Some time ago, this design of a sweet corn picker was created to emulate more of a human harvester. It pushes down the ear so that it will snap and come off the stalk easier. Many large machines made for processing sweet corn modify a field corn header by installing an extra stripper plate to snap off the ear easier. The problem is, more damage to the butt of the ear can occur. That is not usually a problem because the corn is for processing. This machine is made for fresh market sweet corn sales. It is important to choose sweet corn varieties that mature uniformly and snap off easily for the harvester.

Everybody needs one of them. Man you are lucky to have access to it. They are so expensive even used for me to consider and local food hubs around here are little more than crooks living off of government grants

Very informative. I know nothing about growing or picking corn, but it seems odd that a sweet machine like this picks only a row at a time. Looking at vids of some other corn pickers, I guess one BIG advantage is that this picker does not damage the ears. At any rate, it seems well suited for your situation Adam in that it saves time and labor which must be a big help to you (and the price is right). I'd be curious to know whether the need to run the machine to pick the corn adds substantially to the cost of the crop.

definitely makes it easier to pick. question is how much more cost in equipment vs labor savings. also comment on how much corn it will allow to be picked

How much did the picker cost? I could see this easily paying for itself in one year.

In the US, what percentage of corn is handpicked and what percentage is harvested by a machine like this? Thanks....great video.

I liked it ok still had to sort the corn after the picking. We can pick faster by hand. I think they run around $60k new.
