I love it, guys! Thank you so much for the video. I’m a huge headphone enthusiast, so it is nice to see a headphone amp making its way into your product line. Looks great!! And for the record I have a pair of those Svetlana 6AS7G tubes I bought from you parked inside my Woo Audio WA22. They are awesome power tubes.
After 40+years with SS and Tubes gear, I have some what settled with Decware Sarah 300B(USA) ordered, Sunvalley (Japan) Hashimoto Transformers, ELEKIT(Japan) Lundahl Transformers, Dennis Had Inspire KT (EL34's, KT's). Made in China a PrimaLuna DiaLogue Premium HP running KT-170's. SS using Luxman M-4000 and CL35 MKIII.😃
Verry interesting video a lot of You Tube information is normally repetitive or speculative or even too technical for me I.E. how to build equipment. I think of myself as having finished the necessary part expenditure on my sound system and so at the start of the fun part exploring the world of different valve (Tubes) types. The only component I still do not have is a Single ended valve amp. Sadly I discovered late in the day that single ended valve amps use a different range of valves to balanced amps (Specifically my Prima Luna Evo 100) but would love advice on a nice single ended amp that I would not need to wait 3 years for? You recommend always getting a balanced pair of Tubes (Valves). If I have a balanced Quad and one tube goes should I buy a matching pair to replace it? (Or even better avoided to reduce the odds that one 'balance' clashes with the original balance?). "Keep the speaker cable short" has given me an idear (Question for you?) . Having an integrated amp I recently bought some 2M speaker cable though I would have preferred only 1.5M on one of them. I have not yet upgraded my Subwoofer cables. If I buy the same cables again but in 1.5M with spade connectors this time I could mix both sets so everything going left goes 1.5M and everything gong right goes 2M ? Living in Europe being a customer of yours would be complicated for you and expensive for me but I am not yet in the high end Valve market because I ether buy them or I can afford to experiment with what having different clases of valves really meen for sound I will be buying my fist ever KT88's(Tongsol) next Monday frankly any advice regarding the families of valves I could try in my P.L. would be welcomed. thanks. PS I think you might be missing a trick, if you regularly have stock of valves you should buy a balance tester and start selling pairs balanced buy you. in doing that you are also adding another lair of quality assurance as any bad valves would show up.

@@cdbeen123 Good question! First we release the new Modern Line "Rocket" Preamp, that's happening in the next couple of weeks. Next we release the new Modern Line Universal 6or12SL7 Phono Preamp and then after a breather we'll probably finish up the OTL Headphone Kit Amp. We're still trying to decide if we'll stay with the Classic Line chassis (that's what you saw in today's video) or develop it in the Modern Line chassis. IMO the Classic Line chassis is better looking for the amp type, but it's a lot more expensive to manufacture. What do you think?
Ok... I hope your R8 was modded as that amp from the factory is horrible. Your 2nd setup that room has tons of reflections. The last room, although I can't see the left side, the right side has way too much clutter. I will continue to watch your channel as far as tubes however your setup advice needs help!!!
@@audiononsense1611 our R8 is a first generation build, and the only modification we've made is to replace the bias pots and install a fail safe resistor on the bias. Given that we use the amp commercially and have done so for almost 4 years now, I think that speaks volumes about the quality of the build. And it has always sounded amazing (with quality vintage tubes installed). Given your comment, it is clear you have never owned one. And even though we use our music room professionally, we also need to live in it. So when we shoot, other than a quick cleanup, that's the room as you would find it on a regular day. There's a misconception that a critical listening room needs to be completely devoid of clutter. In my experience a much more natural sound gets produced with stuff lying around. Now don't misunderstand what I'm saying, obviously a motorcycle parked in the middle is going to be a problem, but a few books, a puzzle, my recording decks and mixer aren't going to significantly change what we're hearing at the listening position. The entire focus of the video was to show some system layout options and some things to watch for, an example of this is our own system layout approach in which the low input or source signal progresses logically from one side of the system to the speakers. If you have a great system layout, please feel free to put a link to your TH-cam channel and the system layout video that you've made.
@@tubelab194 Nice response and you can keep on believing that nonsense however practicability in room response has everything to do with what we hear. One must have synergy even if its wrong (make it wrong on both sides with the same everything). There are few other basics one should follow however, I'll leave those comments where value is appreciated...
@audiononsense1611 any comments that include "you can keep on believing that nonesense" are completely inappropriate. If you disagree that's fine, just make your case, present your facts (as best as you understand them) and call it a day. So consider this your one (yup one) warning to be respectful on our channel.
@@tubelab194 Here's my proof- As an engineer (electronics, IT hardware, audio, and acoustics) I happen to be someone who would never consider the aforementioned amp, Ive heard several (3) in different setups (one being on my reference system) and it defiantly needs to be modded. Proof: th-cam.com/video/CxHIuNAk_Wg/w-d-xo.html Note: The Manufacture actually admits the amp needs improvements here....
@@audiononsense1611 with due respect what proof are you referring to? Skunky has done a whole series of mods and after the first round admitted that many of them were probably not necessary and wouldn't improve the sound. That hardly could be described as proof. The one improvement that we totally agree with is the installation of a bias resistor bypass to make the bias pot fail safe. Now to be clear, I'm not saying you couldn't improve the R8, but that could be said for every piece of audio gear ever manufactured. As built the R8 is a quality budget Class AB integrated tube amp that delivers good sound quality, responds well to rolling various tubes in, is well built, reliable and what is most important to buyers - it's affordable. It never pretended to be anything more. We've sold many Sets of vintage tubes to R8 owners over the years and other than complaints about how bad it sounded with stock or modern tubes, no one (zero) owners have ever complained about the actual amp. And if you read the reviews in our store you'll understand how much better the amp sounds with quality vintage tubes loaded.

The old Pioneer Spec systems..the Nakamichi One Rack are a couple of vintage rack systems I can remember.
