I loved onyx storm I read it in 3 days n that ending I was like wah so I went reread chapter 50 n then went back n reread that last 100 pages n it made sense I gave this one 5 stars I loved it so much that ima do my reread of the book bc there were so many lil crumbs in each chapter that I need to go back n annote n underline
I really liked it and thought it was back to fun and fast pace after a dreary book 2. I liked the island quests it reminded me of Assassin’s Blade novellas. I’m satisfied with what we learned about Violet’s parents, but there’s still room for surprises with a full reveal later. Overall I’m happier with it than I thought I would be!
I feel exactly the same as you guys. I was wanting/expecting so much more from this book! I gave it 3 stars, and I feel like I’m being generous with that!
I haven't read any of them. But i love watching spoilers when it series with the same couple to make sure they dont turn around and kill one somewhere along the way, and they dont bring them back. 🌩 ⚡️
I’m so excited to see your thoughts on OS!!! Hey Miss. Tori!!! 💜💜💜 I’ve been trying to read it slowly & savor it. I’m tandem reading it with the audio and it’s soooooo good! I ordered my target at 12am pst!
I just finished it couple hours ago and I have to say - I loved it! It some feel more straight up fantasy then romantasy tho - fantasy is my primary genre so for me it was great but I get that it's not what a lot of people wanted. It definitely feels like a bridge but as someone who reads a lot of longer series - this is exactly what I expected 😅 I will continue with the series but if I were you, I would probably DNF after two books I didn't particularly like - too many books and series that would probably be more enjoyable for you!
Oh. 😢 I am so sorry you didn’t like it. Maybe it’s because it’s more high fantasy that the other ones ? I loved it ! I thought it was the best book of the series. I have so many theories.
I read high fantasy all the time! I just think it was a lot of going places with not a lot of discoveries or reveals…I just feel like the plot overall is being too stretched out and it could have easily been a three book series!
@ ok, that’s valid. I think it’s a bridge in the series. I loved all the character development, the found family aspect, the banter. I laughed so many times. The only flaw for me was Xaden attitude that I found odd at first, as well as their relationship (but I have a theory. Without spoiler, I think his behavior seems like Tairn’s with Sgaeyl). (Sorry for my english. It’s not my first langage)
Where is the idea that people who don’t read high fantasy aren’t liking this book? I took a break from reading Brandon Sanderson books and I didn’t like this one as it felt like it was a sitcom. Conflicts were resolved too quickly and not reflected upon to build the overall story plot.
I am rereading the whole fourth wing series this time I am doing it via the audiobook. I've been curious to see what's in onxy storm because people read it so fast.
I read the book in 3 days and finished the audiobook at work. I loved it more the Iron Flame. It’s more world building. I know some people like romance more than fantasy and others are more fantasy than romance and think this one was more fantasy than romance. As much as I love theories, I think that hurt some experiences because I’m seeing some of my friends are disappointed because they had so many cooler theories than what happened and they’re like “what I wanted/theorized didn’t happen.” I gave it 4 stars. Pacing was an issue for me at some parts but I loved expanding the world. Next book, I will go into with 0 theories and expectations and see if that helps or hinders the rest of the books for me. ⚡️
I couldn’t believe some Targets were selling the book prior to the release date; I really hope they are fined like crazy and that the publisher never works with Target again. Anyways I just finished the book and rushed here to watch this vlog! Onyx Storm was one of the best reading experiences of my life!!! Edit: oh… I wasn’t expecting you to not like the book 😢 it’s definitely one of my favourite books ever! There’s constantly interesting new information and developments throughout that really kept me on my toes, and soooooooo many Easter eggs!!
I just finished it & had very similar thoughts to yours. The romance was stagnant, the quest was boring & the end, part of it I predicted, part of it I wanted to see more happen & at the same time more was happening in the last 50 pages than the 450 before so it was a bit like getting off a rollercoaster when I finished it. I was disappointed 😢😢
I am so glad I'm not the only one not loving this book. I thought there was something wrong with me.😂 It's been boring me too, and taking me forever to get through cause I'm not super enjoying. I'm still only 40% through.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt this way! I was afraid I was the only one. I gave it 3 stars. The whole ending was so confusing and most of it was so boring and annoying. The reveal of her second signet was brushed aside so easily. This book just didn’t measure up to the hype for me. However I will try the next book to see if my theory on Ridoc comes true. I think it will which is sad. But if the next book is like this one I’ll be DNFing the series.
Thanks for your video. I finished the book this morning and watching your vlog showed the exact same journey I had with this book. I was so bored until about 40 percent and a bit less bored until about 85-90 percent. I really liked the last 10 percent although the ending felt like: Plotwise we are nearly at the exact same point as after Iron Flame. I already was not a fan of the romance in Iron Flame and felt it was even worse in Onyx Storm. For me the plot and emotional development of characters felt a lot of times inconsistent: They experience war and terrible things but a day later they sit in class as in highschool (The Professor Student Part also was so annoying and felt like: lets add another popular trope). In my view, the characters for the most part of the book did not really experience trauma, deep emotions or went through a development. They felt like highschool kids going on an adventure and sometimes (for me often at strange times) got horny. As Rebecca already wrote military romance I was dissapppointed that this part was so underdeveloped. And too me it was so obvious that the plot was drawn out as we now get five books instead of three. So much happened in Fourth Wing and Iron Flame and in this book I felt like 90 percent was just a filler. As we got some other POVs in the end I thought the book could have made another impact if we got these since the beginning. Some deaths would have made another impact if we had known them from other POVs. The deaths of characters reminded me a bit of the old star trek series in which there was often a random cadet taken on a team just to be killed on a new planet. Nobody cared as you never saw the character before or after. To add some positives that I liked: I loved the communication among and with the dragons and that there was no drama within the group due to keeping secrets. I also liked the plotline of Violets father although it was not a big part of the story. I am interested in reading the next books but unfortunately the hype is over for me. Best, Carmen

