dude but to be honest the clean sound isn't the best. Where you from ?
well at least this randall has a lot of power for the price. cheers from seattle!
its not a bad little amp thanks for watching
I would love to visit Seattle
Outstanding review thank you so very much for answering an important question for me.. God bless and may you prosper..
+Damon Rothermel Thanks for watching
Thanks for such a thorough tour of the amp's sounds. Very helpful.

very good amp sound. warm and good. is Randal American brand or English ? how does Randal amps react to pedals? disturbing sound ???
Randall is an American made amp. I own a older model RG80 and it takes pedals very well.. It is a rugged amp, I used mine for a number of years, and it keeps on going
does the clean channel share equalizer as well as dirty
I had headphones on with the volume up, and your intro scared the fuck outta me lol.
i got a boss me 80 and thinking of getting this amp, i think i can make it sound sick with that combo, what do u guys think
Wait...So the clean channel has no EQ? Bass, Mids, High controls. I think the EQ works for both channels. Or at least it's supposed to...Right?
Yes. The two channels work off the eq
I'm curious, does the distortion channel have the same amount of gain as ch. 2 or ch. 3 of its RG1003/1503/3003 head counterparts?
What need for a bass boost button when you have a bass knob in the eq?
Is this a stupid question?
Wha'ts the reverb like? I'm a surf, reverb junkie and I'm thinking about this as a backup and practice amp.

thanks dude where are you from?
TheBarry MusicShop New York City!
Could I use this amp for a wide variety of styles?
Turn the treble down, please. That "Bass boost" is boosting some mids, more than lows. A treble boost? This isn't a Vox. You can obviously get more than acceptable clean & dirty sounds with this amp. I didn't even look at any of the post too.
dose this amp run hot...... mine seems to and alot of background noise even when turned down. Just curious thanx
+deevoetee The few that we have had in the shop dont. Hope this helps
it's loud enough to play with a band in small places?
Erick Moreno I own one and it is perfect for that. Plenty loud. I prefer using an overdrive pedal over the 2nd channel, but it is a well built and rugged amp.

its obvious that this guy doesnt know jack about heavy metal, this amplifiers intended target
Heka41 thank you
Lolol right?
Less talk people want to hear the metal sound. This is not a critique its a simple fact. Fender is the jazz amp not Randall

Anyone know the ohms it can take for a speaker cabinet
8 Ohms Minimum!
Good review but also way too much talking, repeting same shit over and over, zzzzzzz I'm falling asleep.
What's the actual weight of this amp
18 kilos
40 lbs
it's really for metal pretty much only good tones
They were using this amp. Back in the 70's
With pedal steel. Also,
The same time the peavey amps were being used in the same way.

Sounds like a fuzz box.
is that a good thing?
TheBarry MusicShop Not to me personally, no. It could suit the tastes of others though.
well said Sir
@@thebarrymusicshop7262 suits my black metal needs very well
too much time blabbering, not enough playing
Clean is slightly dirty
Huh ?
You know what? You ain't got a clue what your on about....JK Love the review, very informative.

Am I the only one who thinks it sounds terrible??
i bought it after hearing all the praise for it and I hate it.
+RexLAPro Im sure there are plenty of people that agree with you
+TheBarry MusicShop I'm sorry, this was a great review and everything, I just feel like I made a really stupid purchase...
never mind mate live and learn.
