Also people don’t realize how little exogenous testosterone you need and still not pop hot. Most fighters who get caught get caught because they took clomid at the end of a cycle and didn’t know they tested for clomid. People act like professional fighters are on as many anabolics as modern bodybuilders are when in reality it’s just a little extra test to keep their levels in the average to high range for what is normal. Mostly keyboard warriors who have never trained a day in their life will accuse fighters of steroids and they probably are the same people that think creatine is a steroid. PEDs will always be prevalent in any sport. If you can’t beat them join them. It levels the playing field.

What better way to grow the sport of BJJ than to build further a name for yourself and for your coaches in the sport of MMA to then return to put on major BJJ events with new vested interest in the sport. That would accelerate the growth of BJJ exponentially in my estimation, rather than remain doing what he’s doing. He’s done it all already.

      I think Gordon Ryan prove himself more than enough in Submission Grappling but I think the main reason he doesn’t want to pursue MMA is because he doesn’t want to go out of his Comfort zone and you are right he is afraid of Failure. Obviously if Gordon Ryan is going to start fighting in MMA a lot of people will watch him fight and there will be Hype behind him. I also believe that he is going to win his first few matches but if he is going to fight some an elite fighter or a contender that has some Elite Wrestling background or Division 1 he is going to be toasted because there is no way that he can land a takedown on those guys and If he lose there will be a lot of criticism about him.

      That said, if Gordo fights in say ONE he might make some okay money. Apparently Brandon Vera was clearing over $100k a fight with ONE to beat up pretty so-so fighters. Gordo might get away with it over at ONE. Roger certainly did.

      Difference is this guy trains with Danaher who is a legit MMA savant. This guy would have already been doing a lot of wrestling and Judo training and when he transitions the focus will just be on picking up striking. And while its not something he would have put a close focus on yet I would guess Danaher has already given him a thorough base in. A lot different to most Jujitsu gyms.

    • @iorekby
      @iorekby 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@David-_-_- That's a decent point, but I'd guess with so much focus on grappling comps training for strikes etc... even the DDS wouldn't get a lot of time to do that much. And it takes about as long to get good at striking as it does to get good at BJJ for most people. Even to get good enough not to get KO'd or lose to a better striker on points, that takes a lot of specialist training. Just ask Kron "Boxing is easy" Gracie about how tough it can be to move in to a sport where most people can already out-strike you.
      Danaher is a legend, but even GSP had specific coaches for striking. I do agree GR is in a great gym to jump in to MMA, but he still has so so much to work on with striking and other things than Danaher won't be able to necessarily help him with.

    I have heard Danaher talk recently about BJJ being on the cusp of becoming a big spectator sport. I think that's pie in the sky.
    BJJ as a spectator event has only ever appealed to people in the BJJ community. And even at that, only a limited number of people in that community.
    The only way no-gi grappling would get to become a big deal is if they introduced say, a submission wrestling event at the Olympics as part of the Wrestling program. But there's no sign of that happening.
    99.999% of sports fans wouldn't watch Ryan vs Galvao if it was on their front lawn, let alone pay any sort of money to see it. There's nothing that's going to change that anytime soon. Danaher is a great coach, but BJJ becoming popular enough outside the BJJ community to become a professional sport is a pipedream.

TBH I think they all look up to John and John has said in interviews he doesn't want Gordo doing MMA as BJJ is going to become this big sport, and to be a big sport you need stars like Gordo etc... So, I think Gordo feels pressure not to let John down.
      I respect John but I really don't see BJJ becoming this househould sport in the next 5 years. The only people who are remotely interested in watching BJJ are the BJJ community. Now, in fairness that is a growing community but it's never going to be globally as big as say boxing or MMA.
      And even at that, I remember John Kavanagh talking on JRE and Kavanagh is a BJJ black belt under Matt Thornton. Both he and Joe agreed that they don't like watching BJJ comps because they find them "boring". And that's 2 well schooled black belts saying that.
      Danaher thinking average sport fans are going to be tuning in to watch elite level BJJ comps is unrealistic right now or even in the medium term. Especially coming out of a pandemic. Ask yourself right now, are most people going to hand over money to see Fury vs Joshua or N'Gannou vs Jones, or are they going to spend it paying to watch Ryan vs Galvao?
      BJJ is light years away from becoming anything other than a niche spectator sport.

      Yes. the days of one-trick ponies in MMA are over. Unless this guy plans on spending several years on stand-up martial arts, he's gonna get KO'd. He might be able to pull a Damien Maia (or Askren) and just continually try to take people down, but Maia's not a champion, and Maia has at least some take down skills. I looked for this guy gordon's bona fides in wrestling; i don't see any. I see him doing jiu jitsu with wrestlers, so his take-down skills for MMA might even be suspect.