I haven’t watched this video yet, nor have I read the book yet, but I’m not surprised at the lukewarm responses considering how meh Iron Flame was.
I feel the same way

Meci is so much like my dog. We can’t keep anything where he can get it. 😂It was a bridge book, but I loved the ending! ⚡️

I’m 40% in and i’m thinking of dnfing, it’s been 4 days and I have to push myself to continue
Finally !! I’ve been waiting to hear from you and Tori on this one 🖤🖤🖤
“You’re like really in my light right now”😂⚡️⚡️

It’s one of my favourite books ever!!! I am so excited to delve into all the fan theories now!

Pacing could have used help but I did thoroughly enjoy it especially the last 30%. I couldn't give it anything less than 4.5. ⚡⚡⚡
I am rereading the whole fourth wing series this time I am doing it via the audiobook. I've been curious to see what's in onxy storm because people read it so fast.
Omg everyone is reading this so quick my goodness! Wish I did a reading vlog on it now 😂😂😂
I have the exact same thoughts about Onyx Storm. I’m not going to be continuing on with the series because I didn’t enjoy reading Iron Flame either

⚡️ I didn’t even pick this one up yet because book 2 was so boring for me. You are validating my decision 😅
This makes me happy I DNF'ed the series after hating Iron Flame - but I'm spoiling myself for the plot haha
Look at those babies 😊❤ cute dogs.
this made me feel very validated
⚡️⚡️⚡️
Completely agree! 😅
Listen to the fantasy girl podcast! They talk about the book and good deep into each chapters

I still need to read fourth wing 😅
Hey Jess are you going to post a review of this book 😊
I always love your videos I agree this book is pretty slow and boring I'm only on chapter 12 though maybe it will get better we will see
🌩️⚡

Tried to read the first book. But dnfed right away. I love Romance books and i love fantasy books. Just not combined.
Am I reading it? No. 😅 But I’m here for support and for the thoughts and the vlog lol ⚡️⚡️
I wholeheartedly agree with the lustiness of it, it was so annoying and cringe!
I’m not finished yet, but I’m so bored. I don’t even care if I’m spoiled at this point.
