- A plane made a bumpy landing at London's Heathrow airport on Wednesday, as Storm Gerrit caused heavy winds to batter parts of the UK.

I was brought up watching planes landing at Elmdon Airport Birmingham 🛫 ❤ Wicked . How excited does the cameraman get 😂😂😂 and the flight number correction 😂😂😂 What would the world be like without lovely people like this. Made my day🎉 I've also spotted at Heathrow in the 90s,mostly from cargo delivery points as was married to a trucker❤

Well you know planes still landed somewhat safely during storm Eunice, and there wasn't even a yellow warning of wind in place for London during storm gerrit

You should see some of the landings in bad weather at leeds/bradford airport! Usually crosswind with a relatively short runway! Makes this clip look normal

That's funny cause I've been on a plane with a bumpy landing just now 😭
To me, this is a sign that a pilot needs more practice at hand flying rather than always relying on the automation. This pilot was clearly out of sync with the momentum of the aircraft and caused a cascading series of divergent oscillations. I've landed (on this runway) in worse conditions than this without getting into a PIO. I have found that pilots who stay active in general aviation airplanes are far less likely to get into this situation in airliners.

That is likely what happens when you De-energize the aircraft too much on short final. The aircraft reduces lift but not symmetrically and one wing is affected first. Although not fatal the aircraft bounces around from wheel to wheel. Add power recover directional control and go around rather than risking gear collapse.

Surely a bit of an overreaction on the part of the camera man! Airline pilots are trained to deal with these kinds of conditions.

The pilots didn’t induce the left wing drop. I’m no expert in aerodynamics, but I think any normal person can tell that the drop in lift on the left wing is caused by the storm.
