  • You can buy these drums here www.bubbasbarre...
    This steam drum can generate heat for steam rooms, troughs, walk in coolers, or multiple drums. They can also be configured to run off natural gas or propane with a burner under it.

    Those are so sweet and easy. Just super expensive vs making your own. I first thought I'd need a small gang of those and that's pricey but bubbas makes some large drums also so might look at prices with those. Probably more than I'm ok spending at the moment and my homemade setup works great still. One day I'll get a couple nice xl barrels and pipe the steam from them to sheds.

      you dont need a large drum to pump out a lot of steam.

    How is the water being replaced in drum? Float valve placed 1/3 of the way up? Thanks

    Why such a small scale? I've seen small farms that use 500 gallon boilers.

      this 30 gal boiler is pumping 11KW of steam into a huge double door commercial proofer with 1400 lbs of blocks in it.

    Has anyone tried rigging this up with natural gas/propane? I've been working through an arduino book, trying to get handy with making my setup "smart". any ideas for solenoid control of gas flow, different feedback mechanisms? Any ideas for safety? I'd love to find myself with a safe, scalable, easy to set up propane/NG powered steam boiler for running my sterilizer drums.
    Any feedback mechanism between exaust temp of substrate barrel and the gas fuel supply for steam boiler?
    Any idea of how to regulate multiple substrate barrels off of a single steam boiler?
    I would ideally be able to run one boiler for several barrels, so I could disconnect one (or several) finished (sterile) substrate barrel, wheel it into the lab, connect a (severl) fresh (unsterile) substrate barrel(s) for tomorrow's batch.
    I like how this idea would be modular, scalable, doesn't require loads of expensive machinery, and generally off-the-shelf parts I can pick up at hardware store.

      Yes you could easily get one without the insulation and put a burner under it. From there controlling it you would need a pilot flame then control fuel with a solenoid valve. Check out homebrew forums. People do use controllers for gas. And if you wanted to control multiple drums I suppose you could run controllers for each drum with solenoid valves supplying steam as needed.

      Be sure to use made-for gas solenoid with pilot fault detection. Gas explosions are no fun

    This is exactly what I was trying to find for a walkin cooler i am converting over to steam bags . I will be calling Bubba's barrels

      Walk in coolers work great, I have a student that's using one for that purpose. Just make sure you have a floor drain for condensate.

      how do those panels hold up over time to steam though?

    Can you share info about the pump being used to drain?

    • @MyersMushroomsFarms
      @MyersMushroomsFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      His sink was up high. He purchased a simple 120v transfer pump to drain the unit end of cycle. If you have floor drains or can just run it outside the building you wouldn't need a pump just let it gravity drain.

    • @SethFriedmanOrigami

      got it. I may have installed the elbow inside the drum a few mm too high, so I'm just worried if it will syphon all the water out! :/ If not I'll consider a pump.

    just to be the nerd in the room... technically atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 14.7 psi :)

    • @MyersMushroomsFarms
      @MyersMushroomsFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but there is no pressure inside the vessel pushing out. Its boiling at atmospheric temps.14.7 psi would be 1 bar. this is 0 bar.

    • @stochastic24
      @stochastic24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When talking compressed gasses we are always talking about gauge pressure unless otherwise stated. When he says 0 PSI it's assumed he means 0 PSIG because obviously it's not a vacuum, and because relative pressure is what is relevant here.

    • @MyersMushroomsFarms
      @MyersMushroomsFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stochastic24 yes thanks relevant pressure, that's the word I should have used. And 0 psi at 200 ft elevation vs 0 psi at 5600 ft is two different temps. That's what really matters.
