Speaking of poverty, differently

Poverty has often been pictured as attributable to the individual, but we should see it instead a failure of society. To combat poverty, we should not shame or penalize people in poverty. We should instead create an economy that is truly inclusive, in which each person is not considered a passive recipient of support, but an actor, co-constructing solutions.

Maybe perhaps it's a nuanced issue and varies from person to person. Maybe you're doing the same thing that those who say that it's all an individual failure. Maybe, just perhaps, your success in life is caused by a multitude of factors including birth status, luck, hard work, natural talent, and other factors both enviromental and personal. Maybe we should be taking a nuanced look at poverty rather than creating a black and white partisan dichotomy. Maybe poverty can be both and how much of individual vs societal varies from person to person.
