- Footage of the 2014 fireworks display, recorded at Baltimore's Inner Harbor from the perspective of my Phantom Vision+ quadcopter.
Details: I was sitting on the deck, GPS-locked and ready to fly, waiting for the show to begin. Launch point was the parking lot behind the Domino Sugar plant off Key Highway. Weather conditions were excellent. Mid-70s, low humidity, 8 mph winds from WNW. The display began at 9:30pm. I lifted off when the first volley was fired, so this recording includes the entire 15-minute display sans the first salvo.
Early in the flight, I was forced to descend due to an approaching helicopter. It turned out the helicopter was flying a circular pattern over the crowd to my east of my location. Myself and three observers were scanning the skies throughout the event for air traffic.
The camera is DJI's proprietary unit included with the Phantom Vision+. It is mounted on DJI's 3-axis stabilized gimbal, hence the smooth video. The gimbal & camera are a single unit. Settings were 1080p*30fps, with camera controls set to full Auto.
That was great footage
Thanks Justin!
That video was spectacular......... what a great view of the fireworks.
Thanks babe! :)
Nice video, turned out really well

Star Spangled Spectacular
Waiting for the Drone Gestapo to show up and scold me on the dangers of flying over water...
Beautiful footage great view !
Thanks! Was a lot of fun too seeing things from this vantage point.
What drone are you using dude ?
This is an old video from July 4, 2014 that was recorded with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+. The Vision+ camera wasn't very good at capturing low light video.
Since then I have captured the Independence Day display with a Phantom 4, Mavic Pro, & a Mavic 2 Pro (2017, 2018, 2019). Baltimore had no display in 2020 & 2021 due to Covid. The 2022 display omitted the big barge & only had the small display right at Harborplace. Waiting for another full display.
Here is the 2018 Mavic Pro display - th-cam.com/video/LS_M_VU3dbc/w-d-xo.html
I was looking for some footage of the recent National Anthem celebration. For a second I thought that was your video but no matter, this was excellent. I also watched your Flytrex testing videos. You seem to get much better range than I do. Are your doing anything special to achieve that? Thank you for doing this video and for providing the details - I should do that more often. I have a Phantom 2 Vision and recently shot some footage of Fort McHenry and then went to Armistead Park to film the ships coming in on Wednesday (9/10/2014).

Your comment about the drone Gestapo is right on target. When I was filming Fort McHenry the Gestapo (park rangers) showed up, forced me to land my camera, and actually gave me a warning ticket.
Hi Greg. My bird is stock, though I do have a complete FPVLR Stage 4 antenna system, amps, spare controller, and spare Wi-Fi Extender ready to mod when I get around to it. I've just been rather lucky with my bird and it has always performed well. I was going to go downtown for the National Anthem festivities but too much activity to fly safely. The Blue Angels were buzzing around low & fast all week, and Obama & Biden were in town also.
