Thanks for the video! I'm one of those that started out with the Tamiya Hornet! Now decades later at 55, I'm back in the hobby full tilt with dozens of trucks & crawlers (including the reboot of the hornet!)
I wonder why the micro stuff is blowing up? It might be because the economy so people start to value cheaper RC cars better. I don’t know. I’ve never liked the micro stuff but I guess I’m glad to see other people enjoying the Hobby in that way. I wish one eighth scale buggy racing became bigger.
The micro explosion is 100 percent to save the companies money, we actually get much less for our money with the mini and micro stuff. Unfortunately, many have bought into the "low" cost of entry of the small models, so they will continue them, taking away valuable resources from design and engineering of the 1/10 stuff.
Groms, Kraton 6s, Rlaarlo killed it this year and so did Redcat. There were several from them that are better value than your list. To each their own though.
Yeah, my list starts off with a bunch of Redcats, especially taking Black Friday pricing into consideration: 1) Ascent Fusion ($320) 2) Ascent 18 ($95) 3) Ascent ($240) 4) Valkyrie ($240) Those deals were just bonkers. The Vigilante for $687 was a serious contender, too.
I like the honorable mention of the Hornet. I had the Grasshopper. The Losi micro B is so good that I'm getting back into buggy racing. I thought maybe the RC10B7 might make the list because it's just so good out of the kit. I'm looking forward to a great 2025 of new RC releases!!!
Hornet was my first hobby grade rc. I wish I still had it. But my favorite release this year is the Arrma V6 models. I'm planning on getting the V6 Kraton!
I think that’s a smart list Greg. It’s hard to argue with a #1 that draws lots of new people into the hobby. I’m also delighted to see the Maxx Slash on the list. Sooo many “reviewers” complained about it but they judged a hammer for not being able to cut leather. Your review was spot on and #4 on the list is high praise. I love mine and it’s my current favorite RC.
Yup, Actually Thought about a Top 20. I wanted to acknowledge a few more like the Kraton 6S and Optic. But I’ve been doing Top 10 for a long time. Stuck with it lol
Awesome video glad to see the redcat as the only basher to make it I'd have to put team corally in there as well that new kagama 4 is absolutely awesome fun and the new vortek ARRMA just dropped would also be on my top 5 for sure the groms are awesome even the LOSI nascar version mini are taking over this year leaving large scale in the dust
The number of rc's coming out these days that are north of 600 and need money spent on them straight away just to bring them up to the standard that they should have been out of the box is ridiculous. More and more I find myself spending my money elsewhere in other hobbies and getting more value out of it.
I actually really considered the Kraton 4S a lot and the 6S a little. But they were version updates. The H10 was a serious contender, but wound up going with FMS in the slot because that platform signified a notable expansion in their line-up with a highly detailed rig at a great price.
Every RC guy's top 10 list is subjective. This guy doesn't even have a Redcat in the list(ironically he used to work with Redcat doing voice over in some of Redcat's older model video). How much did Traxxas pay him for this top 10 video??hmmm. Amain Hobbies has the Redcat Ascent 18 as their no.1 RC release of 2024 and the Ascent Fusion somewhere in top 5.

I built my Tamiya Hornet with my Dad when I was 12. I am almost 50 now and just returned to the hobby this year. Just like you said.

The Maxx Slash on this list is a bit surprising. Mine is good now, but the suspension and handling was trash out of the box. For $700.
